Hi everyone! This community has helped me in a lot of ways I can't put in words. Thought it's time I can pay it forward by guiding and resolving doubts of fellow other students.

A bit about me: I'm a Full Stack Developer, final year BTech CSE student, interning at a startup. This is my 6th internship in total. Attended hackathons since my 4th semester (won international too). Doing internships since 3rd semester. Contributed at Hacktoverfest for a US based open source tool. And for an AI startup backed by DropBox. Been learning and grinding since 1st sem.

Let me be honest, I've made a couple of mistakes along the way, wasn't interested much in DSA, never did that as much as I did Open Source / Side Projects. But grinded Leetcode in a couple of months and landed a 10LPA role as a Dev.

A first-year student at IIIT Ranchi has passed away, and what followed has exposed some serious problems with our college’s emergency response system.

A first-year student had been struggling with academic pressure after his first two mid-semester exams didn’t go well. His friends tried to reassure him that it was okay and that he still had time to recover. He also spoke to his mother on the phone for around an hour and a half.

Later that night, after the electricity went out, he was alone in his room. When his roommates went to check on him, they found the door locked from the inside. They had to break it open and found him in a critical condition. They immediately brought him down and tried to get help.

Students from across the building rushed to the scene. Everyone was panicking, trying to figure out what to do and how to get him medical assistance as quickly as possible.

What happened next was deeply disturbing.
The college ambulance had no driver available. Students repeatedly contacted the medical staff, but they kept being told that help was on the way. Eventually, a second-year student who knew how to drive had to take the ambulance and drive him to the hospital himself.

Unfortunately, the doctors declared that he could not be revived.
The incident was devastating enough, but the response from the college administration made the situation even worse.

For approximately an hour and a half, no faculty member or senior administrator came forward to address the students. Meanwhile, students were left standing there, trying to process what had happened and demanding some response from the people responsible for running the institution.
First-year students began protesting and raising slogans against the director. Students then marched toward the director’s residence, hoping to get some answers. The guards told them that the director was unavailable, and no one came out to address the gathering.

As I write this at around 2 AM, students are still protesting. 4 PCR vehicles along with tens of Police personnel are present, and the situation remains tense.
This is an institution that is supposed to uphold the standards of an Institute of National Importance. Yet, during an emergency, the ambulance had no driver available, students had to take responsibility for getting it moving, and the administration remained absent while students were demanding accountability.

The central issue here is not just the tragedy itself. It is the apparent lack of emergency preparedness and the administration’s failure to respond promptly to a campus crisis.

Students deserve a functioning emergency response system, accessible medical assistance, and an administration that shows up when its students need it most.

A family is going through an unimaginable loss tonight. Fellow students are traumatised by what they witnessed. This incident must not be brushed aside or forgotten once the protests end.
The students are still here, demanding accountability.
