Underrated Death Metal albums you should check out

  1. Blood Ritual - Black Grimoire: Seattle based Death/Black metal that riffs for days. Some nice atmospheric passages as well. https://blood-ritual.bandcamp.com/album/black-grimoire

  2. Damonacy - Grotesque Treasures: A compilation album of a band that I wish had made a full length. Extremely think NYDM from New Jersey with vocals that sound straight out of the Florida scene. Best of both worlds here. https://damonacy.bandcamp.com/album/grotesque-treasures

  3. Ruin - Plague Transmission: Absolutely grimy DM compilation that sounds like if Autopsy played in the NYDM style. https://hpgd.bandcamp.com/album/plague-transmissions-vol-i

  4. Vrenth - Baptism Death: Blackened Death Metal from California. These guys share members with Ruin, Ascended Dead, and Funebrarum. Basically a supergroup like Black Curse but without the same exposure, which is a crime because this fucking rips. https://vrenth.bandcamp.com/album/baptism-death

  5. Abhorrency - Climax of Disgusting Impurities: Excellent meat and potatoes War Metal leaning on the DM side. It may not reinvent the wheel, but it’ll melt your face off. https://abhorrency.bandcamp.com/album/climax-of-disgusting-impurities

  6. Deteriorate - Rotting in Hell: One of my favorite unsung gems from the golden era of Death Metal. By 1993 a lot of bands were trying to out technical each other. Not these guys. They went for the full blasting, bludgeon you to death with badass riff after badass riff approach, and Death Metal is all the better for it. https://deterioratedhr.bandcamp.com/album/rotting-in-hell

  7. Gorelust - Reign of Lunacy: Last but certainly not least, this BDM outfit from Canada truly sounds like if you took the OSDM template and downtuned everything to BDM standards. Extremely solid stuff that stands with the best of them. https://www.discogs.com/release/10046460-Gorelust-Reign-Of-Lunacy

What do we think about this

The latter half is straight up Swedish death metal and this was 1987. It needs to be brought up more often

Sub has been inactive for 2 days time to post badass melodic death

Idk if this qualifies as melodeath but it riffs

What’s your favorite Running Wild album?

Just started listening to this album and it’s excellent, any other must hits in their discography? And any bands that have a similar sound (not the obvious thanks)?

Bands that do their own things, have their own signature sounds and yet still doing it consistently great throughout their discography?

Deceased after Fearless Undead Machine is the one that fits into this. They have that sick blend of death/thrashy style with a mixture of NWOBHM dual guitar harmonics riffage and then a sprinkle of Voivod-esque dissonance. This is the kind of soundscapes you would expect from Fearless Undead Machine until As The Weird Travels on. Anything after Surreal Overdose where they amped up the Voivod dissonance and thrashy tempo.

What'd you think? Do you have any bands that do this too?

Best USBM album?

The US has a somewhat overlooked black metal scene since it's definitely most well-known for its thrash and death metal, yet there are still a few gems to be found.

Some of my favorites include:
Judas Iscariot - To Embrace the Corpses Bleeding (my 2nd favorite black metal album overall)
Grand Belial's Key - Mocking the Philanthropist
I Shalt Become - Wanderings
Uada - Devoid of Light
Black Witchery - Desecration of the Holy Kingdom
Not totally sure if this counts, but Angelcorpse - The Inexorable

What are your favorite albums under this genre and region?
