Proximity unlock, just kidding!

Anyone have this issue? I'm using my phone as a key (Pixel 9 Pro on Android 17), and the proximity unlock does this. It lights up an unlocks as I approach, then goes "lol jk" and locks again before I get to the car.

I've never had prox unlock work with my phone.

Please tell me someone has a solution...

The Documentation Gap in the Battery Recall: What You Need to Know Before Your Repair Appointment

⚠️ The Problem

Volvo and the DVSA automatically clear your car from the recall database via internal updates. Because of this, main dealers are handing cars back with zero independent proof of work completed. My dealer initially offered just a verbal handshake and a software update. No invoice, no serial numbers for the new modules, nothing. We spent 90 minutes discussing the situation and working out a solution together so I could get proper paperwork and independent verification of the repair.

📋 What We Worked Out (What to Ask For):

  • Itemised Workshop Invoice: (Zero mark-up) showing all materials, hours, and labour.
  • Module Serial Numbers: Both outgoing and incoming battery modules.
  • Up-to-Date Warranty Record: Showing all transactions since registration.
  • Photos: Physical photos of the actual work, if possible.

💡 Why This Matters

With a massive wave of repairs coming over the next two months, most owners won't think to ask for this because the system doesn't force dealers to give it to you.

There's no need to be demanding. Once we sat down, talked it through, and looked at why it mattered, my dealer was incredibly helpful and happily provided everything. It's just a case of collaborating with them since the standard system doesn't prompt them to do it automatically.

Note: I've put together a free, complete checklist for this. I'll drop the link in the comments below to keep the main post clean and easy to read.

Recall done (for me)

Last Wednesday my car went in for the battery recall fix, thought I’d document it here in case it helps others.

I am in the UK, my car was registered mid ‘24, MY24 Twin. I was issued the £200 charging voucher and I own the car. I had not raised any complaints or charged my car above 70% limit.

I was first contacted at the end of April to book it in. I was not contacted by my local retailer, where I purchased, it was the next nearest which is about double the size of my local. The only thing I had to do was make sure the state of charge was less than 20% at drop off.

I was informed that all 3 of my battery modules would be replaced.

The repair was done by two master technicians, in a dedicated workshop on the site. I was told it takes up 3 bays of space to crane the modules out/in and that there is limited access to the workshop during the repair.

The repair took half a day, there was one done before mine. From activity I could see in the app the process took about 3.5hrs. Once the car reconnected the initial charge was 50%. When I collected the car was ready with a 90% charge.

There has been no change to the battery health reading in the car (I was at 99% before), which I was surprised at. I’ve since been informed that this may recalibrate after driving. There is no manual reset.

My VIN is still showing as recall on Volvo and DVLA (UK Gov) systems. I’ve been informed it’s only recently been submitted so will take a few weeks to update.

Hope that helps, hopefully some of you have had yours done as well 🤞

EDIT: I was also given a courtesy car (Volvo XC40, petrol, auto) free of charge for the day. Just had to return it with the fuel I used (£18 - which is about a months worth of home charging!).

The paper holder on seats

Hey!

I got a car wash today and noticed the paper holder on the seat is gone. When i called the place they said they didnt know what i was talking about.

Do you guys have a paper holder piece which you can flop? On Single Motor Extended Range.

I think its default feature but can be sure now. I need a confirmation if you have a paper holder kinda of thing on your rear seat or not pls coz i dont know its name :(

It looks like a 30cmx10cm rectengular leather piece and nothing else.

Letter from Volvo Australia regarding recall

Did any other Australian owners get a letter from Volvo saying after further investigation their car IS NOT affected by the hardware issue? I just got one today in Sydney.

Well this is wrong

As you can see, I cannot access the vehicle menu because it is “Not available in reverse gear”, except I’m in park…
Switching into Drive, then back to Park, removed the restriction. Clearly a bug in the firmware though.

For those of you wondering when your EX30 Battery will be replaced.

I’ve raised a smalls claims court case against Volvo Car Finance. Has anyone had any joy with a rejection?

EX30 servicing cost

When I bought my EX30 in 2024, it came with 3 years servicing included. (UK).

I’m thinking of part exchanging it for a new one, but they’ve stopped the free servicing offer.

Does anyone know how much the services cost? I get different amounts depending on who I ask.

EX30 moving forward on its own when switching from Reverse to Drive?

Has anyone else had this happen?

A few times now when I’ve switched between Reverse and Drive, the car has started moving forward on its own without me touching the accelerator.

Creep forward is definitely turned off, so I’m not sure why it’s happening. It only seems to happen occasionally when changing direction.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, or is this normal behaviour in the EX30?

Update:
Thank you for all the comments about the seat belt. It was the seat belt! Explains why it’s only ever happened after I’ve parked and decided to correct my position - my seatbelt was off and I never noticed.

Next question, what’s the benefit of that feature when your seatbelt is off?

Squeaky metallic sound at low speed.

Hi, My 2025 SMER has been making a squeaky metallic sound (much like worn out brake pads) that matches the rotation of the tires at low speed (not while braking or OPD operation). Not 100% sure but I think it comes from the rear axle. It drives me crazy as it makes the car sound like an old neglected clunker, it happens from time to time and so far I have been unable to reproduce it at will. Got a dealership appointment for next Wednesday but I'm afraid they will think I'm delusional (you know how that works out).

Has anyone experienced a similar issue ?

My monthly 2 hour trip.

From Leiden to Heerlen. Estimated time at the start was 02:39. Did it in 02:11!

Started on 97% battery charge. Drove 140km/h for a good 80% of the trip.

Very satisfied with the car. My only annoyance is that in a corner/turn on the highway. The adaptive cruise control often does not correctly see that someone is not in my lane. But still it will brake and hesitate to pass by.

EDIT: I’ve got a 2026 SMER

Wipers noisy and skipping

My wipers on my 2025 are already worn? Shouldn't they last longer? They hop all over the windshield. I've cleaned them but it still occurs?

Is it a common issue?
