Nail techs that use colored acrylic?

Nail techs that use colored acrylic?

Hello! My natural nails are paper thin. I removed my acrylics for over a year to let them grow out and try to strengthen them but no luck. I like to get my nails done about once a month but I've found anything other than acrylics chip, crack or break. I used to get a colored acrylic applied by brush and they'd last the whole month. I can't find a tech to do this. They all use dip or want to apply gel polish. I tried both those methods but they didn't last. Does anyone know a salon or tech that still uses color acrylic powder? Maybe I'm just way out of trend! Pic for attention, I just like one color.

Women 40+ without kids - how are you spending your time?

Hello women of Denver! I’m 40 and I’ve lived here for 15 years (bounced between Denver and Boulder twice, but mostly Denver) and am staring down a very difficult choice. Part of that decision making process means envisioning what a semi-childfree (my partner has an elementary aged kiddo 50/50 and doesn’t want another) life would look like in Denver. I didn’t foresee my life going this way when I was 26, or 36 for that matter, but that’s how the cookie crumbled.

To be fully honest, this place has never quite fit my East Coast vibe. I’m from MA and came here by way of NYC and spent the first 25 years of my life around people who were similar energy - it’s not for everyone! Part of the disconnect for me has been that I’m not super outdoorsy - I’ve only done two 14ers in all my time here (I prefer a more casual hike), have camping gear that hasn’t been used in about 4 years, and I only ski on-piste. I’m not the biggest drinker (2 glasses of wine and I have a buzz - cheap date!), and even then, I feel like I aged out of the bar scene about 6 years ago. I go to the occasional 2000s-2010s indie show, dig around in record shops and love to explore new (to me) music, religiously go to the farmers market and love cook with what ever I hauled, and am a regular at a pottery studio.

If you are childfree/childless in Denver, and any of that sounds like the kind of things you’re into, I would love to know what else you are doing here with your peaceful, free lives, your free time, and where you find community with people who either don’t have kids by choice or by circumstances. The pity, concern, or assumption that I have kids is starting to get to me. Women my age get weird when you tell them you don’t have kids - they don’t know how to relate anymore. Truthfully, I’m pretty content. God forbid a middle aged woman be happy without children! Denver feels kinda isolating in some ways if you’re not on the kids-or-outdoor adventure wagon. In my case I feel a little in between childfree and childless, because the *choice* is being forced by the *circumstances* of my age and the fact that this relationship is like 98% perfect for me. Sometimes you have to “round up to The One” as Dan Savage says, and I want to envision what staying here and living my best life could include if I were to make a sacrifice and choose my family rather than create one. TIA!

Rentals by private landlords?

Wondering where the best place to search for rentals from smaller private landlords is? Is craigslist a decent option?

My daughter is an incoming DU law student and her budget won’t accommodate higher rents from bigger property management companies.

Best resources to find / spread awareness about a LOST DOG?

Denver friends,

Looking for any recommendations or ideas to help find a missing dog that has been lost for a month with no credible true leads. Posts have been made continuously across social media and Facebook groups, fliers have been posted, shelters and police contacted and constantly monitored, posts made on PawBoost and similar sites as well as Ring, Nextdoor, etc.

If anyone has been in a similar situation trying to find a lost pet with success and has any recommendations or any other ideas - please do share.
Last seen in Berkeley heights April 17.

UPDATE: flier with info and pictures available here

Drugged at 1up barcade on Colfax

I was drugged at 1up last night.

I went out with my girlfriend (who does not drink at all or do drugs) and a guy friend. Over the course of 3 hours I had a total 3.5 beers and nothing else. After ordering my 4th beer I put it on a table behind me while I watched my partner play pinball.

Halfway through the 4th beer, my memory of the night goes black. My partner told me that within 30 minutes I went from being totally fine to staggering and slurring.

I have no memory of the rest of the night but my partner and friend told me that after pinball we went outside. We were approached by a heavyset short (maybe 5’8) Latino guy in his 30s or 40s who offered me “cocaine”. My friend said the guy pretended to do some himself, but that he didn’t actually do it. He knocked it off the key and fake snorted it.

The Latino guy was with two white guys (maybe in their 40s.) Both were close to 6ft tall. The white guys looked similar like they could be brothers or twins, they said they were dressed “kind of dressy” —not what you’d wear to a club. They were standoffish and didn’t speak to us, despite being seated near us and gaming out with the Latino guy talking to us.

My girlfriend and my friend said the three of them felt “off”. They said they seemed unlikely to friends and that it seemed weird the three of them were together. My friend said the white guys “seemed like sociopaths”.

My friend said the Latino guy said he was from Chicago and had a slight Chicago accent, and that he was actively trying to give me drugs off the end of a key. My friend grabbed the key and said “she doesn’t do coke” Instantly after that, the three of them got up and left together.
We didn’t see them anywhere, presumably they left the premises entirely.

Additional to this, my gf said that she saw a van with a man in it parked outside in the street. She said the man in the van was watching all this.

After this encounter my gf decided it was time for all of us to leave. We got an Uber and went home, where she said I started to feel very sick and nauseous. She said we were up for 3 more hours, which I remember nothing of. This is nothing like how 3.5 beers would normally affect me.

Today I went to the hospital and asked to be tested for date rape drugs in my system, and I was told that unless I went to Denver health, that most hospitals could only offer a standard 10 panel drug test. I took that and tested negative for everything but this test does not detect the most common date rape drugs-Rohypnol, GHB, Ketamine.

