Shifted into first instead of third

I’m obviously a learner driver and i think i just messed up the car. Was driving and was trying to go 2nd to 3rd and i think i went into first instead ( not 100% sure but what else could it be) , the car pretty much stopped as if i jammed on the brakes, the car still feels fine to drive but theres a very noticeable whining noise now when driving. Cant really hear the wine in first, barely in second and it gets louder the faster the car is. It’s also louder when accelerating but when foot is on the clutch the noise stops so is the gearbox badly damaged?

Suspected water in gas tank?

I drive a 98 grand cherokee limited with a v8 engine, ~20 gallon tank and recently it has been turning off while im driving it. It's fine when im going over 20 mph, but as soon as I slow down or stop it'll turn off. All that will be on when it does this are the radio and lights, steering and acceleration go out completely. Everyone is telling me I've got water in my gas tank, which is very likely due to the people I got it from leaving it for years with half a tank. Would this be something I could easily/cheaply fix? Is this what happens with water in the tank? I've put a red heet bottle in last time i got gas, but that hasn't done anything yet.

High pitch noise from wheel

I recently went to a mechanic about this noise coming from my car. They said that my CV axle boot was torn, and that grease was leaking onto the wheel, which seems to cause noise like this. After fixing it, mechanic said there’s still gonna be some noise from the leftover grease but that it should be gone after 2-3 good “brakes”. I’m still hearing the noise even after I did what he said, and I’m thinking it could be a bent dust shield that’s hitting the brake. What do you guys think?

Car Vertical incorrect damage report

My partners selling his car but the would-be buyer came back saying there was a damage report on CV showing £40k damage for engine replacement in Feb. This is incorrect info, he owned the car at the time, had for a while at the point and knows the car had no work done at all, you don’t just “forget” putting in a new engine..but they won’t listen or do anything about it.
He’s run a load of reports from DVLA to independents, which all came back showing this damage/cost never happened, he’s got the data from the cars tracker showing it was never at a garage during the time period, the company who manage the tracker have even offered to write a letter confirming the data is complete! But CV’s only response? “We have no reason to belive our information is incorrect” it’s mental.

Anyone else had this experience?

Starter not working after 1 hr drive.

So I woke up started the car like normal and drove about an hour today going to work. When I got to the office with plenty of time to spare, I decided to rest a bit. It was particularly hot today so I decided to start the engine and turn on the A/C. The starter just produced a whirring sound and there was no engagement from the engine. Is the reason why the starter just produced a whirring sound because the starter and engine are still hot?

cost estimate to fix front bumper?

mazda cx-30, tldr tried to parallel park in a spot and bumped the curb on my way up cause there was a patch of uneven bricks. I tried to pop it back into place but I don’t want to force anything and make it worse. I was gonna go tomorrow to get it repaired but wanted an idea of how much it might cost, i’m not sure if the entire bumper needs to be replaced or if it’s more minor than that, thanks in advance

Any theories as to why my wipers are doing this?

2015 Subaru Forester 2.5 Premium. Not sure if it’s something wrong with the sprayers, tubing, or something else. Just wanted some advice before I started buying parts and getting my hands dirty.

Sensors on New Wheels Not Working Properly

Hello. I went to a tire shop recently to buy new wheels. I drive an Acura RDX 2023. After I started driving with my new wheels, my tire pressure sensors were not able to read my tire pressure on any of the tires. I went back to the shop to reset the TPMS and that didn’t work. Then, they asked me to go back and they reset them again. The problem came up again. When I called, they asked me to bring in my old wheels so that they can scan the IDs on the older sensors on the stock wheels and clone them to the new sensors. Not sure how that works. After driving for 20-30 minutes since then, the TPMS is still not working. As you can imagine, I am very frustrated. I called the tire shop today and they said to come back in when I can but I’m not really sure what they’re going to do differently this time. I don’t think the shop is using OEM sensors so I’m thinking the sensors are low quality. What is the best thing to do now? How are they going to fix it? Am I better off calling the dealership and see if they can do something? I appreciate any help you can provide. Thank you!

2003 Honda pilot randomly dies even after an engine replacement

My Honda pilot will be driving along just fine and then will suddenly die with no warning. No check engine light. It doesn’t lose power to the lights or anything like that. It’s just the engine (and power steering) that dies. I changed the battery and alternator anyway. I also changed the fuel pump, spark plugs and ignition coils and then when it kept happening I took it to a mechanic and the piston rings were bad so they replaced the engine. I really thought that was going to fix it but it has died twice since getting it back about a week ago. I’m completely stumped and I would love some advice if anyone has any ideas!

2005 Mercedes Benz c240 making a Knocking/rattling noise.

Any ideas what this is, just did an oil change 10 miles ago sounded great after the change. And about 8 miles in it started sounding like this. Used 5w 40 oil maybe I should have used 0w-40? Sounds like it’s coming from the engine

Is it wise to change the gasket myself? or should i hand it over to a mechanic

This is a 2012 Hyundai elantra diesel 1.6 CRDi engine . The previous owner seemed to abuse the vehicle. I got the car for dirt cheap money 8 months ago. I love repairing the car myself ( had done steering rack repairs , strut replacements etc.. for this car by myself) but i never touched an engine ever.

From my limited experience, it seems like the valve cover gasket is failing and the car drips oil ( about 2 drops per day after driving the car). Is this something i can work on? I've read it's difficult to pull the injectors and it can be time consuming and high risk depending on the tools we have. consider myself an average joe.

Are these hyundai diesel engines more forgiving if i just let it run and refill the oil when necessary? i'd love to hear from an actual mechanic or an expert who does engine work.

let me know if it's something i can do or should i hand over the keys to a mechanic

What does this mean?

2015 chevy malibu. Typically has a check engine light on, and was told not to worry about it. Every once in awhile these two warnings will pop up. They go away after shutting off and starting the car. Usually happens after I get home, if I sit in here for awhile. I usually shut the car off right away because I assumed it was bc I had been idling too long. This time it popped up soon after I turned on the car. Had been sitting maybe a few minutes.

In the past the car had a parasitic battery issue (the stop/start battery was draining the main battery is how it was explained), unsure if that’s relevant history.

Edit: let me clear this up a bit. This will only show up incidentally and will not be there after stopping and starting the car. These warnings will show up, and upon turning the car on again none will be there and only the check engine light will be on. It has gone months in between these warnings coming up. The check engine light is NOT on when these warnings come up.

I’m just trying to understand why it’s only incidentally. it doesn’t make sense to me why these wouldn’t show up more.

Whirring sound coming from engine bay. Diagnostic help please. 1.9 tdi ASV 110 (vp110)

Whenever the car runs, there is a constant whirring noise. Its 92k mileage and had a cambelt done in 2019 (30k miles since). The car runs completely fine.

Update: I checked and ive done 430 miles since i bought this car 23rd april last month. I listened closer and I originally thought it was the CCV, the noise seems to be from the timing section, im thinking the very top, specifically the timing belt deflection pulley. The noise was more pronounced when i take the belt cover off, but the belt looks clean and healthy. This noise has been around since i first got the car (it happens when the car is warmed up) i checked a video of the same noise and source and it was 26th april after a spirited drive.

It could also be a vacuum leak.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Rattling noise, 26’ SE

Turn the volume up, the noise comes from the driver side B pillar. Is this something I can fix or is it a dealership visit? It’s driving me crazy.
