Housing question

I’m really torn on whether I should try to switch my housing assignment. Right now I’m assigned to an Alumni Hall quad, but I’m wondering if I should switch to a double instead.

The biggest thing making me question it is the price. The quad is about $2.5k more per semester, and I’m already planning on getting the most expensive meal plan to cut grocery costs. so I’d be paying extra for a kitchen I probably won’t use.

The double is appealing because it’s cheaper, has a bigger closet, and is more likely to be on a lower floor. The downside is that it doesn’t have AC, and I’d probably have to leave my current roommates and end up with someone random.

The Alumni quad comes with a private bathroom, but it has a smaller closet, it’s on a higher floor, and costs a lot more.

Right now I’m thinking my best option might be to stay in the quad for the first semester and see if I can switch to a double for the second if I feel it’s not worth the extra cost.

For anyone who’s lived in either, especially Alumni Hall, would you stick with the quad or save the money and go with the double? Do you regret your decision?

Senior in HS , Dream school is FIT. But I’m worried academically. Any advice?

Hi, ( I don’t usually use Reddit so please be kind to me lol) I’m class of 2027 and since my sophomore year I’ve been dreaming of being accepted into FIT to start my artistic career, but I’m not the best academically and a lot of that is due to my lack of smarts in the math department lol.

My gpa right now is a 2.3 and my SAT score was 980. Now I’ve heard of dream stories of people with damn near a 1.0 gpa getting in, but I’m blessed enough to have opportunities other people don’t. But I want to hear other people’s opinions on if I have a chance of getting in.

I’ve done multiple extra circular’s at school: I’ll be leading my dance and yearbook team next year. I’d also like to mention I’m a student council member and I’m a lead singer in the music club. I also have two people who are alumni of FIT that are willing to write me letters of recommendation.

I’d like to know if any of this is relevant in my chance of acceptance. (Aswell as a strong essay and portfolio of course because obviously they care about that too.)

Senior year will be my chance to pick up the slack I’ve had on my rough grades and hopefully raise my GPA back up before it’s too late, but as I said. Any advice, opinions, and thoughts would be helpful as a person with anxiety and who really would like to be a FIT student. Thank you all so much!

kaufman room Question

im honestly torn between the Kaufman Double occupancy apartment or the Triple in a Quad apartment style. Right now I have a double chosen with a random roommate but I am in a room that can potentially be tripled due to its size.

I'm really more into the costs. The double is 9k while the triple is 7.9k which is a bit above a 1k difference. It isnt much but is a triple in a quad worth saving 1k? I heard the triples in a quad are very small, but I honestly don't mind the sizes of the room.

The only issue i'm worried about is the bathrooms, since there is 4 people total are the bathrooms always crowded and interrupting morning routines and shower schedules? I also don't plan on cooking so the kitchen isn't a big issue for me, just a small space in the fridge and cabinet for snacks is all i need.

Also there is a possibility of befriending your roommates and kinda having a built in social group. i had a traditional double last year in nagler and didn't really befriend my roomate, so the chance of befriending the people in the quad is low. But i made no friends last year so i really would like to hopefully befriend my future roomate

[Question] Anyone want to join a casual Soccer Social Club for FIT students? (18+)

Hey everyone,

I know we are all super busy with studio time and projects, but I’m trying to start up a casual soccer social club to give us an excuse to get away from the desk, get some fresh air, and meet people from different majors.

It is strictly 18+ and totally beginner-friendly—no intense experience required, just looking to play some relaxed pickup games and hang out.

If you're an FIT student interested in playing or just socializing, drop a comment below or send me a DM! I'll be setting up a group chat so we can figure out the best parks, days, and times to meet up.

As an incoming freshman, should I get the Fashionista Meal Plan or Designer Meal Plan? #Advice #Dorming

Also, how long is cafeteria open? Is it open on weekends? I fear the Fashionista one will be too much food than necessary. I will be dorming in a traditional dorm at Nagler. Also I have morning classes and some classes don’t end until 2pm, so will I still be able to get lunch in time?

Advice on taking 6 (lecture) classes?

Hi!! I'm transferring into the Art History BS program in fall and I'm considering taking 6 classes but I'm worried the workload might too intense....I'm returning to school after a really long time and even though I have a previous BFA and a career, I'm so out of practice for things like papers and exams. I really don't want to completely overwhelm and stress myself and I don't have the stamina or desire to pull all-nighters anymore lmao but I feel like this specific schedule could be manageable maybe??? My first degree was in fashion design so I have traumatic memories of how hard that was that I don't want to repeat, I'm sure a lot of you understand that one....

I'm planning on 2 online classes French 1 (I already have some french knowledge) and a US history gen ed.

and then two museum lecture courses + modern art elective + traditional techniques in FA class (2 credits)

Will I be drowning in homework and reading??

In state tuition application

Hi! Quick question for anyone familiar with FIT residency decisions.
I submitted my NYS residency application and later received an email saying the only thing left to prove was my financial independence because I’m under 24. I asked if a letter from my employer would be enough, but I haven’t received a response.
What confuses me is that my FIT profile already shows “NYS Resident / Out of NYC.” (Why does it show “out of NYC” if i live in the city?)
Does that mean my residency was approved, or could it still be pending review?
