Citibank American Airlines Barclay transition a poorly thought out mess.

My Barclays American Airlines card is being moved to Citi because AA says so. Citi notified all of my online accounts that they should start using my new Citi account number before they actually gave me the whole number. Now Apple App store wants me to confirm the complete number, expiration and security code and I have none of these because Citi didn't send me my new card yet. Calling them was no help, as it seems that the representatives don't speak english well enough to understand that I'm now locked out of the App store until they send me the new card (no I can't just use the old number because when they Apple tries to submit a charge against it, Citi will just tell them to change it to their number again, and I will still be locked out).

I would never have intentionally done business directly with Citi, but AA didn't ask my opinion before they made the switch.

CIti planned this process to be convenient for themselves and didn't care about or consider the impact to customers at all.

If you've been negatively impacted by this transition, call 1800-950-5114 (citi customer service) and voice your displeasure...over and over again if you have the time.

Laid off and need help on next steps who to reach to

Hi All,

I was laid off today from Citibank NY office and was provided with WARN notice with mid august date as effective termination date. Does the benefits and payroll continue as usual until that date? Anyone who has gone through this process can please confirm?

Additionally, I am on H-1B visa does the sixty day clock start post effective termination date?

Any help is appreciated.

I was given no information or contact on who to reach out regarding next steps. Who do we need to reach out if we have some query? Except WARN notice I have nothing.

⚠️ PSA: Citigold charges exorbitant (>8%) hidden FX markup on international ATM withdrawals — “no fees” doesn’t mean free

If you’re a Citigold customer traveling internationally, you’ve probably heard that ATM withdrawal fees are waived. That’s true — but it doesn’t mean you’re getting a free transaction.

Citi applies their own exchange rate, which can be significantly worse than the mid-market rate.

Here’s a real example from Thailand today:
• Google / mid-market rate: THB 32.75 / USD
• Citigold rate: THB 30.1205 / USD
• Effective markup: ~8.03%

That means on a $500 USD withdrawal, you’re losing the equivalent of ~$40 USD purely to the exchange rate spread — before any other fees.

Bottom line: “No ATM fees” ≠ “no cost.” Always check the exchange rate your bank is applying, not just whether the flat fee is waived. An 8% FX spread will cost you far more than a $5 ATM fee ever would.

Hope this saves someone some money.

Now I’m curious about the current rates offered by Charles Schwab.

Overworked and Underpaid

I've worked at Citi as a universal banker for about 10 months now. Our branch is one of the busiest in our area, we see lots of daily traffic. We had 4 UBs on the teller line when I first started, and at this point we are down to only two. Our Head UB was let go without finding a replacement, and because of that, they transferred the vault and all of her responsibilities onto me. Shortly after that, one of the part-time UBs quit, and just one week after that, our manager quit lol. I have been holding the vault for about 3 months now and working on average 43+ hours a week. There is absolutely no work/life balance here. I am tired, stressed, and I see no light at the end of the tunnel. Would they be able to give me a raise with all this extra work I've been doing? Or should I just quit as well and find a new job altogether? I don't mean for this to sound like I'm complaining but I'm extremely tired and need some help on what to do.

Citi AA Advantage card not great for business expense use

I'm in search of suggestions for a good rewards card to use for business expenses. We used to LOVE our barclays AA Advantage card, but Citi took it over and their arbitrary policies do not work well with our company. We make many hundreds of purchases and multiple payments throughout the month. Citi has weird rules about freezing your card after big payments, regardless of how much credit is available. Our business cannot function like that. Any suggestions for a good reward card that works well with a fast-paced business? Citi is not it. We're going to miss Barclays!!!!!

Citi Strata Premier - got the 60k point bonus. But I don't travel. Don't want to redeem for 0.75c/point. How would you use the points if you don't travel?

a) What are some ideas I probably haven't thought of? Some expenses that I probably have that I could use this on and get 1 cent/point?

Can I still easily get 1 cent per point value by some method I haven't thought of? I don't really travel

b) What if I don't use my 60k points and then I downgrade to the Citi Custom Cash next year- then will those points still be 0.75 cents/point cashback redeemable or would they be 1 cent / point cashback redeemable?

Quickly lost me as a customer

Citi recently took over for Barclays on the AAdvantage Aviator mastercards. I was mostly unaware this was happening (but got an email on May 5 from American Airlines indicating as much).

Yesterday, May 13, I got a snail mail statement from Citi, showing my card activity, and letting me know I owed over $100 in interest, because my auto-pay got dropped during the move. I immediately paid the bill, and set up auto-pay (i don't even have a physical Citi card yet btw).

