Chao Figures
I sculpted these three little chaos out of model magic. 💞
Chao inspired creature raising game I’ve been working on. Having lots of fun with it!
I've been having a lot of fun working on this chao inspired side project in Godot recently and wanted to share.
I spent a decent amount of time getting the creatures (to be named) to look cute enough and to give them some basic AI to wander around the tropical heavenly island.
Adding random tripping has been my favorite feature so far lol
Still very barebones, want to eventually have a decently polished vertical slice to build on top of.
How do I get a shiny normal chao?
Hello everyone.
Trying to breed for a shiny normal (two tone) Chao. I've tried several times with breeding a normal two tone chao and a shiny yellow chao, but all I seem to get is another shiny yellow chao.
Is it possible with a different combination, or are there other factors I need to consider?
(Picture is from the Chao Island 3D Chao Viewer, if it wasn't obvious)
Thanks in advance.
From Perfect Chaos to this ... ?
Perfect Chaos would not be too proud... would he?
Thanks for the love on the screenshots a couple weeks ago! Here's some super early gameplay of my Chao-like
This is where we're at after 3 months of work, very janky in areas, assets are prototype/placeholder in several locations, and some animations need a lot of work, but slowly it's getting there!
Last time I showed some screenshots we got to like 140 upvotes which I certainly wasn't expecting, so thank you! This time, here's a minute of gameplay clips trying to show off various elements to the game, such as feeding and increasing stats, playing fetch/ with a ball, races, octoball/ soccer minigame, clothing items, parkour missions, underwater sections, and exploration.
This will be my last post for the month of August as I want to respect the subreddit and not spam updates in here, so if you'd like more updates feel free to find us elsewhere. The name of the game is Inkwell Cove, and typing that into google alone should bring up a few places you can watch more videos and see more images!
Also, I've noted previous feedback such as evolutions and breeding, along with facial expressions for the Octo's (pets). I was also thinking maybe they need to make noises? Like how Chao would do their cute little baby voice when interating with things, being petted, etc.
Thanks for checking this out, happy to discuss in the comments and listen to feedback! Keep in mind this is early and the goal isn't to polish right now, it's to get basic systems in place and ensure a fun game exists, even if janky haha!
Two years into a Chao Garden-inspired game. What do you think?
I've been working on Zephyr Cloud solo for the past two years. Same core idea as the Chao Garden: you raise and train creatures, evolve them into new forms, and breed new generations. And races, of course. On top of that it's a settlement sim, and the personality side owes a lot to RimWorld.
Most of my time has gone into the zephyrs themselves. Their traits actually shape thair behavior: one panics in the rain, one steals food from the storage, one is always stalks the others. Sometimes that's all the same zephyr. They play together, chat, get into fights, and you're the one who ends up breaking those up. They form relationships with you as well.
The garden is spread across floating islands. They drift, new ones show up, and you go explore them, gather resources, settle in and craft your way up.
The zephyrs aren't just living there, they work with you. Some jobs only they can do, and some work better together.
Which brings me to what I'd like to ask. First: how do you feel about chao-like creatures having actual work to do? Does that break the relaxed atmosphere everyone loved the Chao Garden for?
The other thing is the camera. it's top-down and free moving like the Sims, with no player model on screen. Thoughts on that? Did seeing your own character next to chao matter to you?
Any thoughts or questions are welcome. It's called Zephyr Cloud if you want to take a look.
Chao garden-like game dev
So I see there are a few game devs here making chao garden-like games.
I plan to make my own one - working on an engine for it currently and trying to scope out the features/concepts/niches for the game - I already have a lot of ideas (some are a bit more unique) but they need consolidating into something final still.
What I know for sure is that I want a simulator/evolution system/chao style gameplay for the core. How that expands to a more fully featured game is still being considered - thinking of mixing it with maybe adventure/exploration/rpg/palworld kinda vibes so there's something else to do other than just pet raising.
The main problem is that I'm a developer, not a 3d modeller / animator / artist etc.
