Chrome, no matter what I do, will not save changes to my shortcuts.

I can't delete them, rename them, or add new ones because as soon as I re-open the browser my changes are reverted. I've tried clearing cache and cookies and turning sync on and off. Nothing works. Please help if possible, I'm tired of seeing these useless shortcuts I added to my account when I was 10 taking up space.

Is there a reliable tab manager that matches Toby’s organizational hierarchy without the enterprise price tag or broken single-window modes?

I really like the way the Toby tab management system works, but because they charge per organization, it is completely cost-prohibitive for my workflow.

To break down why Toby's structure is so good, it uses a 5-level hierarchy:

  • Organization (Highest level)
  • Space
  • Collection (Holds Chrome tab groups)
  • Chrome Tab Groups
  • Tabs (Individual web pages)

The only thing I've found that remotely competes with this layout is Tabox. You can map Tabox's structure to match a similar multi-tiered setup:

  • Chrome Profile = Synonymous with a Toby Organization
  • Tabox Folder = Synonymous with a Toby Space
  • Tabox Collection = Synonymous with a Toby Collection
  • Chrome Tab Groups = Holds the individual tabs

The Problem: The advertised features of Tabox for operating in single-window mode (meaning where it simply replaces or opens tabs cleanly in your current workspace without spawning chaotic duplicate windows) are very broken. It simply doesn't work reliably.

My Question: Are there any alternatives or workarounds that keep all of these levels of abstraction (Profiles/Folders/Collections/Groups/Tabs) and actually function properly without enterprise pricing? I would really appreciate any suggestions!

How to put chrome layout back to normal?

So how do I fix this? I didn't agree to this change and I think i might genuinely crash out about it. I know it seems small but its annoying and weird and i dont like it. Every time I try to look up how to fix this the google ai (ew) has a panic attack and tries to genuinely kill itself and when i tried to find out without the ai it did that stupid "im sorry you're search isn't registering!" Or whatever the stupid automated response is. Basically as you can see chrome moved some shit around (the bar on the bottom used to be integrated into the top bar....but now its not.....for no fucking reason 😒) ad is can't figure out how to fix it because chrome/google and its stupid ai overlord try to kill themselves anytime I attempt to figure out what the fuck is going on.

Google docs stuck on loading

The website loads but it gets stuck on loading my previous docs. I have plenty of free drive storage left (more than 10gigs), wifi is perfectly fine with around 200mbs download and 150mbs upload. Works fine on other devices.

I've tried restarting my computer and cleared cache & cookies from the last 24hrs but still no luck. Anyone experiencing/experienced a similar issue?

Update: turns out it is an outage affecting mainly AU and NZ servers due to an outage with Mastercard the previous weekend. So hopefully it can be fixed quickly as I have an exam to revise for and all of my notes are on docs

Cannot find working instructions to remove Gemini

I have Chrome on my Android, and it just inserted a Gemini button at the bottom of every page. I'd like at least the button gone, and ideally, all Gemini integration entirely, but every guide I can find is apparently outdated. Can anyone recommend a working way to get this off my phone browser, or do I need to uninstall Chrome and use a different browser?

Search engine keeps switching to Yahoo

Hello! for a couple months now, my search engine keeps switching from Google Chrome to Yahoo. I have no idea why it is. When I looked it up, it said it could be a virus but this is an extremely new computer I only use for work and grad school. Any advice on next step to troubleshoot the issue? I've deleted the yahoo search engine option a couple times, but it keeps coming back.

Redesigned extension panel under flags

MS Edge had this for a long time now coming to Chrome. I think it’s a rather useful feature for quickly disabling extensions from pop-ups.

Chrome slow on brand new W11 PC

I have a brand new HP laptop on W11 Pro. A mobile workstation (HP ZBook Power - 13th Gen Intel CoreT i7-13800H with plenty of RAM), I use it for graphic design when i'm on the road. Installed all basic software (Office, Antivirus, etc.) without problem. Also moved all my data from old pc, no issues.

Chrome just doesn't work. I log into my Google account, everything sync'd. I can use a few websites as they should, but as soon as I open Facebook or Youtube or X, I'm guessing any website that needs to load a lot of media, it just stops working. Pages crash, chrome just completely freezes. Can't even right-click or close the tabs anymore. Reinstalled Chrome and tried without logging in Google account, but same result. Issue seems to be mainly with Facebook, which is a pain as we use it for work advertising..

Sometimes when I do a fresh boot, I can get Facebook to work for a couple of minutes, but when I open some more tabs like youtube or my work scheduler, Facebook/Youtube just stop working. Youtube will keep a video playing, but clicking anywhere in that window just freezes it.

I'm an average PC user, absolutely not tech savvy, but have Googled this issue several times, tried a lot of things already. But keep coming back to the same issue.

Steps taken:

  • Disable Extensions
  • Disabled Graphic acceleration setting
  • Put laptop to Best Performance setting
  • Turned off Energy Saver in Chrome
  • Reset all settings
  • Disabled all web-related settings on my Norton AND completely turned off everything on Norton
  • Disable the energy efficiency mode in Task Manager (but it automatically turns back on anyway..)

I just don't know what else I can try. I know there are other browsers and other laptop brands, but this brand new PC should be able to run this at least as good as the 12yr old fossil it's replacing, when currently Chrome works perfect on that old lady..

Does anyone have any idea? I would be forever grateful to whoever can help fix this issue. Thanks in advance !

It looks like the latest update has re-enabled these two buttons.

And it looks like "omnibox overlay" (the flags to disable them) have been completely removed. Is it still possible to remove them?

Google My Activity search bar completely broken (Zero results when typing anything, laptop & mobile) - Backend indexing issue?

Hey everyone,

I am experiencing a bizarre issue with my Google My Activity page that I cannot seem to fix. I’ve gone through every standard and advanced troubleshooting step imaginable, and it’s still completely broken.

The Symptom:
My activity timeline updates perfectly fine. I can see my recent searches and history listed out in chronological order. However, the moment I type anything at all into the My Activity search bar, it immediately returns absolutely zero results. It fails even when I type a single letter with absolutely no search filters applied.

The Critical Detail:
This happens on both my laptop and my mobile device. Because it is cross-device, it doesn’t seem to be a local browser or hardware glitch.

Everything I have already tried (with no resolution):

  • Verified Web & App Activity is fully turned ON in my Google account settings.
  • Checked and confirmed "Show personal results" / "Search Personalization" is explicitly enabled in my Google Search Preferences.
  • Disabled all browser extensions (ad blockers, privacy tools, etc.).
  • Cleared browser cache, cookies, and local data.
  • Toggled "Make searching and browsing better" / Autocomplete settings off and on to force a sync.
  • Toggled Hardware / Graphics Acceleration on and off in my browser settings.
  • Attempted the "Last Resort" server re-index trick by manually deleting a recent item directly from my timeline to see if it would force the database to refresh.
  • Submitted a formal bug report via "Help & Feedback" to Google.

Since it fails across multiple devices and networks, it really feels like an account-level database indexing error on Google’s backend servers where my personal data isn't being queried correctly when a text filter is applied.

Is anyone else experiencing this right now, or has anyone successfully dealt with this kind of backend freeze before? How long does it usually take to clear up?
