Decky OptiScaler: a Decky plugin for OptiScaler that lets you change frame gen and the upscaler live, from the Quick Access panel

Hey everyone,

I've been building this on and off for a while and it's finally usable enough that I'd rather have real people on it than keep polishing alone.

It's a Decky Loader plugin for OptiScaler. You set games up per game from Game Mode with a controller. No desktop mode, no file manager.

The part I'm most happy with: live changes from the Quick Access panel.

The plugin ships a small ASI plugin that OptiScaler loads into the game. It makes the same writes OptiScaler's own overlay makes, so the things the overlay can change live, this can change live too.

That means frame generation on/off, the upscaler (FSR 4, XeSS, etc), and the FidelityFX FG version, all applied while you're still playing. The panel shows what the game actually ended up running.

Anything that needed a relaunch before in Optiscaler still needs one. The plugin isn't working around OptiScaler, it's just giving you the overlay's live controls easily accesible from Game Mode with a gamepad without opening the overlay. Settings that can't apply live say so plainly and wait for the next launch.

The rest of it. Your game gets matched against the OptiScaler compatibility wiki and there's an automatic setup process that uses the information fetched from the Wiki: install the DLL, write the launch options, apply the settings that entry recommends.

It finds your Steam libraries including the SD card, picks the install folder next to the game's actual executable, and backs up anything it would overwrite so uninstalling puts everything back.

Basic mode is a handful of controls. Advanced gives you all 288 settings. OptiScaler v0.9.4 is bundled, so there's nothing else to download.

Grab it: https://github.com/danielcamilo1/decky-optiscaler/releases/latest

(Decky's Install Plugin from URL with Developer mode on, download the zip and install it through there as well or unzip into ~/homebrew/plugins/)

This is a first alpha. It works, I use it on my own handheld PC, but I'm one person testing against one library and my own habits. There are bugs, and the UI has rough edges I know about plus plenty I don't, because I've stared at it long enough to stop seeing them.

So please tell me what's broken. Bug reports, "this button confused me", "I couldn't find X", "this wording makes no sense", "it failed on this game". The blunt UX complaints are the most useful thing you can send me, since those are exactly the ones I can't spot on my own.

Issues at https://github.com/danielcamilo1/decky-optiscaler/issues, or just reply here, whichever is easier.

Thanks to the OptiScaler devs and the wiki contributors.

Try it and tell me what sucks.

Unofficial Nexus Mods Decky-Loader Plugin

https://preview.redd.it/ni4xx0tgp5kh1.png?width=1596&format=png&auto=webp&s=8ad6b31c381ae3e93a1bc9112831c1492b500756

Hey everyone!

I've been working on a little personal side project that I'd love to get some feedback on.

I've built a Decky Loader plugin for SteamOS/Bazzite that lets you browse and install Nexus Mods directly from Gaming Mode. The idea was basically: why should I have to leave Gaming Mode and go into Desktop Mode every time I want to manage my mods?

So, this lets you browse your mods, install them, manage Collections and FOMODs, and generally handle your mod setup without picking up a mouse and keyboard. There's also a health check which reads the game's logs and tries to tell you what's actually broken, rather than just saying "something went wrong".

It's very much an unofficial, beta, personal project, this isn't an official Nexus Mods product.

Everything uses the public Nexus Mods API with your own account. A Premium account is currently required for downloading (free accounts can still browse), and you'll need Decky Loader installed.

I've currently got support for:

  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Elden Ring (including co-op)
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Skyrim SE
  • Slay the Spire 2
  • Stardew Valley
  • The Witcher 3

I've personally installed, modded and played each of these on actual SteamOS/Bazzite hardware before adding them, but there's obviously a lot of hardware, game versions and weird mod combinations out there that I haven't feasibly been able to test.

You can grab it here:

https://github.com/RedRanger14/decky-nexus

I'd genuinely love feedback, whether that's bugs you've found, things that feel clunky, features you'd like to see, or games you'd like me to add.

