Software-driven 3D rendering, done entirely on a 16-bit cpu

Hello all! For a while I've been working on my fantasy console, which I've posted about here before. Today I released v0.4 with tons of bugfixes on the emulator itself, but that's not what I'd like to bore you with today. See the spinning cube? That cube is actually a fully software-driven wireframe renderer running on the CPU, even in spite of the lack of floating point support.

What surprised me when making this is how intuitively concepts like fixed point math and Brasenham's algorithm play with retro hardware. With some effort, I was able to get the CPU's cycle count to play nice and render the cube with no stuttering. Are there any systems of the 16-bit era that tried to do purely software rendering on the main CPU (except for the SNES with the Super FX) beyond simple wireframes?

Admittedly, this is more cool than it is useful for developing games for the console, but I just thought I'd share it because it seems amazing to me that such a restricted system can do so much when programmed correctly. Not to mention I never thought I'd come to like high school math like vectors. For anyone curious, the source for the renderer is here.

Looking for the best emulator setup for Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream at 60 FPS on my laptop

I’ve been wanting to play Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream for a while now, but I’m on a pretty tight budget, so buying new hardware isn’t really an option. I’m hoping to find the best emulator and settings setup that can give me a smooth experience — ideally around 60 FPS if possible.

I’ve seen people mention different emulators, mods, and performance tweaks, but I’m not sure what actually works best right now, especially for lower or mid-range PCs. I’d really appreciate honest advice from people who’ve tested the game themselves.

I’m mainly looking for:

  • The best emulator for stable performance
  • Settings that help reach or stay near 60 FPS
  • Recommended graphics/audio settings
  • Whether mods or patches are needed
  • Realistic expectations for my hardware
  • Any common issues or fixes I should know about

My laptop specs:

  • CPU: AMD Athlon Silver 7120U with Radeon Graphics (2.40 GHz)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics (489 MB)
  • RAM: 8.00 GB (7.24 GB usable) 5500MT/s
  • Storage: 168 GB of 238 GB used
  • OS: Windows 11 Home 25H2

I’m completely fine lowering graphics or tweaking settings if it helps performance. I mostly just want the game to feel smooth and playable without constant stuttering or crashing.

If anyone has experience running the game on similar hardware, I’d love to hear what worked for you. Thanks!

J2me emulation on R36s

Is there any progress in j2me emulation on R36s?

I tried running j2me games on my device.

This question is specific to Pro evolution Soccer (all years) 240x320.

Other resolution versions of this game run on device with cut screens.

But240x320 gets stuck on title screen.

Fyi, I have run other games on this device with 240x320 and they run fine. I have also tried to run pes 240x320 on pc and android, it runs smoothly there.

The issue is definitely with emulation not the file or device.

I have attached g drive link for anyone to try.

Please let me know if anyone knows a workaround for this.

Primal Rage and Emulator

I’ve been struggling to get a decent emulator to play Primal Rage. I’ve tried PlayStation and Sega Genesis emulators, but every Zip file is “invalid” except the ROMs. Need suggestions.

PPSSPP Android Version 1.20.4 Update

I thought this was going to be a small update, but after checking the newest PPSSPP version, there are actually a surprising number of changes and fixes hidden throughout the update.

Some improvements affect multiplayer, some improve visuals and UI behavior, and there are also a bunch of fixes that could help overall emulator stability across different devices. There are even a few additions I didn’t expect to see included yet.

I made a quick breakdown/showcase covering the interesting parts I noticed.

Thoughts on Emu-Sync? How does it compare to Syncthing?

While I initially looked into moving rom save files onto external storage devices like SD cards (so I may easily access my saves from either my Bazzite PC, Steam Deck, and hopefully eventual Steam Machine), I recently found out about using cloud syncing. I've heard of two examples: EmuSync and Syncthing. (Here's the link to the farmer's github https://github.com/emu-sync/EmuSync)

I'm inclined to try out the former since, well, it seems more in line with emudeck. But I need more insight. What are your thoughts on EmuSync? How does it compare to Syncthing?