I called the police and filed a report. I was even able to tell them exactly where we were and within a 10 minute window of when the drugging likely happened.

I am frustrated and in disbelief that it is so difficult to access drug testing for Rohypnol, ketamine, and GHB—the most common date rape drugs other than crushed common benzos). I was told that if I had been sexually assaulted then the testing would be offered. This is crazy to me because obviously anyone drugging people like that is intending something very bad, like robbery, assault, trafficking etc… and the drugging itself should be taken seriously imo.

Someone informed me that I can go to Labcorp and self-pay for the labs. I intend to do that, but they aren’t open until tomorrow. By then the chances of detecting many of these drugs becomes very low. I’m lucky I had people looking out for me. I’m worried for those who might not be so lucky.

Makeup application/artist recommendations in the South Denver Metro Area (in Highlands Ranch/Lone Tree)?

Looking for something affordable. I was considering Ulta/Sephora, but I have heard mixed things about the outcome of these. Would love to hear any recommendations, as I'm someone who doesn't wear makeup often/doesn't have much experience with makeup application.

Seeking Denver General Staff from July 1991

I’m getting older, and I have always wanted to thank the people who saved mine and my baby’s life after a car accident, on June 30 of 1991. My son was born on the 4th of July, 1991 while I was 17 and in the ICU. I was on a ventilator, and the Respiratory Therapist had to hand bag me for almost an hour. I don’t remember much, but my R.N. mom was there, and she was my memory from that time, but she’s gone now. We’re from Alaska, and there just happened to be an (I believe) Asian, male Resident there, who had been a Medical Student in our tiny hometown (God is so good!)!! Unfortunately, I don’t remember any names, but I remember the human connections I felt from not feeling like just another patient. I felt they actually cared that we survive and thrive. Plus, I know some O.B. nurses must have gotten attached to my preemie son, since he spent the first month of his life in the NICU. He’s 6’3” now, and is such a sweetheart. Please help me find these people, internet! I suspect my mind won’t be sharp for much longer, as the effects of the TBI seem to be getting worse, or I’m just getting old!

Denver dating apps feel exhausting so I built something different.

No endless swiping.
No fake energy.
No pressure to be perfect.

Just real conversations, good vibes, icebreakers, and a fun way to meet people around Denver.

I’m building this locally and currently offering FREE subscriptions for women while the platform grows.

Features I’m working on now:

  • Icebreakers
  • Intent Rooms
  • Better conversation flow
  • Less awkward starts

The goal is simple:
Make meeting people feel fun again instead of draining.

If you’re in Denver and want to try something new before everyone else gets on it, comment or message me and I’ll send the link.

No pretense. Just fun.

Let’s go.

Safe Secluded Places to Relax?

I (25F) have been going through it and my nervous system is overloaded and shot. Just one of those times where it feels like the universe is hitting me from every angle and takes all my money from me.

I just wanna get out. It’s been so beautiful outside lately I’ve been really enjoying drives around town with my windows down and my music blasting. But I want to go somewhere by myself where I can just be in nature and not have to worry about someone sneaking up on me. The likelihood of something like that is low but definitely not zero. Obviously I can go to the mountains, but I’m a hiking newb and would prefer to not have to drive too far. Maybe some nice parks, walking trails, etc. I also have anxiety and a little bit of paranoia surrounding strangers… specially men. I’m not from here I’m from a very small town in the midwest and don’t have much experience going out by myself.

I just wanna be at peace for a day and leave the real world behind for a bit. And get a tan. Thanks!

Trendy shorter cuts for fine/thinning hair?

Looking for a stylist that loves to cut fine and thinning hair. I’m hoping for someone who skews a bit more trendy (shaggy messy bobs with more modern layer patterns) that won’t leave me looking like I want to speak to the manager. My hair is straight and I haven’t dyed it in a decade. Really just looking for someone who can make the cut the focus without adding color dimension. I’m in Cap Hill twice a week for work and located very far west the rest of the time, so west of Colorado Blvd and south of like, 44th would be ideal.

23F visiting Denver May 31-June 9: looking for local recs, LGBTQ spots & people to explore with :)

Hey everyone! I’m 23F and I’ll be in Denver from May 31 - June 9 for a conference.

I’d really love to meet some people to hang out with and explore the city while I’m there :)

A bunch of things I’m hoping to do:

  • explore downtown + different neighborhoods
  • museums (science/history, but also art)
  • parks, walking around, bookstores, good food, etc.
  • maybe go down to Colorado Springs to see the Olympic & Paralympic Museum
  • catch a Rockies game
  • maybe tour Empower Field
  • watch WNBA games or women’s sports somewhere (women’s sports bars do not exist where I’m from)
  • check out gay/lesbian bars and any Pride events going on since it’ll be June
  • honestly down for almost anything fun locals would recommend

I’m mainly just looking for cool/chill people to explore with, grab drinks or food, walk around, go to games/events with, etc.

I’m not really trying to use dating apps (don’t wanna pay to change my location for one week lol), so I figured Reddit might be better for finding friends/community or clues on where to look next to find cool people (other subreddits, Instagram, etc.)

I have also never posted on Reddit so let me know if I did anything wrong!

If anyone has:

  • food recommendations
  • favorite parks/neighborhoods
  • museum suggestions
  • women’s/LGBTQ spaces
  • a friend group willing to adopt me for a day
  • or just wants to hang out while I’m in town

Feel free to comment or message me :)