I got in touch with Citi customer service, assuming the interest charge could be refunded, because I obviously did not intend to skip payment, nor was i given sufficient notice that I was in any danger of missing a payment deadline- this was just an administrative headache created for me by Citi's unwanted and unrequested takeover of my account. I've had full autopay set up since 2019, and never missed a payment.

Their response, you guessed it: "sorry, there's nothing we can do." So I closed my account. Citi prefers to lose decades of easy money, far in excess of the fee waiver i was requesting, from me and my wife than act like a reputable business. Embarrassing.

Citi bank credit limit decrease??

Hey guys , I’m going through a really tough time right now. My youngest brother recently passed away and I’ve never missed a payment one time on my Citi Bank account but yesterday I got an email saying that my credit limit was decreased by $2500 and I’m beyond upset because I’m already going through enough right now. Why would they do something like this? I am very upset

How can I contact the bank about a lost deposit?

I’m a US citizen living abroad and hold a dollar account at Citibank’s US operation.

I had to take an RMD from my 401(k) and Vanguard, the account administrator, sent me a paper check despite my request that the RMD amount be direct-deposited with Citibank. So I mailed the check, marked deposit-only, to Citibank. The check cleared in April, but the amount does not show in my balance. A Citibank agent told me there’s no record of the check being received.

I have a copy of the check which shows that Citibank accepted it. However, the bank says there is no way for me to send that copy electronically and that I must do it by mail. The mail does not move fast between here and the USA, so sending the copy and waiting for a reply will add several weeks to an already long process.

Does anyone know a more efficient way to contact the bank and send the copy of the cleared check?

Thanks for listening, and maye advising.

How to get credit card statements for an account that was closed and sent to the collection agency?

Since the morning, I have been trying to get all my credit card statements for my account that was sent to a collection agency. I called Citi they said they don’t have them, the collection agency does. The collection agency which I paid 2 years ago say they only have the last 12 (which is what Citi Bank sent them). Are my credit card statements lost now ? Anyone knows how to get them?

How do you tell new potential jobs you were laid off?

I was laid off from Citi in March, I was on a non-working notice until May 8th.
Before May 8th I was telling potential recruiters and interviewers that I was still with Citi. It wasn’t entirely untrue. Now that the period is over and I’m officially termed I have no idea how to answer the question
“Are you still with Citi?” And on job applications do you uncheck the box for current job?
I’m just terrified to tell them yes I was laid off due to organizational changes and restructuring. I feel like it will hurt me even more trying to find a job in this market.

CITI APPLICATION PH

Has anyone here experienced a long “Recruiting Review” status at Citibank?

I applied last April 18 and already completed the two questionnaires they sent, but until now I haven’t received any updates. My application status is still “Recruiting Review.”

I already have other job offers lined up, but I’m really interested in the role at Citi, so I was hoping to wait for their update before making a decision.

Just wanted to ask if this is normal and how long the process usually takes. Thanks!

What is the deal with things showing as "posted" then they get "returned" and their "security"!!!!

This has been KILLING my account. Things keep showing "posted" and then get "returned for insufficient funds". How is this legal?! How is it even legal to show pending at this point when everything is electronic? Computers get weekends off too?

They say I have overdraft protection but somehow keep getting over drafted.

They say my account is secure yet I had to call about 30 times for facebook hacking my account for facebook ads in which I never once made. I called to block facebook and have them block me or whatever and nothing they kept charging. Hundreds of hundreds of dollars but they don't return all of them so essentially I'm paying someones facebook ads for free?!?!?!?

Recently I bought bus tickets online, took the buses, and days after the trip it shows "returned for insufficient funds". HOW?!?!?!?!

new american citi card nonsense

I've been an American airlines platinum member for over 25 years. Citibank just recently took over these cards. HOWEVER, the transition is a disaster. The transfer "officially" happened last week. However, they are'nt mailing the cards for 6-8 weeks. And the website adn customer services assured everyone that until the physical card was received AND activated customers could continue to use their old numbers. Well guess what? They are lying. I use this card for ALL of my recurring payments (subscriptions, memberships, etc). In the last 3 days, 5 of my services have declined payment because lo and behold--the old card isn't still working. But crappy citibank won't be mailing the cards for 6-8 wks. I spent hour trying to get it straightened out but they jsut keep saying "the old card should still work". But it doesn't. So until i get a new card (possibly 2 months from now!) i will have a big headache. Not to mention all the miles i will be losing becasue i can't use the american airlines card.
