Next set of crawlers

So my two boys and myself currently have 10th scale crawlers. While they’re a blast to drive, on rainy days and during the cold season they’re pretty much paperweights lol. I don’t think there are many public indoor places to crawl in our local area so I think I’m going to get a jump on Christmas and start saving up and picking out 18th scalers so we can atleast build a makeshift course indoor and scratch the itch. I’ve already got an idea on the ones I’m looking at pretty hard. Two of them are HPIs and I have zero knowledge of that brand. I did a quick YT search and of course they don’t really dive into the issues you could encounter at some point. Anyone on here have any firsthand experiences with their 18th scalers? Pros and Cons?

How do I fix this problem?

This is the Redcat Ascent 18 Scout ii. I just changed out it's shocks yesterday to the INJORA 59mm Long Threaded Oil Shocks with 25wt oil and it's having extremely poor rebound. When I turn my RC while driving, it leans and then stay leaned.

It does this with and without all the acessories on the car.

Things that I have already done to troubleshoot:

- removed all the oil and refilled it + bleed out all the air

- tried new

softer and stiffer springs

- ran it without oil (still does the same thing without oil in the shocks)

- adjusted the preload to all types of heights

- ran it without all the top heavy acessories

- oiled the O-rings

- loosened the cap where the O-ring is

Any help or advice or criticism is appreciated. I'm desperate, please help!!

Back from storage...

After a couple of years in storage, I got interested in running the TRX-4 Defender again.

New oil and o-ring grease for the shocks.

Added an 8" figure Matt Hooper as a driver.

Hooked the Taxa Outdoors Woolly Bear trailer (scratchbuilt). The trailer was built for an Element Enduro that used a Vanquish Origin body, but I sold that truck a few years ago now. It's true 1/10 scale to the real thing, hence a bit too small for the Defender (which is a 1/8.6 to the real thing).

Had to order new batteries because I don't trust the ones that were in storage.

Redcat Ascent 32 Finished

I put this together from just parts I bought. I figured I wouldn’t use much from a RTR version, so I picked up everything I wanted for the truck.

She’s definitely tiny. The wood is a challenge for it, but it’s doing its thing.

It’s running on 3S, but it’s fully manageable power for it with the Mofo brushless. I thought it would be fun to assemble one of these. They look so raggedy in the stock form, so I figured I’d try to tame it and also get some steering power that works while I’m at it.

The servo is an Injora micro 7kg servo. It’s tight in the chassis, so I widened it a bit to allow it to move with the axle. I couldn’t find a mount for the servo that fit this truck and servo. I now have three servos that I put in this thing. The ones that fit a mount made for the truck are lower voltage.

I installed an adjustable BEC for them, but then there’s even more wiring inside the body, and it’s quite limited on space. So, I cut the ears off the servo, used epoxy on a printed tray that I picked up. The servo is pretty much forever stuck to the tray now.

The Mofo brushless is pretty nice for this truck. It’s plenty fast, but it’ll absolutely creep well too.

I had bought a set of the stock wheels and tires because I wasn’t sure when the Meus wheels would arrive from Japan or wherever. While the RC4WD tires fit those rims, they would constantly come off. Since I had beadlock wheels coming, it wasn’t worth gluing them. There’s a good improvement over stock with the IROK tires.

Painting this little truck was purely trifling. I figured I’d keep it simple, but simple in this tiny body was still a challenge with taping everything.

All in all, it’s a pretty cool truck even though it’s so small. I don’t know that I’d ever buy another vehicle smaller than 1/18 scale though. I’ll try it outside later on, but I’m predicting that anything and everything will be an obstacle for it.

The articulation is minimal, but I kinda figured it would be, given how short the shock travel is. I may try longer shocks down the road. I’ll probably also add a little more weight on top of the steering servo as well. There’s not really many more spots to add unsprung weight. I don’t really want to put weight inside the front tires.

Hopefully, this helps inspire someone to buy a bunch of parts, and enjoy some assembly time. No instructions required.

Custom UTB18!

Finally finished my body for the UTB18. It's nice to have something Hobby grade that's not too big or small. Used TPU alongside PETG and PLA this time. Just waiting on a sunny day so i can do the detailing and weathering on the body. I might buy some bigger wheels and tires too, but I'm not sure where to look. Thanks for checking out my post!

Wheels to big!

I put some new wheels on my TRX4M Defender and they are rubbing the fenders. I cut up the whole body but I really like the Defender body, anyone got some tips?
