Finally got all 5 star on bosses

Finally got all 5 star on bosses

Thanks for anyone who shared their tips about this game. I finally got 5 star on all bosses :)

How the hell are people scoring several hundred thousand against the story levels?

I've been trying to get 5* on prophet but im stuck around the 65-70k mark, and i got curious how high up the boards i am, and ended up looking at the top 10.

There's almost a dozen people with 200k+ score, with 3 of them having 500k plus?? How is that even possible?

Custom track settings

Hi, we’ve seen people asking for BPM and offset settings for custom tracks, and thought it would be beneficial to have a thread we’ll start possibly once a week (will make it so much more manageable this way) for everyone to put songs into. We’ll then either compile everything into google doc or just have a pinned post we update accordingly - open to suggestions on the best way to implement this. Here’s some examples that have been shared:

Baby I'm Yours - Breakbot (BPM: 118, Lag: 0)
• Bye Bye Bye - NSYNC (BPM: 172, Lag: 93)
• Capo - NLE Choppa (BPM: 155, Lag: 20)
• Headlock - Imogen Heap (BPM: 120, Lag: 300)
• Heartbeat - Childish Gambino (BPM: !20, Lag: 0)
• Just Dance - Lady Gaga (BPM: 119, Lag: 0)
• MILLION DOLLAR BABY - Tommy Richman (BPM: 138, Lag: 0)
• ONE CALL - Rich Amiri (BPM: 158, Lag: 45)
• poster boy - 2hollis (BPM: 111, Lag: 20)
• Rock That Body - Black Eyed Peas (BPM: 125, Lag: 0)
• SIN MIEDO - JPEGMAFIA (BPM: 145, Lag: 0)
• supїdo - фрози (BPM: 135, Lag: 0)
• Timeless feat Playboi Carti - The Weeknd (BPM: 120, Lag: 0)

Poll added so everyone can vote on the best option.

Double Trouble one of my best runs so far!

Sorry for the crunchy video lol. I've spent a good many hours trying to get the best run I am able for this challenge. I've still got lots of work to do but I'm pretty happy with #41 globally! For now >:)

Hotfix patch notes

Gameplay
Fixed issue where occasionally a perfect dodge wouldn’t be considered as such when dodging Arora’s meteors. The red indicator should now also be more helpful and consistent. If you felt like this attack was unfair sometimes — you were right.

Fixed issue where Arora’s meteor and Prophet’s car throw could occasionally land instantly.

Fixed issue during the Arora Boss where being at the edge of the arena can cause the meteors to miss the platform and the indicator will blink forever.

Fixed rare issue where players could get stuck inside a falling meteor from Arora.

Fixed issue in Dex’s level where it’s possible to get stuck floating on the edge of a platform after a Mosher attack.

Adjusted the timing on Dex’s intro to not be as awkward (and show a random floating heart).

Fixed issue where Charlie could get stuck and fall through the destroyed bridge in Dex’s level.

Prophet should no longer get stuck out of bounds near the edge of the arena in Boss Phase 2.

Fixed some sound effects not playing in Prophet, Arora and Dex levels.

Adjusted sound effects for when the Fever Bar reaches full.

Updated Shocked tooltip to include that enemies take extra damage when hit while Shocked.

Fixed a bug where bosses could have missing indicators.

Infinite Disco
Added a separate tab for Free Play vs Custom Challenges. Added an initial panel to select which mode to start with. This was to address feedback that the experience could be clearer.

Free Play songs now have heart drops from enemies. The Free Play experience is intended to be easier (like the demo), and Challenges are where to go for a more challenging experience.

Free Play songs now have Leaderboards.

Fixed issue where the shuffle checkbox UI could become inconsistent with the actual playlist shuffle state.

Fixed issue where restarting Challenges during the countdown causes the next countdown to start earlier.

Challenges - Gravitational Pull challenge objective now works for any level of Singularity charge (not just max).

Challenges - fixed an issue where Match Made in Heaven was awarding Fans instead of Points at certain thresholds.

