Emirates cabin baggage: 1–2 cm over + laptop bag allowance?

Can someone clarify this for Emirates? My cabin trolley is 56 × 33 × 23 cm, while Emirates’ accepted cabin baggage dimensions are 55 × 38 × 22 cm. So mine is only 1 cm over in length and 1 cm in depth. Has anyone travelled with a trolley that’s 1–2 cm over? Was it accepted without any issue?

Also, does a personal laptop bag with a laptop, documents and a few essentials count toward the 7 kg cabin baggage allowance, or is the laptop bag allowed separately?

Edit: I’m flying from India to Dubai, and then from Dubai to Geneva, Switzerland

$1450 upgrade to business worth it?

Hi folks, I have never flown business in any airlines and I got a promotional deal to upgrade my DXB-> SEA flight for $1450 for 1 seat, I had originally booked it for $900 for 1 seat in economy just a month ago.

So I snapped the deal for 2 seats and upgraded us! Is this a good deal? I don't really understand CC points and never look at business prices but this deal feels good to take!

I Want to get bumped - What are my chances ?

I am a student flying KUL-DXB-DMM on 14th Sep with a Economy Saver ticket ( Booked with the Student Discount ) . I want to know my chances of getting bumped from EK343 (A380 from KUL-DXB) which usually flies full most of the times.

I have heard that many Airlines overbook their flights & sometimes will look for volunteers to be bumped if all passengers were to show-up offering them Perks such as Vouchers , Upgrades on the next flights etc.

  1. Who do i ask if they are looking for volunteers to get bumped - The check in desk agent or the Gate agent ?

  2. What are the chances of me actually getting an upgrade to Business on my next flight if i were to volunteer to be bumped in an overbooking scenario.

  3. What are the chances of me getting some kind of voucher if i were to volunteer to be bumped in an overbooking scenario.

  4. How much negotiating power do i have in such a scenario - regarding the value of vouchers , upgrades to buisness , access to lounges etc ? [ I spend around $750 for the round trip ticket so what would be a voucher worth taking? ]

A380 Starlink information

Hi guys, I know that this might be a very vague post but I was just wondering if my next flight EK353 SIN-DXB would have starlink? I know that tail numbers aren’t published this early but does anybody have any insight on the A380s with starlink? Thank you

Will the flights be canceled? Or should I cancel it myself?

Hi guys, I’m so sorry for bringing this topic. My flight Is tomorrow and it DOES look to be scheduled on time.

But today’s situation is worrying me. 1. Whether it’s safe to travel and 2. Whether emirates will cancel the flight or something happens …

I’m transiting via DXB.

Should I reschedule or cancel all together?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Emirates separate PNRs via Dubai. Can bags be through-checked?

Hi everyone, looking for advice from anyone who has faced something similar.

I have two separate Emirates bookings. On the outbound journey, I’m spending around 5 days in Dubai before continuing to Paris.

For my return:

Paris → Dubai → Mumbai

I have around a 15.5-hour layover in Dubai. Both flights are Emirates, Economy Flex Plus, and operate through Terminal 3.

Emirates support told me that the Paris check-in team can only confirm on the day whether they can through-check my baggage all the way to Mumbai.

If they cannot, I would need to clear UAE immigration, collect my bag, and check it in again.

I’m an Indian passport holder with valid US B1/B2 and Schengen Type D visas, so I qualify for UAE Visa on Arrival, but it costs around $63. I would rather not pay that just to collect and re-check my baggage.

I also checked the 48-hour transit visa, but Emirates/VFS says I cannot currently apply for it online for this itinerary.

Has anyone had a similar Emirates-to-Emirates connection?

  • Were they able to through-check your baggage?
  • Is there an airside baggage transfer option at DXB?
  • Has anyone managed to get the 48-hour transit visa or Dubai Connect visa assistance?

Ideally, I just want to stay airside and have my bag transferred to the Mumbai flight.

Any recent first-hand experience would be really helpful.

Upgrade with Cash greyed out

Hello all, hope everyone is keeping safe!

I have a flight scheduled in September and I was looking at upgrade options pretty regularly (it’s a 13 hr flight so was hoping I get lucky with pricing lol). This week, the upgrade with cash option is greyed out for some reason, when the weeks before it was clickable.

I’ve asked live chat and technically can still upgrade by getting in touch with them, but then I won’t really know the price until I chat with them which is annoying. They also said it shouldn’t be greyed out.

Does anyone have a solution or has anyone experienced this before and had it fixed?

Appreciate your help 🙏🏼

Edit: cant sleep so went to live chat to query again - the next guy was super helpful, said it’s bc my flight was adjusted by 10 mins and it wasn’t synced to my itinerary (i reckon it’ll sync in a few days when i get an email for the updated schedule). He has manually updated the itinerary for me and i can now check and click on the upgrade with cash :)

Emirates/DXB travelers: Does today’s UAE missile alert change your comfort level transiting Dubai?

Today (Aug. 18), the UAE activated air defenses after missile threats directed toward the country. Residents received shelter alerts and interceptions were heard in Dubai. The all-clear was later given with no reported casualties or damage.