Is there anyone here who would be down for working on a project like this? Probably one or two people at most - someone who is good with 3d assets and someone who is good with audio and sfx.
Probably better posting on r/INAT but I thought I'd rather ask the likeminded chao community first.
What would a Chao-inspired game need for you to stay interested?
As I posted a few days ago in this sub, I am working on a game and it's coming along beautifully. I am just curious though, as to what you guys would be looking for in a game like this to keep you interested for the long run? Here are the current features. (For prototyping they are called 'homies' for now)
The homies:
- Homies are born from an egg and are given a random color and pattern at birth.
- They have moods and expressions - You can make them cry by taking their toy from them, or tossing them, or you can pet them and make them happy. They have excitement, neutral, angry, sad, crying, frustrated, sleeping and more on the way.
- They have full autonomy - They will sleep, eat, play with toys and train their skills on their own, even when you're away, so you can stop playing and come back to check on them.
- They are going to have options to interact with the player for increased experience rates with training.
- They can level up primary stats - Stamina, Strength, Speed, Intelligence.
- As well as sub-skills - Climbing, running, puzzles, swimming, etc.
- They are able to transform to a stat focused look, if they have a strong stat. I would like to have mixes eventually too, but that will depend on the support I get for the game, and what kind of pricing I can work out with an artist.
- If they don't have a stat that is particularly strong they will keep the base head and body.
- Those stats can be used in minigames, like karate, foot races, climbing races, rubiks cube races, etc.
- You can breed homies.
- It is impossible to max out a first generation homie - they must inherit strengths from a parent.
- You will have to go through several generations over many months to get a maxed out homie.
- Everything is tracked in a journal - from birth, to accomplishments, to special events.
- There is a shop and inventory system - You can put accessories on your homies.
- They must be fed, petted and played with to be kept happy. Happiness will bring up special events that you wouldn't have seen otherwise, and makes them actually love you.
- They can accumulate favorite things - spots to hang out, best friends, favorite toys, etc.
- WIP: Currently building a system to make them interactable - Pet them, pick them up, etc. with your cursor or finger
The garden:
- A top down experience, mostly a plain flat grass garden.
- The shop has decorations - trees, beds, rocks, toys, fences, shrubbery, etc. for decorating your garden to make it your own.
- Each garden, starting with the first allows up to 12 homies.
- There are 3 expansion slots, you can choose what goes there - a beach, another grass garden, more coming on that.
The minigames:
- You can use your stats in minigames/competitions.
- You compete against randomly generated homies.
- Garden tokens are earned through wins, used for spending in the shop.
- Foot race - Speed, Run from point A to point B before the opponents.
- Atlas stone - Strength, lift all of the atlas stones on to their platforms before the opponent.
- Rubiks cube - Intelligence, sit down and solve a Rubiks cube before the opponents.
- Climbing - Strength/Climbing, climb the wall and hit the button before the opponent.
- More on the way.
What this game will never have:
- Any purchasable micro-transaction currency that can progress you past others.
- Ads.
Can't get Chao Editor vmi file onto vmu save
Trying to put the VMU Chao Editor onto my .vmu save file using Vmuexplorer, but when I try to import the EDITOR.VMI file it gives me the error shown in the above image. I've tried uploading the vmi when I had chao adventure on the same vmu save, when I didn't (as shown in image), and onto a fresh VMU file with no other saves attached, but the message remained the same. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
How many emblems do you need to get a Shiny Pink Chao Egg? (SADX Steam)
I can only find info for SA2 emblem requirements for Chao eggs, but since there are fewer emblems in SADX I assume the requirements are different. I have 113 emblems and it still hasn't appeared in the black market yet. The yellow/pink/purple set of Chao eggs is my second set on this save file. Do I need more emblems or do I just need to keep checking back?
I found a secret of my old save file
I was looking through my photo library and got to August 2024 and I found images of a chao that wasn’t in my present day save file
This is Bubbles: the chao that wasn’t carried over to my present day save file
I’m hoping on restoring him and expanding him to be a better version of him
