Did you suddenly have allergy symptoms recently?
I'm curious if the rest of Concord has recently, in the last 2 days or so, suffered from strong allergy symptoms? I think I've been nursing a headache and stuffy nose since this weekend. No other symptoms.
Favorite Mom & Pop Food Spots?
Hey everyone!! What are some of your favorite local mom and pop restaurants in the area? My sister and I are looking for some hidden gems in the area to support beyond just the typical chains
Best GROCERY STORE Cake?
Any recommendations for a grocery store birthday cake? Looking for stores that offer WHIPPED CREAM as the frosting option.
Updating this fantasy map of California and would love any new suggestions about what to include!
Apologies if you've seen this elsewhere - this is the most current version with lots of suggestions from other redditors.
I'm making a map of California in a classic fantasy style (sorta Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones). It's going to be filled with real world history and mythology, with the aim of highlighting local landmarks in a fun and educational way. Please ignore how rough parts of it look (text going through hills, rivers, etc), it'll all get cleaned up at the end. Forests will be going on at the end too.
While it's around two thirds done, I'd love to get more places and features in here before I get this made into print. Any more petroglyphs, burial mounds, ruins, forts, battlefields, Civil War heritage, ghost towns or the like that you think should be on here? Anything else is great too - landmarks, natural features, mythological creatures or just anything cool and quirky you think would look good on here. Thanks!
Fishing at Newhall
I planned to go fishing at Newhall Park today, but when I pulled up the water looked drained and was maybe an inch deep. Looks like they did some construction around the edges and I assume all the fish have died.
Does anyone know what’s going on there?
Anyone up with too much energy wanna chat?
I can't sleep, want to talk with someone.
What is up with Cambridge Park?
My family & I just moved to Concord from elsewhere in the East Bay. We have young kids & the closest park to us is Cambridge Park off of Monument. We’ve only been during the later afternoon on weekdays so far, but whenever we go it’s either a ghost town with absolutely no one there, or there’s the occasional person sleeping on a bench. I don’t want to judge a book by its cover & assume it’s unsafe based on that, but it’s in a pretty residential area & seems so quiet. Why are there not more families with kids using the facilites? There’s such a nice big playground it just surprises me. Anyone have insight?
Cat sitting
Hello! I’m new to the area and going on a short trip soon. Any advice for finding a cat sitter? I’ve never had stranger take care of my cat so I’m a bit nervous about it. I would appreciate any tips!

This month's headliner, Chase Mayer, won Nate Jackson's Funny MF in 2024. He's a brilliant comedian who moved to Concord just over a year ago, so he's our local guy now! Our other comics on the show are some of the brightest and funniest young talent in the Bay Area scene and you're definitely going to laugh your butts off. Come out to our free show, this Friday August 14th, at 8PM. Show up early to get a drink and the best seats!
Looking for advice: Creating a side-driveway boat storage pad in Concord (Zoning/Permits)
I’m looking to reclaim some space on the right side of my driveway (currently sloped dirt/rock with an overgrown agave) and turn it into a dedicated storage pad for a wake boat trailer.
Before I get too far into grading, building a retaining wall, and laying down aggregate base, I wanted to see if anyone here has gone through a similar front/side yard project in Concord.
A few specific things I'm trying to navigate:
- City Regulations / RV/Boat Ordinances: I know Concord has specific rules regarding storing recreational vehicles and boats visible from the street. Has anyone dealt with the planning department on side-yard parking pads or screening requirements recently? How strict is this?
- Setbacks: Trying to make sure the pad sits far enough back behind the front building line to stay compliant.
- Contractor vs. DIY: I have a dump trailer and am planning to rent equipment (mini-excavator, plate compactor) to cut back the slope, but if anyone has local recommendations or warnings about soil/drainage issues in our area, I'd love to hear them.
Appreciate any insights, code tips, or lessons learned from fellow locals!
Is this a safe/good area in concord to rent in?
Mid 30s couple looking to move to this area, any advice would be appreciated! No kids or pets
Bike on iron horse after dark.
Hi, ive recently moved here from out of state. Ive been taking the iron horse lately after dark on my bike, it doesn't feel super sketch, but I also dont know what I dont know about the area. I need to get from by near the airfield to pleasant hill bart station area. Thank you.
Edit: Thanks for the help. I am over 6ft and over 200lbs with a black belt so I might be ok.
I think ill just use it only when I have to at night and maybe use the streets to get to bart.
My biggest concern was being shot at on the trail, ive been shot at while biking back home. Shot at in the sense they were just messing with me, not trying to hit me, but its still not a fun situation.
Any free/cheap indoor options to bring toddlers to hang out and play on hot weekend days?
I have an almost 2 year old, and just hoping to find more indoor options so we're not just stuck at home on hot days. For example, any great libraries for little ones? We also know about Zyland, anywhere else you can recommend? Thanks!
Can I Borrow Your Dog?
Okay, hear me out. I LOVE animals. I have 2 cats and would love to have a dog but they are a really big responsibility and I can't afford another pet.
I am wondering if anyone in Concord, or the surrounding area, would be willing to let me take there dog out for a day? Your dog can have some fun and be spoiled and I can pretend to be a dog owner (temporarily)! I am NOT a professional nor am I asking to be compensated. I just really want to hang out with a dog and maybe take them to the beach or something.
If you love your fur baby, I know it is asking a lot to trust a stranger to take your dog from you, but I am open to meeting up with you and giving you my number so that you can ask my any questions.
Of course, if you allowed me to take your dog for the day, I would send photographs of our adventures and give you updates. I also would ask you if your doggy can have treats/food before actually feeding them something.
Note: I love senior animals, but they do not need to be a senior ❤
Yes, I know that some shelters and rescue organizations have these sort of programs, but to be honest I am not looking to sit on a waitlist and go through an application/interview process.
