Looking for opinions on these apartments

Hi everyone,

I’m 23F coming to Michigan for work in Dearborn and i’m trying to finalize where i want to live. Safety is my biggest priority, but i’d also love an area that feels nice for a young professional, has cafes/restaurants nearby, isn’t too isolated.

I’ve narrowed my search down to apartments in these areas:

- Plymouth

  1. Plymouth Heritage
  2. Starkweather Lofts
  3. Z on Plymouth
  4. Plymouth Collection
  5. Hines Park Place Apartments

- Novi

  1. Saddle Creek Apartments
  2. Edge at Novi
  3. Rover Oaks West

- Ferndale

  1. FerndaleHaus Lofts
  2. on Nine
  3. Vested Heights apartments

- Canton

  1. Springs at Canton
  2. Pilgrim Village
  3. Village of Canton Apartments
  4. Heather Ridge Apartments
  5. Fordham Green
  6. Turnbury Park

I’d really appreciate any feedback from people who have lined in or toured these places.

Which ones would you recommend?
Is there any I should absolutely avoid?
Any issues with management, maintenance, safety, bugs, theft?
Are there any other apartment communities in these areas that I should add to my list?

Thank you so much! Coming to a new state is a little overwhelming, so i’d really appreciate any local insight!

Moving to Canton – Looking for Safe 2BR Apartment Recommendations

Hi everyone!
I recently got a job near Southfield,MI, and my friend and I are planning to move to the Canton area considering we can commuted. We’re looking for a 2-bedroom apartment with 1,1.5, or 2 bathrooms (we’re flexible on the number of bathrooms). Our biggest requirement is an in-unit washer and dryer.
We’re two girls, so we’re also looking for a safe, quiet, and well-maintained community. We’d really appreciate recommendations for apartment complexes you’ve had good experiences with—or any places we should avoid.
Our move-in is coming up soon, so any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! 😊

Transit millage on summer ballot: Explainer for those in western/downriver suburbs

All Wayne County voters will soon be able to vote on a public transit proposal.

This includes voters in 16 western and downriver suburbs that currently have no general bus service because they "opt out" of the regional SMART transit system, as well as voters in Detroit who have DDOT service paid for through the city budget.

I wrote an explainer about the proposal for the Plymouth Express, a print and online newspaper published by the Plymouth District library and written by volunteers for residents of the city and township of Plymouh. I spoke to people with multiple perspectives on the issue.

It's at https://open.substack.com/pub/plymouthlibrary/p/voters-to-decide-if-public-transportation and I hope it's useful to folks in other "opt out" communities too.

After I turned in the story, the folks at SMART launched a site with an interactive map showing the potential new and expanded bus routes that could be created if the proposal passes on a county-wide level. It's at https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/dac5b62b449b4399aacf423c18df7d47

I have posted a brief video showing what the routes look like for northwest Wayne County: https://youtube.com/shorts/W6xqU6IUxyY?feature=share

Go see a tree in Plymouth that's older than America

The Miller Woods Nature Preserve, on Powell Road between Beck and Ridge Roads, is marking the nation's 250th birthday by inviting everyone to come see a sugar maple tree that's even older than the nation!

It was dated at more than 300 years old through a core sample by a U-M team several years ago. If you want to see it, park alongside the road and go straight when you enter the woods (no dogs, bikes or strollers please). The tree is just past the second bench. Please stay on the trail and help preserve the tree and all the woods for generations to come!

It's cooler and shady in the woods, though you may want to put some bug spray on before you go.

Follow Miller Woods Plymouth MI on Facebook or MillerWoodsMI on Instagram. You can join the email list, donate to support invasive species removal and trail upkeep, or become a member of the nonprofit Friends of Miller Woods at https://www.millerwoods.com

Supporting the proposed Palmer/Sheldon roundabout

I made a site in support of the proposed Palmer/Sheldon roundabout: https://keepcantonmoving.com/

For some reason roundabouts can be a weirdly heated topic, but I believe the conversation about this project would benefit from more clear, fact-based information. Road construction is frustrating, but the bigger question is whether the final design makes the intersection safer for pedestrians and keeps traffic moving better long-term

Please take a look, share it with neighbors, and show up to the open house on August 13 if you can!

Trash Pick-up Missed by PriorityWaste

Our trash is supposed to be picked up on every Friday, but priority waste didn't come today. The recycle trash was picked up but not the regular trash. Since it's the holiday tomorrow, does anyone know when they are going to pick up the trash? It's getting super hot outside and the trash is attracting bugs. Thanks very much!

What was it?

I passed what appeared to be a light turquoise
Canton Police car with a retro style police insignia. Is this a 70s flashback? Anyone else see this apparition?

Inviting all children who stutter to volunteer in a paid University of Michigan MRI Study!

The Speech Neurophysiology Lab at the University of Michigan is looking for children who stutter ages 9 to 12 to participate in an in-person, longitudinal MRI study! (HUM00196133)

Our research team has been examining brain development in young children to better understand the cause of stuttering for over 10 years. We continue to gain information that may eventually lead to improved diagnosis and treatment efforts for children who stutter.

Participants will be invited to complete speech and language assessments and an MRI session at the University of Michigan. Families receive a free speech and language report and a picture of their brain!

These visits require in person participation. There is no option to participate virtually.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in participating or email us as the flyer attached. All participants are compensated and partial travel assistance is available. Please see our flyer attached for more details!

We also offer other studies that are open to adults or do not involve MRI, in case you're unsure about eligibility. Feel free to email us or call if you have any questions!

Dutch Bros in Canton?

Curious what everyone thinks about Dutch Bros coming to the area, they are the original drive thru drink stand that 7 Brew was actually based on as the creator of 7 Brew used to work at Dutch Bros. Right now they're currently expanding in the midwest with the closest locations being near the border in Indiana and Ohio. Eventually they want to be in Michigan and I think Canton would be a good starting point!

LIberty Fest

What did everyone think of Liberty Fest this year?

Heard complaints

Not open as late - only 8:30
Ride areas fenced off
Tickets too expensive
Fireworks moved to July

We only did the run this year which had an issue with the timing bibs not recording which for $52 entry fee was disappointing.
