No Duke 3D map jams? Why?

I've always liked how the Quake and Doom communities collaborate with many map makers and produce multi-level map jams and community projects. A lot of fun and interesting projects have been made by both communities this way. Why don't we see something like this being done by the Duke Nukem community for Duke Nukem 3D? There definitely are fan made maps for the game, but no where near as many as for Id Software's games.

Dnf 2001 old ghost town 2000

I finally restored the old ghost town map; it’s from around the year 2000. There are still some details from the 1999 version, but not many.

Reply with a one-liner if you've ever been flash-banged by Duke Nukem

I'll start with "I'm gonna roast your nuts over an open fire, you flaming alien bitch."

Looking for a custom city map from my childhood (circa 97-00)

Ok, so this might be quite a stretch, given the amount of custom maps made, but it has been torturing me for past 2 decades. I randomly remembered it again and set myself to find it this time.

Exposure: The game itself came on a burned/warez CD and it was the vanilla DN3D game with no mods/no atomic edition. The CD also contained Carmageddon 2, Re-Volt, International Rally Championship, and I think NHL 98, so the map was definitely no newer than, say, 2000. The map must have been bundled with it somehow, because I had no internet back then and couldn’t have downloaded it myself. This makes me think it might have been quite a popular map. There might have been more maps, but I don’t recall any others.

What I remember: The way I accessed this map was via a custom save file. It was a pretty non-linear-feeling map compared to the campaign, where I could roam freely. It used LA Meltdown assets. The save file started in a subway, where there were multiple platforms, benches, and lots of Pig Cops. I don’t explicitly remember riding the trains anywhere, so I don’t think the subway was the centerpiece of the map.

From the subway, I emerged into the city. There were a couple of stores and some other accessible indoor areas. There was a bar/pub of some sort where I remember destroying glass bottles, and right next to it there was a hole/pit/crater, possibly with acid, where Assault Troops would spawn or at least were very common around.

Continuing through the city, I remember a hotel or some other indoor area with a kitchen. There were heavy doors that, if opened with me standing the wrong way, would crush me to death.

I know for sure that right in the middle of the city there was a Battlelord boss fight that I could access whenever I wanted. I think he was in an arena or stadium of some sort, but what stood out to me was that he was basically always there, and I could get to him at any point.

Rest is a bit blurry, but I know that after fighting the Battlelord, the outro screen of LA meltdown would trigger (the one with the semi-naked lady on the monitor, it has been permanently burned into my innocent 7 yo brain haha).

I know this is pretty hard to track down, but I also know a lot of the original community is present here, so I figured out I will give it a shot.

Thanks!

Introducing myself: Damn, I'm looking good.

Just dropping in to introduce myself to the sub.

I’ve got balls of steel, a full tank of gas, and I’m all out of gum.

Currently busy tearing up the ruined city streets on my bike, but I had to stop by and check in on my fellow alien-kickers.

Hail to the king, baby. 🕶️🏍️💨

Duke 3D PCVR Options?

Pretty sure that you can play in VR on the Quest. Is there a way to play in VR on PC?

I've always wanted to play Duke 3D in VR. I've been playing with the voxel + path tracing mod and I would love to be able to add VR to replay in a way 12 year old me would be absolutely jealous of.

There's been a recent wave of vibe-coded VR mods coming out for older games (e.g., Mario & Mario Kart 64), and I would it if it happened for this classic.