There's a "Report a Problem" button built into the plugin which creates a GitHub issue with your setup information, so hopefully you don't have to spend half an hour explaining exactly what Steam Deck/Bazzite/Game/Plugin versions you're running.

One important warning: this does modify game files, so please back up any saves you care about. Every supported game can also be reset back to vanilla from within the plugin.

Anyway, that's the project! It's something I've been tinkering with in my spare time and I'm really interested to see whether it's actually useful to other SteamOS/Bazzite users.

If you'd like to, give it a try and let me know what you think.

Emulation Decky Plugin: Feedback and some testing needed

Even though these are great projects, I've never been happy with the EmuDeck/RetroDECK experience of having to go back to the desktop fairly regularly to do most of the work, so I've been working on a Decky emulation plugin for myself around that very principle (never leaving Game Mode).

The plugin is not made for huge libraries of games, but for individual games instead, with the idea of having them directly in Steam rather than via separate/multiple frontends. I guess it's a very specific use case, but maybe it could be useful to somebody else as well.

Features (all available/configurable from Game Mode):

  • Add ROMs directly to Steam from Decky QAM
  • RetroArch support
  • Predefined list of external emulators
  • Ability to add your own emulators (via Flatpak, executable, or importing a definition file)
  • A "Transfer to Deck" feature to upload your ROMs from your PC or mobile phone
  • Artwork support (libretro thumbnails by default, SteamGridDB via API key)
  • Collections (single or per-platform)

(I'm probably missing some stuff)

Anyway, I've been tweaking things for a while now, but I'd sure appreciate some feedback if anyone's willing to give it a spin/test it a little bit/report bugs.

You can install it via zip as usual or via url using get.deckyemu.workers.dev

A helpful app

Go to Desktop mode, Applications, find Nested Desktop, Install it. Run Steam in Desktop, add the app as a non-Steam game. Return to gaming mode. If you have DeckyLoader, change the artwork so it stands out more. Now you have a way to do some Desktop tasks directly from Game Mode. For instance, I just used it to install the MAKO - Frame Gen. I just don’t see a lot of videos, or posts for that matter, bring it up.

Decky Loader not showing up after install. I've tried everything Google told me to. Please for the love of god help me. How can I get Decky Loader to show up?

I'm Linux illiterate. Really tech illiterate in general.

I've tried wiping the homebrew folder, I've tried completely uninstalling and even wiping Decky Loader, I've tried switching to the prerelease install. I've tried what feels like everything short of factory resetting the whole deck.

Idk if it'll help but here's what I'm seeing in Konsole when I run the install:

chmod: cannot access '/home/deck/homebrew/services/PluginLoader': No such file or directory

% Total    % Received % Xferd  Average Speed   Time    Time     Time  Current
Dload  Upload   Total   Spent    Left  Speed
100 54890    0 54890    0     0  12975      0 --:--:--  0:00:04 --:--:-- 12976

Failed to start plugin_loader.service: Unit plugin_loader.service has a bad unit file setting.
See system logs and 'systemctl status plugin_loader.service' for details.
The unit files have no installation config (WantedBy=, RequiredBy=, UpheldBy=,
Also=, or Alias= settings in the [Install] section, and DefaultInstance= for
template units). This means they are not meant to be enabled or disabled using systemctl.

If anyone can help I will love you forever

**EDIT: something worth mentioning is that when i re-run the installer, i'm only getting the option to uninstall like half the time and it seems completely arbitrary. usually i just have the option to install the stable version or prerelease version, but occasionally it'll hit me with the uninstall+keep config and the "total wipe" options despite nothing seemingly changing under the hood.**

Playhub | Now Playing 2.4.0 now available

Hello everyone!

A new update for Now Playing is available.

This update makes Spotify playback more independent and resilient, fixes the FaultyRequest(INVALID_CREDENTIALS) error, extends surround upmix sound to Spotify, and smooths out source changes across the entire plugin.

If you’d like to support the project, even a small tip would mean a lot for me:
LoZazaMastro Ko-fi

>Important!
To fix the FaultyRequest(INVALID_CREDENTIALS) error, please disconnect and reconnect to Spotify after the update.

