New to the game, been loving it. But every time i make a new character it makes me curious, what's with the default profession sorting order? Is it just based on when they were added to the game, because it doesnt make any sense any way i can think of it being organized. They're not in any reccommended order, which you would think with survivor at the top, but i cant imagine playing as "shower victim" or "naked and afraid" is a good idea for newer players. But it's not the worst options first. Its not alphabetized, or based on groups of related professions together. How does it organize them by default?
I've been playing for a while on a decently length save (around 2-3 seasons) on the experimental and I've recently ran into an issue where I've been getting really bad slowdowns and hangups on certain things. The most egregious and game breaking one being the crafting menu taking absolutely FOREVER to do anything. It opens fine for the most part, but swapping categories will cause a freeze for a good minute depending on how many recipes there is or scrolling through the items will be super slow with some recipes freezing as well. If I even go onto the nested category I get locked into a permanent freeze that forces me to quit the game. Cleaning out my base a bit certainly helped a bit but even bare naked in a field far away in newly generated terrain with nothing the crafting menu still has quite a bit of lag and freezes.
Now this is probably my fault since I made the stupid decision of updating my nightly build (I just wanted more walk-away recipes) mid-save which I'm sure is probably what caused it. The only error I get thought is a bunch of book missing item definitions on world load but I don't 100% think is the issue? From the looks of it and going through github's changelog, they're only morale books but I wouldn't be surprised if they were messing with the crafting menu somehow.
Is there something I could do to fix this or am I just screwed?
While continuing my mission of culling a town of zombies head-on, I meet an Npc whom I never encounter, or maybe I just killed before and he gave me an escort mission to burn down a Restaurant in a nearby village. When we got there, he just charged at the evolved zeds past my squad with his weak ass melee build with no armour because I can't control him even thou he is following me! I barely keep him alive to burn down stupid building and immediately he charged a zombie survivor and since his next mission was to beat up Food Person for no Reason I just let him die cause he was just a maniac anyway and his motivation is just petty evil anyway since I'm role-paying a morally good characther for once. He sounded rude as well.
Hello! Long time survivor here. The Lab changes were not great (I learned to live with them), but the Fungi situation is completely out of hand. So I made two minimal mods to fix it:
just open your cdda/save/{world}/mods.json world where you want to add the mods and add the coresponding lines:
"restore_fungal_fire_spread"
and/or
"disable_fungal_blossom_haze"
(remember to add a comma to the end of the previous last mod, like "magiclysm", in screenshot)
Then, open your cdda/mods/ folder and drop in these mod folders:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YczKfhh528axZEnvQdkIfihmiTZan6i-/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/17OCtk2n8QptX_U8N4_QvYCUV8BPQoyFp/view?usp=sharing
Restore fungal fire spread basically reverts PR 87197: https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/issues/87197 so fire can once again spread on Fungal Beds and a few other fungal terrains.
Disable fungal blossom haze entirely disables Fungal Blossom's FUNGAL_HAZE, so fungi can only spread via shamblers and zombies. (the central Big Blossom can still spread in a small radius)
Not perfect, but can literaly save your world from (early) annihilation.
Stay safe.
found this guy, my man even said he worked in a hospital as a medic, but int 4? Nah, he buyed that diploma and medical license
Probably has already been discussed to hell (sorry I’m new to following the actual development process) but what do CDDA players think about a squad system.
Think early original R6 style toggleable display defaulted at the top of the screen that shows your squad members, their limb health, weapons they’re wearing etc.
Then a tactics and formation submenu.
From what I can tell there’s already been a lot of work done on implementing the ability to switch characters on-the-fly.
Maybe change “S” from save and quit to Squad Tactics which can include less general behavior, classic XCOM type of stuff like suppressive fire or overwatch.
I’m curious what players think of such a system and creative ways that it could be implemented, with CDDA’s characteristic realism in mind.
After a week, my char is still at half strength (4) and unable to even wear full armor due to carrying capacity being reduced to 64 lb. And unlike a real cold, the condition seems to be all or nothing, with no gradual progression or alleviation of symptoms. There's also no treatment; cough syrup only stops the coughing. Shouldn't there at least be some way to temporarily restore your stats? Annoying the player seems to be the only purpose for this game mechanic. What's next, cancer?
Edit: I stand corrected, cough syrup does undo the debuffs except maybe 1 point of strength.
did you guys know that if you wear a lanyard and put zone badges there and wear it the drones in TCL dont alert the bot dispatch I just recently knew about it (also extra combat mk3 exo)
two questions:
how do I fix this?
is there any way for me to change the UI back to the old, comfy and soulful one?
I tried the helicopter crash start a few times, most of them was a small island with few animals, trees etc. What do I do? Once I tried swimming, but had to leave behind every single item, and luckily made it to the shore alive and survived a few days after that. Is there any way to train swimming so I can leave with some items? Is there any way to make a boat? I don't understand the vehicle system, but tried once and needed tons of leveling and manuals and tools and items that are impossible to get on the island. Help!
I’ve been extremely weary for three days and have been eating and sleeping only but it still isn’t going away, do I just need to use debug. I’m on the latest stable version
my guys, maybe that's the end of Dave Daveson
after looting some things in the lab, i ran right in front of a horde and i fell in the sewers, if i can escape, i will post today this bizarre adventure.
(if i die, i will too, but as a tribute)
How long have you been playing and traveling on your own without knowing that fast travel existed?
I must have been playing for months before I found out about this feature.
Hey everyone, if it's hard to read, forgive me, I'm using a translator. The problem is, does anyone know the name of the tool that performs fine distillation? I found a lot of tools that perform distillation, but none specifically for fine distillation. And without them, you can't craft mutagenic primers.
I'm back, maybe with a new update about my run later.
After escaping a bandit attack, i found this, tried opening to no use.
i'm just curious, i found this "Lab Acess Shaft", should i stay away from this place or it's a good place to loot?
There's a way to open this? I mean, i have a pack of dynamite, but don't wanna risk wasting it if i can just smash this or do in a way that will not alert all monsters in the area.
I found a entrance to a LMOE Shelter too, i looked inside and was a pretty comfy place, but is in a crowded city, it's a good base?
My actual base is a house that i fortified and got energy working, but it's in the middle of a little city.
Tried raw potato but nothing happens, I also searched for potato seed but nothing shows in crafting menu.
