Hi Chicago! I'm moving here from Seattle, and I'd like to get a feel for the music scene while I wait out my lease.

Is there a certain genre that sort of dominates the scene? Here in Seattle it seems like all I can find for bandmates want to play either punk, indie, or metal. Is Chicago like that at all you'd say? (I play prog/psychedelic stuff)

Also this subreddit doesn't seem as active as Seattle's music sub, I'm sure Chicago has way more musicians than Seattle does, so where can I find them?

So I’ve been recording music and writing books for the last 8 years of my life. I don’t know who to give it to or who to show it to but I’ve been super invested in finding the right people because echo chambers usually don’t produce good results.

The books:

A three part book series about a horror romance concept (I’m not giving this away unless people are genuinely interested) it’s steamy, it’s emotionally exhausting, and it’s terrifying.

Hey everyone! Hopefully tomorrow is supposed to be pretty nice, and I was thinking of celebrating the federal holiday with a little jam session in the park? I play banjo and harmonica and am looking to join up with other people for a little no-stakes public jam. I play mostly blues and country but will play anything and can adapt quick. Im seeing Louis Tomlinson tomorrow with GA pit tickets and I really want to try for barricade. I've been to Allstate plenty of times but only with seated tickets so I feel like dont know what I'm doing here and what the venue policies are with queuing. If you've been queued here before Id love anyyyyy tips for that, like where lines usually start, where to park and all of that.

This will be a free show (no cover charge) to promote the REAL "Earth Day" which was originally intended to be on the 1st day of Spring (in the Northern Hemisphere) since it's an astronomical event that transcends all national, political and religious boundaries to remind participants that we are all in this together when it comes to the ecosystem.

The Spring Equinox actually happens at the EXACT SAME MOMENT WORLD-WIDE, not like New Year's Eve, which occurs ever hour. So, it truly joins the entire planet in recognition that the ecosystem is more important than so many other interests that occupy our news and political organizations' attention.

I'm talking to a popular local music venue about the date, but this coming year (2027), the Spring Equinox it's a Saturday, so if I can get some commitments from a good number of bands, we can have an awesome all-day affair! I plan to personally provide a a lot of promotion and free picnic-style food (barbecue, potato salad, etc.)! So, it should be a big, fun event!
