Why is Diet Coke the go-to drink for fat loss, but not Pepsi Zero Sugar

Whenever someone is dieting or trying to lose weight, I almost always see people recommending or drinking Diet Coke. But Pepsi Zero Sugar is also zero calories and zero sugar.

So why does Diet Coke seem to be the default choice?

Is it just better marketing or brand loyalty?

Does Diet Coke actually taste better to most people?

Is there any nutritional or health difference that makes people choose Diet Coke over Pepsi Zero Sugar?

Or is it simply because Diet Coke became popular first?

I've tried both, and I actually enjoy Pepsi Zero Sugar. I'm genuinely curious why it doesn't get the same recognition, especially among people focused on fat loss.

What's your take?

Is anyone else noticing a difference in taste?

I’ve been drinking canned Diet Coke for years, and have always found it to be perfectly “crispy” and carbonated after about 36h in the fridge.

The last few weeks I’ve noticed that my cans lack flavor, and are fairly flat. This is across two different cases but from the same store. It’s got to the point where I genuinely don’t enjoy drinking them, it almost tastes like the store-brand cola, rather than the real thing.

Has anyone else been experiencing this? For context, I’m in Central Texas.

Has anyone observed that after consuming diet coke for some time, regular coke becomes too sweet to consume?

Has this happened to anyone else?

After I read this article – https://www.thinkabout.info/articles/the-diet-coke-trap-why-your-brain-can-t-go-back-to-regular-soda

– I can't get my head over it.

Previously, I liked regular Coke, or Soda's in general; however, after having Diet Coke for several months, the return to regular sodas seemed too much in terms of their excessive sweetness. It looks like my tastes have somehow been altered unconsciously.

Is this because of the adaptation to artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, or is there some kind of neuroscience behind why your brain suddenly started to prefer Diet Coke? Have any of you successfully made the switch back, and if so, how long did it take you for regular soda to taste fine again?

How is this possible

I’m dieting trying to lose weight and I’m sitting here drinking Diet Coke thinking “how the fuck can this taste so good yet have 0 calories?”

I’ve had diet coke for years now but it actually hit me when dieting. This is the most magical substance ever created. Give the genius who created it a Nobel peace prize ASAP.

P.S Diet Coke is the best tasting soda (way above normal coke) in my opinion.

I’m Stoked on This!

I love myself a fridge cig. Now I get to carry a fridge cig with me as a wallet. :)

Also, I’d love to share a few of these with the Diet Coke community. Let me know your favorite setting to enjoy a Diet Coke and I’ll send a few out to people.

I’ll go first. There is no better place to enjoy a Diet Coke than on the golf course. Nursing a nice fountain Diet Coke is the way to go on the golf course.

The Coca-Cola Mantra Challenge 2026

Hi everyone!

I'm participating in the Coca-Cola Ambassador campaign, and I wrote a story that's very close to my heart about a college friendship and how a simple "Bro, meri bhi Coke le aana" became a memory we still cherish.

I'd really appreciate it if you could take 2 minutes to read it. If the story resonates with you, please consider leaving a like or a comment. Even better, share a memory of how Coke became a part of your friendships, family moments, or any special relationship.

Your support genuinely means a lot. ❤️

I’ve been drinking Diet Coke every day for 2 years. Am I cooked?

I’m 25 years old, and I had my first Diet Coke when I was 22. Before that, I used to drink regular soft drinks, but over time I switched completely to Diet Coke.

I’ve done 75 Hard twice, and I’m currently doing it for the third time. My diet is generally pretty disciplined, but one thing I can’t seem to give up is Diet Coke.

At this point, I drink at least one can every day. If I don’t have it, I genuinely crave it. It’s become part of my daily routine, and I feel weird without it.

I’m curious if anyone else has been in the same situation. Is drinking one can of Diet Coke every day for years actually a problem, or is it mostly harmless? Should I be trying to quit, or am I overthinking it?

Would love to hear from people who’ve had this habit long-term or from anyone with knowledge about the health side of it.
