Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

We throw away 200+ lbs of clean rubber every week. I'll mail it to you for the cost of shi

Every week, my small rubber stamp factory in Minnesota sends hundreds of pounds of clean, high-quality natural rubber to the landfill. It kills me. This is the stuff trimmed off the edges of our stamps. It's soft, natural red rubber, no dirt, no contamination.

I've posted before and gotten tons of great suggestions. I've reached out to every single one. Mulch recyclers, playground surfacing, crafters, art teachers, makerspaces, you name it. Nobody wants it. Most would rather grind up dirty old tires than take clean rubber from a stamp shop. I can't make it make sense.

It's free. You just pay shipping, which works out to about $1/lb. I'll ship as much as you want. Use it for crafts, gaskets, packing material, garden mulch, art projects, whatever. I just want it to go somewhere besides a landfill.

If this resonates with you, please crosspost it to any subreddit you think might want this. Crafters, gardeners, makers, sustainability, hobbies, anything. That's the real ask.

Pay at Lexington Medical?

Hey y’all! I’m moving from the upstate to Columbia towards the end of this summer, and I’m trying to get an idea of what pay is like at the various medical groups in the area. For context/reference, I’m a medical receptionist with about 10 years of experience. If you or anyone you know works as a medical receptionist (“patient access representative”, “business office associate”, etc.) PLEASE leave a reply with about how much you make (if you feel comfortable, ofc). (Even if you work at a different facility like Prisma or MUSC!)

Thanks in advance!

Hospice Suggestions

I would love to hear hospice stories for people with dementia/Alzheimer’s. Might be changing agencies. I'll take your bad stories too - let me know where not to go.

Boys trip on Lake Murray - looking for boating, hiking, and food recs!

Small group staying on Lake Murray for 4 days the last weekend in May. We want to make the most of the lake and check out Columbia while we're in town.

We aren't super picky, but we’d love some local insight on a few things:

  • Boating: We'll have a pontoon - best spots to check out or tie up to?
  • Hiking/Outdoors: Good trails nearby with solid views? We're down for anything from a scenic walk to a decent hike.
  • Food/Drinks: Looking for both waterfront spots we can pull up to by boat and great lunch/dinner/bar spots in Columbia or northwest of Columbia.

Appreciate any recommendations or hidden gems we should check out that you're willing to share. Thanks in advance!

house market

whyyyyyyy are houses so darn expensive because it's Columbia? I am baffled by the prices in this area. All the houses in Rosewood have 0 updates to it since like the 1800s, usually 1 bathroom, not in the best area and are like $280+. This is ridiculous what i'm seeing!!

Looking for Black hair stylist/salon recommendations?

Hello, I'm looking for hair stylists and/or salons that specialize in Black hair. I'm specifically looking for ones that provide the hair for braided and twisted styles, includes shampooing and drying in the price, no deposits before the appointment, and doesn't discriminate against kinky/coily hair types. Basically, no crazy rules.

I already go to Steel City Barber and Beauty Shop. I just need another stylist in case they're not available.

On this day in 1996, Beck Weathers was left for dead on Everest. His team even called his wife to say he had died. But hours later, frostbitten and barely alive, he stunned everyone by walking back into camp.

Harden St Chick-fil-A

The fall off of this location needs to be studied…. It used to be incredibly solid. Now everyone has horrible manners and I’ve genuinely waited 20 minutes for my food several times.

Who’s your favorite Columbinfluencer?

Title. I’m working on a project to better connect local influencers and content creators with local businesses. Right now, I’m trying to get a better idea of the content that’s being created but would eventually love to get some feedback as well.

Who are your favorite local voices on social media?

Found money at Lexington Goodwill

I found a significant amount of money in an item I purchased from the Lexington Goodwill. Based on the situation it seems like someone (or their parent or partner) accidentally donated their stash.

If you can message me telling me what it was in and how much it was I’ll meet you at a police station and get it back to you.

Personal Loan

Hi, I’m looking for a private lender who offers short-term cash loans here in Columbia, SC? I have poor credit because of previous hardships so I'm struggling on getting a loan but I’m employed now in a school district and can provide proof of income. Thank you.