What’s new

  • Spotify surround upmix now supports 5.1 and 7.1 output with the same per-speaker controls available for local music and YouTube Music.

Improvements

  • Spotify playback services now recover automatically after startup and authenticate in the background when the saved account can be reused.
  • YouTube Music skips unavailable tracks instead of leaving playback stuck.
  • Surround settings now update Spotify’s integrated mixer live, without stopping, reloading or losing the position of the current track.
  • The LFE channel uses a restrained 120 Hz low-pass mix with additional headroom, preventing bass from being redistributed excessively across the main speakers.
  • Stereo and surround playback now share consistent headroom, avoiding sudden volume jumps when Spotify upmix is enabled or disabled.
  • Source ownership is stricter, so Spotify no longer takes control while local music or YouTube Music is selected.
  • Runtime checks now guard Spotify API polling, helper ownership, source isolation and live surround updates.

Fixes

  • Fixed Spotify occasionally failing to start until Restart plugin services was pressed.
  • Fixed Spotify taking over playback controls while another source was active.
  • Fixed broken YouTube Music items blocking the rest of the queue.

You can update it directly in the Playhub Plugin Store in the Playhub app, or download the zip from the release page and install it via Decky dev mode.

❗FAQ

"Wait, what is Playhub?" 😮

Playhub consolize your Windows gaming experience with features like Steam-first startup, easy Decky plugins install, game imports and Big Picture polish. More info in the project repository here to find all the details.

"I like that, but how does it work?" 🤓

To easily understand how Playhub works and how to install it, I recommend you to take a look at my Overview + Tutorial video

"Oh no, I hate AI..." 🫩

This project is personal, completely free and open source. You don't like it? Don't download it. It's an app, not a medical prescription.

"But why aren't the Playhub plugins available on the Decky Store?" 😱

They are built using human hands and AI tools. Decky management doesn't allow to developers who use AI to be on their store. Playhub respects this decision, that's why Playhub Plugin Store exists.

"Does Now Playing works on Linux?" 🥺

No, Now Playing is a Windows exclusive plugin. It will not work on Linux.

Thanks again for your support and for sharing your feedbacks.

Deck Shelves v3.0.0

Deck Shelves 3.0.0 is here! 🎉
This is the biggest update the plugin has received so far. The goal wasn't just to add features, but to make Deck Shelves feel like a more complete and polished part of the Steam Deck experience.
⚙️** A real Settings page
The old compact menu is gone. Settings now open in a full-screen interface (from the gear icon in Quick Access) with dedicated tabs for Shelves, Profiles, Shortcuts, Backup, and more.
📊 Statistics & Smart Suggestions
See how you actually use your shelves with activity charts, most-used shelves, and a breakdown of your library. You'll also get one-click shelf suggestions based on your games, along with recommendations to clean up shelves you never use.
🧩 More powerful shelf creation
Creating shelves is much more flexible now:
Many new filter and sorting options (playtime, genre, achievements, install size, friends playing, and more).
Combine multiple sources into a single shelf.
New built-in shelves like Never Played and Deck Playable.
Include games from other launchers.
🎨 More customization
Personalize every shelf with logos, icons, descriptions, and resizable banners. There's also a new full-page shelf layout for a more immersive look, plus small game icons displayed next to each title.
💾 Profiles
Save your entire configuration as a profile, switch between profiles instantly, and export/import them for backups or multiple Steam Decks. A built-in Default profile lets you reset everything whenever you want.
🎮 Custom shortcuts
Remap—or completely disable—the controller shortcuts to match your preferences.
🔍 Better navigation
Quick Search lets you instantly jump to any game, while the new Side Navigation makes moving between shelves much faster and automatically opens on your current shelf.
☀️
Light Mode **& 🛠️ Advanced Mode
Choose the experience that fits you:
Light Mode keeps the interface simple by hiding advanced options.
Advanced Mode unlocks integrations, diagnostic tools, reset options, and log viewing for power users.
🔔 Better notifications & logging
Notifications are now cleaner and more consistent, with dedicated icons and clickable update alerts. For troubleshooting, you can enable Show all logs and copy them directly when needed.
This release includes many additional improvements, fixes, and quality-of-life changes beyond the highlights above.