Dead End Drive arena: the crowd shouldn’t invade the playable space anymore and should dither on low-medium settings.

Accessibility
Added color blind settings in Video > Settings.

New Challenges
(yes, even in a hotfix we’ll roll out some new content!)
There are 2 new Challenges to play: Complex Situation and Studio Smash Hit.

Complex Situation has you rush to complete 7 Takedowns while weaving in Heavy Attacks. Unlock the new “God Complex” arena on completion.

Studio Smash Hit has you focus on mastering the Showstopper ability. Unlock the new “Studio Speakeasy” arena on completion.

General
Level Select - Levels now show a brief description for the selected level. Story levels show the highest scores and stars.

Level Select - Changed the names of the difficulties from Easy/Normal to Chill/Amped and added descriptions about the differences. This was done after watching players automatically select Normal instead of an experience that fits the type of gameplay they want. The goal is to make the differences clear so players can select what is best for their playstyle.

Fixed issue where Dex was playing some of Hemlock’s VO.

Prophet’s hood should no longer clip into his head during the finale cinematic.

Fixed sound effects on some transitions.

Adjusted the tutorial to have the player do more of each action.

Reduced the amount of work during the initial benchmark and Auto-Set in Video Settings. This should solve rare issues where players were getting stuck here.

Localization
Fixed Ukrainian difficulty names so they fit correctly and no longer overlap on the level select screen (should be fixed for real this time).

A beginners guide for Boss run order based on difficulty

I put this together because I found it oddly difficult to decide which bandmate to tackle first as the game gives you zero indicators on the level of difficulty for each boss run like this is a Mega Man game. I got a decent order with my initial blind run (Hemlock ➔ Dex ➔ Arora ➔ Prophet), but I would definitely recommend following the revised path I've laid out below. Based on my experience, the game's difficulty ramps up much more naturally this way.

1. Hemlock

By far my number one pick for the boss you should fight first. Maniac is just a perfect song to play through, especially the revised version by Hemlock. Compared to a lot of the songs in the game, this one feels like it was purely designed for the gameplay and not just to sound good.

  • The Stage: Very beginner friendly. This boss run involves minimal hazards, only having two subway trains that follow a very basic left-right-left pattern. It introduces the concept of hazards without overwhelming you.
  • The Enemies: You are mostly attacked by common thugs with only a couple of Elites popping up. In later stages, Elites have power armor on most attacks which prevent interruptions by standard attacks, forcing you to dodge or use abilities you don't have yet. However, the Elites found on Hemlock’s map (the ones not part of Harmony) can be interrupted. While this might teach a bad habit for later, it gives new players some wiggle room to experience the game especially if it is your first rhythm focused game.
  • The Boss: Hemlock is hands down my favorite boss because of how "honest" he is compared to the others. He is a straightforward bruiser. The majority of his attacks are well telegraphed and relatively easy to follow. He calls in a couple of thugs that you can easily dispatch; otherwise, just follow the prompts and win.
  • The Reward: You get your first new ability a sweep attack!

2. Prophet

This was a toss up between him and Dex, but Prophet flows more smoothly into the second boss role because of how his hazards and enemies escalate more naturally from Hemlocks.

  • The Stage: Same common thugs with a slight upgrade to the hazards. They are essentially an upgraded version of Hemlock's train, replacing it with a set of cars. It's the same principle just more of them and they remain easy to dodge since they follow a set pattern.
  • The Enemies: You will be fighting basic thugs, Harmony goons, and the only mid boss in the game currently. I say mid boss but really he is just an Elite with slightly more health and a simplified boss like attack pattern. He is a great skill check and provides just enough challenge for your second run.
  • The Boss: Prophet himself is a tanky boss with a shield and a few surprise attacks. He keeps you on your toes and teaches you that you can't just mash the attack button to win, or he will break your combo chains.
  • The Reward: You unlock Prophet's ability, which is, in my opinion, the best in the game. It causes massive stamina damage if executed correctly, making future boss fights significantly faster and easier. If you want a high score, I highly recommend learning this ability. Grabbing it second gives you plenty of time to practice with it.

