Bike Party May 30 10-3pm and group ride at 3:30pm- 104 st & Jasper Ave

Join the YEG Bike Coalition for a fun, family-friendly Bike Party at the market. We’re teaming up to bring more people downtown by bike, support local vendors, and show how safer streets help everyone.

Enjoy activities throughout the day including:

Kids’ Market Bingo with prizes
Adult Scavenger Hunt exploring downtown by bike
Cycling resources, route tips, and community info
A welcoming space to meet other riders and market visitors

Then cap off the day with a casual group ride to a local patio or watering hole.

Whether you ride every day or haven’t biked in years, this is a great chance to experience downtown by bike and see how vibrant people-friendly streets can be.

Advice for First eBike

Hi All,

I recently moved to Edmonton and am looking into buying my first ebike and having a hard time deciding which one to get. I've been looking at either the Aventon Level 4, Aventon Adventure 3, Velotric Discover 3, or the Velotric Summit 2.

I'll mostly be using the bike for commuting to work on the north side and I like idea of riding the bike for running small errands and riding on bike trails on the weekend.

The things that caught my attention with Aventon was the extra security features it had. I'm still planning on buying at least two different locks for it as well as insurance though. I test rode the Level 4 and liked how responsive the throttle was.

With Velotric, I've heard they're really comfortable and have a higher load cap and IPX rating. I test rode the Discover 3 and had no complaints about it.

Here are my main questions.

  1. Has anyone had experience with riding any of these bike. What did you like and not like about them?
  2. Does IPX5 vs IPX6 make a big difference. I'm mostly thinking in regards to riding in the winters here.
  3. How bad is bike theft here? Thinking the extra security features on the Aventon would be nice on top of the 2 locks.
  4. Anyone who has a Discover or Level bike. Would it be ok for riding on trails. Definitely no MTB trails but I was thinking like dirt trails or something.
  5. Are there any other ebikes you'd recommend.

I am planning to test ride the Summit and Adventure but just mostly looking for people's personal experiences. Also, I found a shop that services both brands.

Thanks again!

How do you handle "nice" drivers?

I take the bike lanes on 96th street through Delton a couple times per week. Pretty much every day there will be a scenario, where I have the stop sign, but a driver on the intersecting avenue will stop and try to wave me through like I'm a pedestrian.

Typically, I try and make eye contact with the driver then point to the stop sign to try and tell them that I have the stop sign. I don't think it ever registers though.

How do you handle those types of situations?

Why are there no gran fondos in or near the city?

I’m still relatively new here, but looks like there used to be one in Strathcona county, but otherwise you have to go to different parts of the province to join a large, organized event ride (whether or not it’s for charity). Wondering if there’s any history/context about why we don’t really have anything in the city?
