Songs on Deezer Desktop sound much louder than on Spotify Desktop

I recently switched from Spotify to Deezer (I absolutely love Flow and the genre/mood recommendations — I’m discovering a lot of new music that Spotify never really recommended to me), but I noticed something unusual: tracks in Deezer on PC sound almost twice as loud as on Spotify at the exact same volume level on my wireless headset. Spotify volume normalization is completely disabled.

What’s interesting is that if I enable volume normalization in Deezer, the loudness becomes almost identical to Spotify (with normalization still disabled there). Why does this happen? I found another thread discussing Deezer’s loudness normalization, but not in this specific context.

My assumption is that Deezer streams the audio signal much closer to the original mastered output in FLAC without additional processing from the platform (even if I switch from HiFi to 320 kbps, the loudness does not change at all), exactly as intended by the sound engineers, so some tracks may naturally sound louder or quieter than others. However, they clearly do not seem to follow the same -15 LUFS normalization target that Spotify appears to apply even when normalization is turned off.

Another possibility is that Deezer’s desktop app simply outputs a hotter signal or uses some kind of built-in preamp/gain compared to Spotify.

This question has really been bothering me because the loudness difference is genuinely massive, and I’d really like to understand the technical reason behind it.

Move to Top (of Playlist)

I use the Android app, Windows desktop client and browser version (Chrome). Shouldn't there be a "Move to Top" option when sorting a playlist?

I don't like the change they did to flow.

If I have to tell flow what I want to listen to I might as well let it play my own music, also the standard genres it chose for me are mostly songs id never listen to, I don't know if this is a beta feature but please give me the old flow back, it's the only feature keeping me from going to Spotify.

Is this considered normal behavior from Deezer algorithm?

Switched from Spotify to deezer about a year ago. I'm not expecting the algorithm to be similar. I knew what I'm giving up when I left. I read that it's not smart right off the bat and I need to train it, let it get to know my taste and actively like or dislike song.

but holy freaking cow it's getting worse by the day, to the extent it feels like a prank. It picks the absolute opposite of whatever song I start a mix of. Sometimes it just plays the rest of the album of the same song instead of a mix.

  • In the screenshots you can see one track mix is just the songs from the same album.
  • another a metal/post-rock track mix that is followed by "30 pop acoustic hits of 2012" latino pop and piano covers.
  • Ty Segall track mix is a 180bpm drum and bass followed by classical orchestra.

Missing artwork?

Anyone having this issue where the album art is missing from the 'Mixes made for you'?

When I go into these, there's also no shuffle option.

Done the cache clear, reinstall etc

Random songs giving me MS0004 error

Ever since this morning certain songs in an album from different artists are giving me MS0004 errors.

For instance three songs from Joanna Newsom's Divers (Anecdotes, Same old man, YWNTMHA), and three song from Cocteau Twins Heaven or Las Vegas (HoLV, frou frou, and cherry funk) all give me the error but everything else is fine. It's the same across a few different artists I've checked out.

I've cleared my cache, logged in and out, and reinstalled the app like I've seen suggested for this error.

Desktop app doesn't have these issues.

App Completely Broken

Has anybody else had the app completely fall on its arse the last couple of days? I can't even access my library now, the app keeps freezing and not responding and trying to close. Parts of it work but no search, no library, no music able to play except last played and even that keeps stopping and starting.

Tried all the obvious of clearing cache, stopping, restarting, etc. Just wanted to see if anybody else is experiencing issues before I contact Deezer so I can have a better idea of what I'm dealing with.

I recommend Deezer all the time but I've lost count of how many times I've come up against issues like this now and I think I'm reaching the end of my tether with it.

Thanks!

For some reason, I have two albums appearing at the top of the home page that I can't remove. They're not pinned or in my favourites. Any ideas?

Will deezer get autoplay (automated recommendations) on mobile anytime soon?

It’s one of the main things keeping me from using it. Any news on this at all?

Alternative Deezer App to the official android one?

I'm so sick of this app. It's slow, it's buggy, and the discover features aren't great. Are there any alternative third party apps? Im honestly considering just going back to using a portable CD player at this point. I'm so tired of the unpredictability of how this app will react when trying to do the most simple things.

Payment requirements for artists

I wanted to ask you if on Deezer, like on Spotify, there were requirements to enter the payment pool. For example, a certain number of unique listeners. (I read about the boost if one has more than 500 listeners, but I'm asking about the minimum requirements to get paid and I don't mean the boosts).

Artist keeps showing up on my homepage

Hi! I made the switch from Spotify to Deezer for several reasons and so far the switch is going well. However, I do find myself with quite an unexpected problem.

See, I love some of Peaches' older albums. But for the last week or so, her latest single is glued to my homepage, both on phone and desktop. This means whenever I open Deezer, I'm face to fave with this rather explicit and unsettling cover. It's especially daunting as I use Deezer at work as part of my job as a radio music director.

I begrudgingly asked Deezer to stop recommending this artist and also asked it to stop recommending this particular single, but nothing changes. Every single time, it's the #1 recommended album on my home page. Is there anything I can do?