Decky plugin to switch NVIDIA driver versions on SteamOS, no USB stick needed

Hey everyone, made a new Decky Loader plugin! Some of you might know me from decky-proton-launch (https://github.com/moi952/decky-proton-launch) — this one's for anyone running SteamOS with an NVIDIA card via steamos-nvidia-installer (https://github.com/moi952/steamos-nvidia-installer).

It lets you pick and install any NVIDIA driver version straight from the running system, right from Quick Access. No USB stick, no repair image, no reinstall.

Only reboot when you're actually ready to.

https://preview.redd.it/kigwfrgavsih1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8639e498ad06ab533619f8afb8d15c4986c82650

- Any version from the Arch archive, tagged with NVIDIA's own channel

(Recommended / New Feature Branch / Beta), fetched live.

https://preview.redd.it/4u8wh1ldvsih1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0c1e92b091c2c34093548a387b0d4e30fb0122c2

- Filter which channels show up, and pick which one counts as "latest".

https://preview.redd.it/9734g4tevsih1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7263d9c70314d3964918e1aee11f6106a4b5b3d2

- Real release notes for any version before you install it.

https://preview.redd.it/gko6b0zfvsih1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d0e5f786f6d6a904baf443c5e9590630dd73796

- Live progress log while it runs, Reboot now button when it's done.

- Games, saves, Steam login, Decky untouched — the risky part runs in a throwaway overlay, the real filesystem only gets touched for the final copy.

Already have SteamOS + NVIDIA installed?

You'll need to run a repair once first (the "Upgrade SteamOS (NVIDIA) — keeps games & data" option on the USB) — it'll offer to grow your system partitions to 8GiB, since Valve's stock 5GiB doesn't leave room for a driver install. Fresh installs already get 8GiB by default.

Let me know what you think!

Add Non Steam Games Decky Plugin

Hi friends,

I made a decky loader plugin called Add Non-Steam Games. it lets you add any game or app to your steam library without ever leaving game mode, so no more switching to desktop mode just to click through "Add a Non-Steam Game" and then switching back. I've been using it on my own steamOS installation for a while now and it works great.

features:

Two ways to pick something: an Applications list of everything installed on the deck with real icons and a search box (native, flatpak and snap all show up, so chrome from bazaar is one tap), or a Files browser with your folders and drives if you want to point at an exe directly.

proton gets preselected automatically for .exe, .bat, .cmd and .msi files, and you can pick any other compat tool from the dropdown.

you can drop the game straight into a collection while adding it, and it handles the annoying stuff for you like setting the start directory and fixing a missing executable bit.

its also fully d-pad navigable, no trackpad needed.

one thing worth knowing: steam only saves non-steam games to disk on a clean shutdown, so the plugin offers to restart steam after adding (with a remember my choice toggle). otherwise your shortcut can vanish the next time steam gets killed.

If that sounds useful, you can manually install it in decky by going to: Decky Settings → Developer → Install Plugin from URL and pasting the direct download link

Direct download: https://github.com/danielcamilo1/decky-add-non-steam-games/releases/download/v1.7.9/Add-Non-Steam-Games-v1.7.9.zip

Github: https://github.com/danielcamilo1/decky-add-non-steam-games

It's free and open source, happy to hear any bugs or ideas

Decky ruined my steamdeck!

I’ve been frustrated for a few months now dealing with deckyloader. I finally bought another wired keyboard to try and reset the sudo password. When it gets to the screen to finally type in a new password the keyboard automatically stops working. Had to shut it off because it froze on this screen then a lot of words came up and I had to wait about 10 mins for it to rest. When it finally came back on a lot of games are freezing or just not loading up. Wish I never downloaded that damn thing
