Is 14,000 QAR/month enough for a married couple with no kids in Doha?

Hey everyone,
I’ve received a job offer in Qatar within the IT sector with a total package of 14,000 QAR per month. Housing allowance included in salary.
We are a married couple with no children, and we're trying to figure out if this is a realistic amount to live a comfortable (though not overly luxury) lifestyle and manage some savings.
Will we be able to put any money away, or will we just be breaking even? Or should I move alone for while?

Thanks in advance.

Feeling stuck at home, looking to find active communities / hobby groups

Hi all, I am 23 years old, Male, I spend an unhealthy amount of time at home, which has made me quite lazy.

I have been looking for jobs, but as usual, I end up with almost 0 responses.

So keeping that aside, I actually wanted to explore any active communities or social/hobby groups in Doha. I love photography, so anything related to that would be fun.

I'm also open to anything: sports, board games, creative workshops, or casual coffee meets.

If anyone is in the same boat, pls DM

Moving to Doha , need Advice

Hi everyone,

I am planning to move to Doha soon with my family (my wife and our 2.5-year-old child). My wife will not be working for now.

Coming from a Muslim-majority country, I expect the cultural transition to be smooth and comfortable for us. However, I’d love to get some realistic insights from current or former residents regarding cost of living and saving potential.

Here are our details:

  • Package: 45,000 QAR/month (All-inclusive + Health Insurance covered)
  • Family size: 3 (2 adults + 1 toddler)
  • Housing plan: Furnished apartment (looking for a decent/family-friendly area)
  • Childcare: Planning to send our 2.5yo to a nursery/preschool

A few specific questions:

  1. Does 45k QAR provide a good, comfortable lifestyle for a family of three?
  2. With this package, is there a realistic potential to save a solid amount of money each month, considering housing costs, nursery fees, and general daily living?
  3. Any recommended areas to look for furnished 2BHK/3BHK apartments that are family-friendly?

I would really appreciate any thoughts, budget breakdowns, or general advice based on your experiences! Thanks in advance!

Do I need a Lawyer?

I got scammed of 20k QAR last week. I meet a guy online from this car dealership Instagram page. I met him personally at their showroom. He gave me keys to test drive some of the cars. He told me to bring 20k as cash deposit and drop some amount of check to complete payment.

I have been in contact with the guy as he is from my country. After 1 week I got the money, I met with him. I gave it to him, and he told me to come back the next day for registration and all other necessary things. The next day the guy is unreachable. I visited the showroom, they told me he was laid off a week ago.

Now I know I shouldn't have giving him cash without receipt from the company, a mistake from my part. But I think the company has put this guy in a perfect position to scam people. Because this guy is on their Instagram page, he is on advert video for them. When they laid him off, not official message that customers should not deal with him anymore.

Is there a lawyer here that can advise me? I want to know if I can make a case against this car sales company?

TIA

Transiting through Doha airport with nicotine vape

I checked the subreddit and the most recent thread was from 2 years ago. We are transiting through the Doha airport with a layover of about 4 hours. Can I bring my vape device with me? E-liquid (nicotine, not CBD or THC) in a separate pod still in its packaging. I have no intentions of using the vape whilst in transit and I also don't want to break any laws.

11 hour layover in Doha, want to see the city

Hello,

We'll be having a layover in Doha, arriving on a Tuesday at 15:10 and leaving at 02:45 AM Wednesday, so that's 11 hours 35 minutes of time between flights, and I guess about 9 hours of relaxed time to see Doha.

I am really excited to see the city and the first time to be happy for a layover experience, however I do not know how to plan it in such a limited time.

I am aware of the guided tour you can get from the airport, and I have that as an option, however I did read and see that in some places it won't stop, or if it stops, you won't be going inside as well (for some museums, if I am not mistaken).

Are there any tips on how to do this right and be able to enjoy Doha as much as possible before the next flight leaves? Which exact sites should we see/are worth it and by which means to do it?

Thank you!

Question regarding UPDA/MMUP registration?

Hi, I'm an electrical engineer, working in qatar since 3 months now in an electrical company. I've a vaild Engineers QID issued on my name. And, previously I have worked in India for 1.6 years.
Few months ago, my HR asked me to start my UPDA process. I had my Degree and Transcript already attested from Qatar Embassy in India when I arrived here.

So, after that text, I started my journey of UPDA here. I applied for Indian PCC, and once it arrived, I MoFA attested all my required documents. And, also applied for Qatar PCC on Metrash.

Now, I texted the same HR again, asking him to give me an employment letter such that I can register myself on UPDA website.

He replied by saying "Due to new company policies, we cannot issue an Employment certificate to you as you've not completed your 6 months". (I have completed 3 months here).

So, my question is/are:

What should I do Now?

Can I still register without the certificate even when I have less than 2 years of experience?

Should I wait for my completion of 6 months probation?

P.s: I talked to a UPDA consultant in qatar, he said that I can apply without the certificate, but, I just want to make sure that I don't get into any issues as a lot of money is spent on it already.

Ive encountered conflicting info online where some sites state that I need an international driving permit while others state that I don’t and can drive without a IDP for 7 days.

Would appreciate it if someone can give me the correct info pls 🙏🏼
