Solo camping advice

This will be my second time at Download and my first time going solo due to a recent breakup, I can’t lie I am incredibly nervous about going myself.

Can anyone offer some advice on what it’s like camping solo?

Really been fighting the urge to not attend but I know it will be good for me and healing etc. but I’m pretty frightened.

Tent size question

Is my tent too big for Download general camping? It is just me and my Download dog but he doesn't like the rain and likes to run about inside. I also need to park in West carpark because Download dog gets tired walking.

Obsessed - Am I Alone?!

I get like this every year. Four weeks out and I become *obsessed* with Download. Every other thought and some in between is Download. I've had the same list on my phone of what to take for the last three years (this is my fourth) and it rarely changes. This year all I've added is pineapple. But I still look at it, check it, mentally pack it into my car to find the best configuration. I go over the bands I want to see, my personal schedule, routes between stages. Stare at the map trying to memorise it like I don't already have it emblazoned on my brain. I read posts & comments, get buzzy when someone says something in the group chat. I have to stop myself mentioning it to people in everyday conversation because I know full well I'm a broken record. Like I say, utterly obsessed. Call me sad AF if you want, but I'M JUST SO DAMN EXCITED and there's fuck all anyone can do about it 😁😁😁🤘🖤

What sandals are you guys wearing to stay metal?

I'm always in my hiking boots and end up with socks absolutely drenched in sweat. Can't seem to find a comfy pair of sandals that won't give me blisters and don't look ridiculous with standard metalhead attire. How're you guys letting your toes breathe this year?

Oh also am large hairy dude. Say hi if you spot me.

Big boots for big moshing

I need recommendations.

I only ever wear chunky platform boots, usually DM Jason max, or buffalo but neither of those have done me well during lots of walking and mosh pits.

What are your go to stylish, chunky boots that hold up well to the pit? I cant have another year with my sole coming apart 😩

Friends camping gear

Me and my wife are both staying locally Thursday night ready for early set up Friday morning but our friends are coming on the train so won't be coming until around 2pm.

My question is can I take their tent and set it up next to ours on their behalf as well as our own. Thanks

Trolley Guide after 14 years of attendance

Hey Downloaders!

After 14 years of attending Download and seeing so many broken trolleys, thought I’d share this again as I did a few years back on the FB group to hopefully save some people wasting some money on trolleys that don’t last.

Trolleys like the first and second images (from

Temu or Amazon) have a significant weak spot on them, particularly when loaded with a ton of beer! You can see on the image (with the pink circle) a small tube connecting the handle & front wheels to the trolley. Over the years I’ve seen so many of these snapped. One little mis-distribution of weight, hitting a dip in the ground or a rock and the trolley tips and it can bend or break completely.

For clarity - if you’re loading it lightly, it would be likely ok, but most people bring trolleys because they’re loading up heavier things like shelters, tents, beer etc! My trolley tends to weight a tonne so a stronger trolley is crucial for me!

The third image is a modern version of the trolley I have which has lasted me almost a decade so far. You can see underneath that the turning mechanism is attached directly to the body of the trolley. This is way stronger, and the price different isn’t massively different, but the extra cash is well worth the investment as it will last you much longer if you’re transporting a lot of stuff into camp. I’ve had it so long I had to replace the tyres (got plastic hard yellow ones now, they’re way better) and it’s at the point of being rusty and old. I’ve tipped it over more times than I care to remember, it gets used at DL and Bloodstock every year and even used at my work for moving heavier good around and it’s still going strong. Paid about £60 for it in 2015 and they’re about £100 now on Amazon.

Hope this helps someone have a better experience getting into camp and saves you some money over the years!

Do the Big Gren Coaches have stops?

When I ask this I mean to pick up other passengers? I went from Manchester last year and we went straight to Download but I am going from a smaller place this year and wondering if they stop for others?
