I have moved back to Chennai, after spending several years in Hyderabad and Bangalore. Honestly, this city still feels miserable in terms of queer dating scenes. Here's what I noticed across several popular apps like Tinder, Hinge, and Grindr, in spite of opting their premium memberships.

1. When you are someone who is strong on specific political ideologies, the dating pool moves from being low to terribly low. I mean, as a queer person, I could never date a fascist or someone who is a conservative right-winger. If you are someone who votes for hate, and supports oppression of others, I could never associate with you on a personal level. It is already sickening to deal with such people in professional spaces.
2. Mos of these dating/hkup apps are filled with married men and incels, honestly, it feels exhausting after a point. Out of every 3 profiles, 1 ends up being a commercial (fancy term for the P-word), and the other two are discreet/DL married men, straight incels in search of married women/cucks/trans/fem gays and any living-breathing creature that is closer to a woman. It just feels so repulsive coming across these profiles. Even after using several filters, you do end up engaging with these people somehow.
3. Most of these bisexual men are legit. But several of them are either married or closeted gays. Unless your spouse/partner is fully aware and has consented to an open marriage/open relationship arrangement, your actions amount to nothing but adultery and cheating. I do get your constraints and reasons, but honestly, expecting everyone to be okay with your morally reprehensible choices is a bit too much.
4. Most people have standard questions, after a point you feel like you are taking a survey or chatting with a chatbot. Everything feels mechanical in the talking stage. Is there a dearth of intellectually intriguing people or conversationalists in this city? Mind you that taking stage actually happens after the filter based on looks and descriptions. There are extremely low chances that you would even find someone sensible to grab a coffee or go on a date with, after all these steps.

Just wanted to share my thoughts out here. Does anyone else feel the same way?