3. Dex

Dex sits comfortably at number three. His stage increases the difficulty of stage hazards testing your ability to fight and move around the dance floor while maintaining your combo.

  • The Stage: Introduces more hazards in the form of lighting bolts. The boss will actively alter the rooms to force you to maneuver around them as they close in on you.
  • The Enemies: Aside from the lovable standard thugs, Dex introduces a particular Elite that can only be taken down through a counter attack. You cannot punch your way through them, but successfully countering results in an easy KO.
  • The Boss: This is where things get interesting. Unlike the previous two, Dex is a highly mobile enemy that likes to sit in the sky. Aside from standard boss attack patterns, he will constantly throw out projectiles you need to parry. Dex also relies on slow wind up single hit attacks. Which is exactly why we wanted Prophet's ability first since you can now heavily exploit these single hit attacks instead of just dodging them.
  • The Reward: Once defeated, you unlock a new ability that can stun lock multiple enemies. It's a fantastic tool to give yourself a breather after hitting all those moves.

4. Arora

I'm not going to sugarcoat it: this organic AI kicked my ass multiple times. She is by far the most challenging boss of the lot as she combines everything you have experienced up till this point. However, if you followed this route and practiced using Prophet's ability, she becomes significantly easier to manage.

  • The Stage: The levels aren't necessarily "hard," but they feel like a gauntlet. You will face a section where you have to parry stars and fling space rocks at her to progress, all while fighting off endless waves of space thugs.
  • The Enemies: She brings two frustrating new Elites to the table.
    • The Sniper: A long-range attacker that can easily break your groove, combo chains, and health bar. Tip: The most important tell is to dodge when the sniper's laser turns dark red. If executed correctly, you will be able to teleport right to the sniper for an easy KO.
    • Exploding Mannequins: Not much different from the common thug except that if you hit them once they will blow up if left standing. This can lead to moments where you are damaged unintentionally. Tip: Hemlock’s sweep ability is perfect here to blow them away before they detonate.
  • The Boss: Without Prophet's ability, Arora is a major pain. While other bosses have relatively simple chains or timings, Arora uses delayed timings on her attacks. Basically it's like Attack>Attack>Pause>Dodge. This simple alteration will cause you to find yourself frustrated, wishing she would just attack faster. However, even if you clear her strings perfectly, it rarely leaves her in a stunned state to counterattack. Making the fight last for quite a while.
  • The Strategy: How do you beat her? You have to use your throwables. If you didn't know, you can throw your drumsticks by purchasing the ability. The ability is a fantastic tool for closing the gap.
    • Option A: Wait for her to throw a meteor and chuck your drumstick at it. The rock will roll back into Arora's face, leaving her dazed and stunned for quite a bit.
    • Option B (The Better Way): Use Prophet's ability on her last or single attack to uppercut her in the jaw. Unlike the other bosses, this uppercut can knock her down like thugs and elites. It also does massive stamina damage, both qualities make the fight significantly easier overall, even as the arena throws more difficult stage hazards at you.

Overall, she is by far the most challenging fight, but she rewards players for understanding the core concepts of the game and utilizing every tool in their arsenal. Hopefully, this guide helps anyone staring at the boss screen trying to figure out the best way to tackle this awesome game!

Not really understanding how to 5-star consistently.

Hey everyone! 10/10 game, but it really does a shitty job of explaining the star mechanics right now. I'm trying to 5 star enough challenges to unlock the outfits (and eventually 5 star the actual levels), but despite my best efforts, I often fall short, even if I mix up my attacks and taunt dance after every finisher.

For example, I'm trying to 5 star Desert Gamer, which seems to be a measly 30k to 5-star (I only assume, since the game doesn't tell you the benchmarks), and I'm finishing at about 29k with no real margin of where I could improve, especially since I'm not getting hit once. Meanwhile I see people with 600k on the leaderboards. What combos am I missing here, because it seems like "not getting hit" is not a benchmark for success in this game and its unbelievably frustrating.

