A Zombie lord that does more than just make the tribe bigger. Turning spare mana into another Zombie from the graveyard gives the deck something to do after the first wave has been dealt with.
Which Zombie do you most associate with this card?
Nothing too crazy but a couple of nice pickups for various decks and cube
For a while, I've been posting bits and pieces of my foils for a little project I've been working on: every foil legendary creature printed between 1998 and 2003. I chose this time frame specifically for the old frame being prevalent at the time, and it was a dream I wanted to achieve since I was a poor kid.
After 4 and a half years, it's done. Every single old-border legendary creature ever printed from Urza’s Saga (1998) up until Scourge (2003), in FOIL. There are 65 total unique Legends in this time frame, with two of them (Tahngarth and Ertai) having alternate arts.
[A quick FAQ]
>Why did you do this?
I started Magic in the Invasion block, and my first pack was from Invasion containing a Treva. While that particular card wasn’t foil, it was always my dream to own a foil copy one day.
I eventually built a EDH deck that was Bant Enchantress. Even though it was already supported and having its own precon, I stuck with Treva for sentimental reasons. Fast forward, I eventually got both a foil copy AND and the DCI Promo along with it.
It was there that everything snowballed into what it is today.
>How much did you pay for all of this?
That depends on your definition of “pay”. I gave myself a stipulation: only trade up. Most of the bulk I’ve garnered over the years, stacks and stacks of them, turned into most of what you see. The only time I broke this rule was with Akroma that I bought from tcgplayer for, at the time, 130 USD, purely as a birthday present to myself.
The Rith was also an actual purchase. See below for reasoning.
>What was the worst card to find?
The Squee and the Rofellos and it’s not even close.
>Did you find any good deals?
The Rith is MP, but it was listed in a very generous 5 USD. I do plan on upgrading this one in particular, but it looks good enough to be with the rest.
>Why isn’t Skyship Weatherlight on here despite having both copies of Tahngarth and Ertai?
Not a Legendary Creature. I do plan on picking up both foil copies at some point, but priorities dictate this first.
>Whats your next project?
Right now I’m foiling out a couple of personal EDH decks. I do plan on collecting every single legend from Legends to Urza’s Saga again (Barrin, Master Wizard, as far as I know, was not printed as a foil.) and getting every version of each available legend within that area.
>Do you run any of them as a Commander EDH deck?
Yes. Treva, Commander Eesha, Arcanis, Phage, Kamahl (red), Multani, Cromat, and Karn are all built and ready to go. Chainer is also going to be built as a “old border only” deck, and all of the other Primeval Dragons have their decklists ready and planned out.
>Can I buy one of the cards from this list?
You're buying the entire damn set if you want a single card from this pile.
Here’s the first foil printing of Dark Ritual, behind so many explosive first-turn plays from black decks.
Do you prefer this version or the original Alpha/Beta one?
Last night I asked about a box sitting off on a side shelf, turns out it’s filled with tons of non-English cards. Maybe 1,000 unsleeved uncared for cards but I did stumble upon these. They post all their cards online but these were not, it was clear they just tossed these cards in this box and had done so for years.
Anyone else miss going through bulk until you find hidden gems?
One mana in, any colour out, and a card back on the way. It looks almost irrelevant on the battlefield, but that combination of mana fixing and replacing itself has earned it a place in plenty of combo and artifact decks.
Which deck do you associate it with the most?
After starting the project almost 3 years ago today with the arrival of the last desert I’m pleased to announce I’ve completed the initial decklist of this pauper TurboFog deck.
I’m not chasing the decklist changes I’m more than good on how it came out to be
Still a lot to be done that you don’t see here, but this [[Omnath, Locus of Rage]] deck is one of my absolute favorites to play. My Mountains? Snowy. Forests? Dense and lush. My weird giant green blobs? Angry. Abundant.
Cards to power down my [[Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch]] deck for our pod while still feeling mean and pretty
Something have the Plains that I like idk, then o decided to collect few plains SLD and common and frame them
Just got both of these in today! Thought these were spicy enough to share.
These old foils hit so different, when actual thought was put into the layering.
I've been playing Kinnan for a while and during a trip to Tokyo I picked up this bad boys. Tried getting the serialized Springleaf Drum but couldn't find it, one of the last cards I'm looking for.
A small start is still a start.
The darker half of Invasion’s most obvious counterspell pairing. While Absorb buys you three life, Undermine takes three from your opponent, and it found a natural home as a four-of in Nether-Go.
Absorb or Undermine?
