any other Griff owners go through mast cell tumors?

One of our griffs (Male, age 7, neutered) had a mast cell tumor in February, got it removed and it was considered low grade, no need for chemo or radiation as it hadn't spread anywhere else. Fast forward to now, he just had two more removed in close proximity to where the first was and unfortunately they came back high grade, type 3.

To say we are devastated would be an understatement.

Our little guy has the most endearing personality out of every griff I've had... outgoing, snuggly, wants to be everyone's friend, loyal, and a joy to train. We are just beside ourselves.

If any other griff owners have gone through this, it would mean a lot to connect.

What to know before adopting

My husband and I are in the beginning stages of adopting a brussels griffon (just researching at this point). I am hoping to get some information from current and previous owners about what to expect and important things to know about this breed so that we can raise a happy healthy dog. Any feedback is welcome!

Flapping in the wind

Took Loki on my bike yesterday. Normally he just curls up but yesterday he was enjoying the scenery, complete with flappy ears.

Warm but comfy..

I couldn't help noticing Lili looked very comfy, despite it being a little warmer than usual today. I think it has something to do with the fan pointing at her butt...

Beard

Question for those who bring their Griffs in to groomers for hand stripping. My groomer always wants to take down my guy’s beard because “they can get stringy and/or dry and break off.” I wash, condition, and brush his beard at home routinely in between grooming, and have seen no sign of this. I have to ask her every single time I drop off to leave his beard alone as i want it to grow, and she frowns and tries to argue with me. I don’t like his beard stripped or scissored or whatever she does, I don’t think he looks like a Griff when it’s short and round.

She also tends to give him the chicken leg treatment, which I’m not a fan of. Again because his coat “could” start looking blown if she doesn’t. I guess i would like to see proof of these things happening before i worry about them and not sure why she wants to do additional work she’s being asked not to. Anyone have any thoughts about this or similar experiences?