DXB remains open, UAE airspace is open, and Emirates’ long-haul network is operating.

But an actual missile threat + shelter alerts feels different from the recent Hormuz/shipping issues.

For anyone in Dubai, transiting DXB, or flying Emirates soon: Are you still going? Did today change your comfort level? Any firsthand experience at DXB or with Emirates cancellations/changes?

We transit DXB shortly and would especially appreciate real traveler experiences rather than geopolitical predictions.

Student Discount's 10kg baggage allowance — is this actually guaranteed at check-in?

Hi! I’m travelling Karachi - Dubai - Bologna in mid-September and just wanna know something whether it's actually possible to get the extra 10kg, because originally (before i found out about student discount) i was thinking about purchasing the extra weight . I don't have my student ID yet so my concern is whether this is actually reliable at the airport. I only have my offer letter. I’m worried bec i've heard of people arriving at check-in expecting a baggage benefit/offer and being told it wasn’t applicable if they dont have the ID, then having to pay a lot or remove things from their luggage (i've heard the similiar happening for qatar airways or turkish airlines too).

Tbh I'd rather pay for the extra weight beforehand than actually face problems at the airport or be told that i can't avail the extra 10kg benefit bec my offer letter doesn't work.

Has anyone here, who did not have their student ID yet, actually used the 10kg baggage benefit on a Karachi to Italy route? Did it show up correctly at check-in without any issues?

I just want to be 100% sure before I pack for 35kg and get to Karachi airport only to be told I’m actually limited to 25kg. Thanks!

Heathrow <> Dubai Upgrade Prices

Hi, I typically fly with BA and collect Avios so this is a new airline for us. We plan to be out in the Middle East more on a frequent basis going forward.

What are the standard upgrade prices for Emirates Economy to Business on Heathrow flights, it’s currently at 2,929 for two in October. Would this be standard and when is it best to check for a better deal? I would love to fly over business and upgrade to premium on the return in November.

First-time flyer here — Emirates to Hamburg for my Master's (Sept 15). Cabin baggage + immigration questions!- HYDERABAD!

Hi everyone! This is my first time flying internationally — I'm on an Emirates flight to Hamburg, Germany on September 15th to start my Master's (via Dubai).

Would really appreciate some real-world advice before I go.

Does a laptop bag count as my ONE cabin bag, or is it extra?

I booked my ticket for ₹51,000 using a student discount code. My total baggage allowance works out to about 47 kg (checked-in + cabin combined), which already includes an extra 5 kg I bought separately as add-on baggage.

My cabin bag is a laptop bag carrying my documents, laptop, mouse, and a couple of other electronics — it weighs around 6 kg.

I've seen conflicting info online about whether Emirates Economy treats a laptop bag as a separate "personal item," or whether it just counts as your one 7kg cabin bag. If you've flown Emirates Economy recently — did they weigh/check your laptop bag separately, or was it fine as your one carry-on?

Any other tips for a first-time flyer/student on this route would mean a lot. Thanks so much! 🙏

Dxb-nrt cash upgrade

Hey
On app now premium upgrade from economy dropped to 400usd for passenger (economy -premium economy)
It's a 9.5 hour flight on 777
This price is considered good? Flight is 2 months away
Thanks

Better to purchase Premium Economy outright or get Economy and the upgrade at a later date?

Just checking to see if it's better to purchase Premium Economy outright or get an Economy ticket and then upgrade at a later date (within a week of purchase). Is the pricing the same or will it be significantly higher? Anyone who has done that and can provide feedback?

My flight will be DXB-LHR and back. It's a work trip - company is paying for the Economy leg.

Update - Purchased the Premium Economy outright to avoid any surprises later on.

Best engines view?

Hello everyone. We are flying Emirates for the first time. We were supposed to have two flights on A380 (it was our dream to experience emirates A380), but very unfortunately one of the flights got changed to 777... So now we are left with only 1 flight on A380 and it is equiped with what I believe is the new 4 class layout and the economy seats start at the row 52 instead of 40 something. (As it was the case on the flight that got changed to 777) I would kindly like to ask here if anyone else has flown this cabin layout before and if the rows 53 and 55 offer a good engines view. Unfortunately the experience is getting ruined more and more, so at least we would like to have a decent engine views. I would be very happy for any recommendations. Thank you.

partial check-in confusion

hi everyone! i just tried to check in online for my entire flight from South Asia to Europe, but I only got my online boarding pass to Dubai. What do I need to do? Will my baggage be checked in to my final destination or I will need to pick up it and go to check in again? Will I receive my boarding passes initially? Has anyone experienced it?

Best way to get miles??

Hi all,

Had Emirates NBd Skywards infinite card for three years… average spend per year 150k… actually quite disappointed with the value and benefits which is why I cancelled 2 months ago.
I lived in several countries and had very interesting Credit cards that accumulated points insanely quickly.

2 months ago my situation also changed.. got a new job and I fly frequently but it is paid with the company card and I get the miles. What is the best for me now to increase my miles as I am not paying for the tickets anymore?
