I’ve always liked city pop and one day found timely in a second hand shop here on island(Okinawa) for super cheap earlier this year. After I got it, I decided to get a record player and now I’m just along for the ride. This is what I’ve found with recommendations I’ve seen you all post and some just on vibes. So far I’ve been lucky to find most of these for $20 or less. It been really fun record hunting and just overall listing to records.

I came to an event held at Toyama Station, Japan, and look what I found—original ’80s pressings from Anri, Tatsuro, Meiko, and many others but I was absolutely shocked by the price of that Junko album, I’m lucky to get meiko’s moods album

I never expected city pop to become one of my favorite genres, but here we are.

Big Wave, Pocket Music, For You, Ride on Time, Love Songs, University Street... it's been a fun rabbit hole.

What should I keep an eye out for next?

Kanako Wada’s third album from 1987 had been on my wantlist for a long time, and I even managed to get the original CD, thinking that vinyl is just too expensive and rare. But today I got the package with the "Kana" record in NM condition, and it's not the reissue! It was reasonably priced because it lacked an insert, but I'm still really happy. The most well-known track on the album is “SUNDAY BRUNCH”, but my personal favorite is “誕生日はマイナス1”—that intro is just amazing. And “C.クローデルの罪” is extremely underrated.

I've started a new series called VON Select Air Recording, where I share some of my favorite air recordings using vintage audio equipment.

What artists or songs would you recommend?

I know this may be a strange post, but my collector's OCD loves to complete a collection. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Toshiki Kadomatsu rereleased his whole catalog in 1986 to coincide with his newly released album "Touch and Go". During the rerelease campaign, each album and 12-inch single had a matching green and white obi strip. Some albums, such as On the City Shore and After 5 Clash never had obis to begin with, so the only way to get a version with an obi was to get the green obi rerelease. Because I am a citypop vinyl collector, it has been my mission to collect all of the green obi variants for all of his releases. However, some of them are extremely rare, so it has been no small task. The reason I am posting about this is to ask you all if you have (or have seen) Toshiki's single Hatsu Koi with a green obi. I could not find a single photo or sold listing for a green obi variant for Hatsu Koi anywhere. I'm not explicity asking for anyone to sell me their copy (but I wouldn't say no), I just want some proof that it exists. Thanks.
