Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

How long does Chalmers take to give a final PhD decision?

Hey guys. I was the first candidate interviewed for a PhD position at Chalmers 3 months ago, and the feedback was really positive. Since then, it’s been total silence. Does anyone know what the normal processing time usually is after the interviews, and how long it typically takes to hear back? Any insights would be great. Thanks!

Basår och Industriell ekonomi

Kan man komma in på Industriell ekonomi genom basåret garantiplats? Betyget kommer nog vara en gnutta under kravet på Industriell ekonomi även efter basåret, och HP känns som en stor chansning att lägga allt på. När jag kollar på sidorna så är inte Industriell ekonomi med i listan av garantiplatser, är det något nytt? Känns som att den var med förr lol.

Finns det ändå någon form av förtur?

Prospective International Student: Questions about Data Science & AI / Engineering Mathematics (Exams, Difficulty, and Career Opportunities)

Hey everyone!

I’m a 2nd-year Computer Engineering undergraduate student from Italy, and I’m currently looking ahead at my options for a Master’s degree in 2027. Chalmers is right at the top of my list.

I am highly interested in two specific programmes: Data Science and AI and Engineering Mathematics and Computational Science.

Since I want to get a realistic view of what life at Chalmers is like, I wanted to ask the community a few questions:

  1. How are exams usually structured? In Italy, we have a lot of heavy theoretical oral and written exams at the end of the semester. How does it work at Chalmers? Is it more project-based, continuous assessment, or classic big exams?
  2. How difficult/competitive is it to get into these two courses? For international applicants coming from a European engineering background, what does the selection usually look for the most (GPA, specific courses, motivation)?
  3. What are the actual industry opportunities for each track? I know Gothenburg has an amazing tech and automotive ecosystem. Do students from both these tracks find it easy to secure master's thesis projects or internships with them? Does one track have a significant edge over the other in the local job market?
  4. Are there hackathons or pitch-up events? I love getting hands-on and building things. Does the university, the student union, or the local ecosystem actively organize hackathons, pitch events, or similar competitions where students can showcase their skills and connect with startups?

Would love to hear from anyone currently enrolled in these programmes or recent alumni. Thanks a lot for your help!

Hej! Jag försöker förstå hur mastervalet för Chalmersstudenter fungerar.

Min rangordning är:

  1. Data Science and AI
  2. Computer Systems and Cybersecurity
  3. High-Performance Computer Systems

Jag läser Datateknik. Cyber och HPC är masterprogram där Datateknik har förtur/platsgaranti enligt Chalmers dokument. Cyber är platsbegränsat, HPC verkar vara platsobegränsat. AI är platsbegränsat och ackrediterat för Datateknik, men utan förtur/platsgaranti.

På antagning.se står AI som “behörig”. Cyber står som “struken” med motiveringen att jag kommer antas till ett högre prioriterat alternativ. HPC står fortfarande som “behörig”.

Min tolkning är att Cyber bara kan ha strukits eftersom systemet bedömer att jag kommer in på AI, eftersom AI är det enda alternativet ovanför Cyber. Men jag blir osäker eftersom HPC fortfarande står kvar som behörig.

Är det någon som har varit med om samma sak eller vet hur Chalmers lokala masterval hanteras i antagning.se?
