GoDaddy keeps pushing its email upgrade. Is there any better option?

I bought my domain through GoDaddy, and it feels like every time I log in they're trying to get me to upgrade to their email service. Is there any real advantage to buying email from your domain registrar. I mean do I need to buy their email too, or is that just an optional add-on?

I only need a business email for my small business, so I'm wondering what most people do.

I got tired of paying per mailbox, so I built this

I have a bunch of side projects and domains, and I kept running into the same problem: every new project meant another email subscription, usually priced per mailbox.

So I built HQBase - a fully open-source email workspace that deploys into your own Cloudflare account.

HQBase itself is free. You just need Cloudflare Workers Paid at $5/month - not $5 per user or mailbox.

You get:

  • Multiple domains and email addresses
  • Send + receive email
  • Multiple users with granular access
  • PWA with push notifications
  • MCP server
  • 2–3 minute setup
  • AGPL-3.0 open source

I also just really like what Cloudflare has built. Workers, Email Routing, Email Sending, D1 and R2 together make it possible to run something like this entirely inside your own account. 🧡

I built HQBase for myself, then decided to open source it.

Would love feedback from other people juggling multiple side projects/domains.

Built a chrome extension that tracks email opens in Gmail AND Outlook

My office uses Outlook and I use Gmail for my personal email and I couldn't find a tool for tracking email opens that supports both, so I created one myself. It shows how many times, at what time, and from where your emails have been opened. It was just added to the chrome store a couple of days ago, here's the link if you want to give it a try: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/email-read-receipts/poepadmppppnmhicggadoiohpoiehnli

Happy to answer any questions.

Roomie update - developer email, wiki, and customer support, all built from Nepal

Hey r/technepal 🙏

Another update from us at Roomie — the all-in-one team workspace we've been building here in Nepal. This community has been part of the journey from early on, so I wanted to share where we've reached.

A milestone we're genuinely proud of

  • We've crossed 2,000 users on the platform
  • Our system is now delivering 4,000+ emails a week

For a team that started this year, seeing real usage at this scale has been surreal. Thank you to everyone here who tried it and gave us honest feedback along the way.

What's shipped recently

📧 Email for developers — API + SMTP with monitoring built in. The same account also does marketing emails and campaigns, so transactional and marketing email live under one roof. (Those Roomie marketing emails some of you have been getting? Sent from Roomie itself.)

📚 Wiki (our take on Confluence) — real-time collaborative docs with multiple editors, shareable public links, email sharing, and team invites per space. The best part: your wiki lives inside your AI context, so it's genuinely useful for API docs, in-app knowledge bases, and sharing documentation inside or outside your org.
How it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYbPBvEdPCE

🎧 Customer support widget — plug it into your website or webapp and support conversations flow straight into Roomie's ticketing and project management. It's already live for us — we run Roomie's own customer support on Roomie.
How it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2VvRCXLyk0

Honestly, that's the theme of the last few months: we run Roomie on Roomie. Our support, our marketing emails, our internal work — all of it goes through the product. Even our website was built inside Roomie, though that part isn't released yet.

What's next

🚀 Agent that builds — we're adding the ability for our AI chat to create websites and apps that deploy directly from Roomie. It's how we built our own site, and we're targeting a public release next month.

🏷️ Roomie tags — think Claude-style tagging: mention the agent from any chat channel to hand it a task. Actively in research right now.

Give it a try at roomie.work — free for up to 3 users. If you run into any issues or have questions, just DM me directly and I'll help you out 🙏

What's the best cheap email hosting for someone without a domain?

I freelance and I want to setup up a professional email for client work. I'm looking for a provider that can also provide a domain and help me get started without it costing too much.

As per my requirements:

- Reliability is my main concern.

- I need my emails to reach clients consistently without spam or downtime issues.

What email service shall I use that would stay reliable over time?

Why do emails randomly go yo spam?

My friend uses Gmail with a custom domain for work and mostly send regular 1:1 emails to clients. He had already taken care of the usual email setup steps and most of their emails are just proposals, follow ups, or normal client conversations.

Still every now and then, the emails landed in the spam folder. Could it be the domain reputation issue or is Gmail just stricter with spam filtering lately?

I'm missing out on important emails in Gmail. Any tips?

I get a fair number of inquiries through my website, but they all land in the same Gmail inbox as everything else.
After a busy day, it's really easy for a contact form email to get lost among client emails, newsletters, and random notifications. I recently realized I replied to someone much later than I should have, and now I'm worried I might have missed others too.
I just want to know how do you make sure important website emails don't get overlooked? Do you have any Gmail tips or workflows that have worked for you?

Is there a clean way to move years if Gmail conversations to a business email?

My sister has been running her solo business from her personal Gmail for the last few years and her inbox is a total mess. She's thinking of getting a business email now but she's worried about all those old client conversations.

Did you folks move everything. Over or did you just keep your old Gmail around and start fresh?

Trying to figure out what the least painful option is.

Is Yahoo Mail down?

Pretty much as the title says. My sister is not able to access her 4 years of emails and we cannot reach to Yahoo Support team too. We've tried all the fixes but nothing's helping.

Anyone who could help?

She needs to access some important files but couldn't!

Suggestions for Outlook (Web) Organization

I receive several hundred emails per day, and my inbox is already full of emails that need to be responded to, deleted, moved, or otherwise archived. I cannot get to everyone of the emails each day. Are there any tools that help organize my inbox, AI or otherwise? I use Outlook online at outlook.com.
