I'm 20 and currently nearing the end of my 2nd year of BDS in a GDC.

I didn't take a drop after Class 12. I couldn't get into MBBS through NEET, so I joined BDS.The truth is, I regretted it from literally the first day. I wanted to drop out during my 1st year itself, but my parents refused and kept telling me to complete BDS and then go abroad for my master's.

The problem is that I never wanted dentistry. I wanted to study abroad from the beginning, and ironically, my parents also had that dream. But they insisted that I should at least attempt NEET and then ended up pushing me into BDS when MBBS didn't happen.

We're a low middle-class family, so studying abroad is a huge financial decision. That's one of the reasons I didn't push harder back then.

Academically, I've always been a straight-A student. Now I study just to barely pass exams.It's mentally exhausting. I feel like I've wasted years of my life and whatever potential I had.

The only reason people tell me to continue is because "you're already halfway there." But if I'm being honest, even if I somehow finish BDS, I don't see myself practicing dentistry or pursuing MDS. I want to switch fields completely.

Since I'm in a government dental college, dropping out now wouldn't involve losing lakhs of rupees in tuition fees like it would in a private college.

So I'm stuck with one question:

If I already know I don't want a career in dentistry, does it make more sense to leave now and start building the life I actually want? Or should I complete the degree just because I've already invested two years?

Has anyone here left a professional degree midway and not regretted it? Or finished a degree they hated and felt it was still worth it? I'm looking for honest opinions.

Hi, i am a third year student studying in a good bds college in india, i am sure of pursuing OMFS abroad. Please if anybody could tell me the pathway of getting into USA or Australia through BDS pathway to become an OMFS in these countries and could you please underline the cost required for these pathways. Your help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

I took neet this year and getting around 400 marks.. lookin to join bds private or deemed as government is not possible.. saveetha is out of budget wht other good college is out there please guide me. I often hear u have to get your own patients ... does that apply to all college is there any college that allots patients for you? Please help out.

Guys need to know a few things about the college

1. How's the college, course, faculty, facility?

2. Important: Is the college safe for girls? Is the crowd decent?

3. Important: Is the girls hostel facility safe and secure? How far is it from the college? How strict it is?

4. Are there good, healthy and veg food options nearby?

I couldn't score much in neet this time due to some unfortunate circumstances. It was my 1st drop . I am thinking of doing BDS from pvt college as this field interests me . I wanted to know how is the pay scale after completing BDS . I come from a middle class family too . I heard from some people that this field is highly saturated and you will have to work extra hard is that true ???

Hello everyone! I am new to this sub. I want to genuinely ask if BDS is a profession I can rely on for life.I belong to a middle-class family and would be a first-generation dentist. While I do not have enough marks for a government or semi-government MBBS seat, I easily have enough marks to secure a government BDS seat in my home state. However, I do not want to pursue it just for the sake of getting a government seat. I also do not like the idea of being in a profession where I cannot support my loved ones, invest for the future, or be happy in the present.I am ready to work hard. My father is encouraging me to go for it because he sees a local practitioner near us who charges ₹500 per visit and treats 10 to 12 patients every day, despite being a quack. However, I am thinking a bit more broadly. I want to choose a field that guarantees employment, whether I enter the private sector, the government sector, start my own practice, or move abroad. I do not want to sleep with regrets, thinking I could have done better by choosing something else.I hope you all can give me some honest, unbiased advice. Please do not judge the profession solely based on whether it personally worked or did not work for you.