Fan MV Trailer

I bought Dead as Disco and I'm absolutely blown away. Once I cleared the game, I knew I had to sit down and make the most of this incredible experience. Out of respect for the developers and their core concepts, I created unique characters inspired by their world and wrote the song lyrics and structure to honor Charlie Disco's entire glamour. I hope you all enjoy!

How do i properly dodge attack of robot shooting laser from distance?

Titlte says it all, all attacks i've seen so far had very good "window" for either parrying or dodging it, but there is one robot showing up in challenges who shots laser from distance and usually i can't time my dodge right, can it be dodged literally only at the last possible millisecond? Is there any other trick for avoiding its attack?

How?

I've used Thunderstruck well over 50 times, I even set upa custom challenge and ended up using it over 30 times in one song and it's STILL locked. Is my game bugged?

Please let me customize the controller layout

I can't stand that the right stick is the only option to control the camera, while there are also two unused bumper buttons right there just begging to be assigned as pan camera left and/or right .

That's my personal gripe, who knows what other schemes people want on their controller setup.

Missed the Early Access sale by a day aaahhh

Pointless rant. Discovered the existence of Dead as Disco like on last day (May 18). Was pretty busy when got home but was like "Okay don't forget to get it before bed".

Of course I was bogged down in other stuff and forgot to get it on Steam before I hit the bed. At some point in middle of work the next day it hit me.

Boooo but ah well, shiz happens. Hope everyone is enjoying summer and the game.

How do you think the other 7 Deadly Sins will present themselves?

So far, the game has played most of the Deals straight, but it twisted one of the sins and its usual meaning.

Dex's deal is "Greed," but rather than having insatiable desire for material wealth, he's instead given endless resources (electrical energy) to play forever. In a sense, he's gotten more than he or anyone else will ever need but it's still not enough and never will be enough.

How do you think the other 3 Deadly Sins will present themselves?

I'm thinking that Lust will be one of the most straightforward manifestations. Basically reference how with celebrity culture, it's depressingly common for parasocial relationships to turn into the more powerful party abusing vulnerable victims.

We may have a more comedic representation of it, like all of the mooks for that particular stage being rabid super fans wearing all the merchandise, and their gimmick is buffing the other enemies through their sheer excess enthusiasm. But there could also be serious exploration at how unfilling and empty it is to have thousands if not hundreds of thousands claiming they love you with all their heart and soul, but never feeling an ounce of actual affection or genuine connection.

Gluttony, meanwhile, I think will be one of those twists like Dex. Rather than the Idol it's associated with being an excessive eater, they don't even eat at all. Their cybernetic enhancement is Cyberpunk Bariatric Surgery that prevents them from ever being hungry every again and just consuming Harmony Farms Nu-TRI-ents (TM) to sustain themselves.

However, they still keep up the appearance of being a gourmand, a lush, and someone who enjoys themselves at parties and fine dining. They take lavish, expensive photographs with food stylists, pay top dollar for the most expensive and gimmicky meals you can find, and go out of their way to collect rare and expensive alcohol--only to just have it tossed away afterward or thrown into a cellar, as they derive no pleasure from consumption anymore.

Sloth, I'm thinking is a hybrid of the two. This Idol, I really feel is both a performer and was the band's sound engineer, too. To tie in with Dex and Arora, they'd be a former Harmony Corp engineer who was secretly sent in with Arora, to act as a handler for her as well as to secretly record and steal Dead as Disco's music so they can make a Totally Legal Generative AI version of them.

They defected from the mission up until Charlie's death, upon which Harmony Corp forced them back into the fold. After being able to make and support original music with heart and soul, being forced to advance Harmony's Generative AI models sucked all the enthusiasm out of them. Now, they just constantly make the absolute bare-minimum and take as many shortcuts as possible, as they've lost all will to try and create something from the heart.
