[For Hire] Fiction, Fantasy, Game Content - Atmospheric Writer with a Background in Psychology ($0.10/word)

The song played low on the radio. The crackling sound a sweet companion to the blacktop ahead. The sun was a brilliant orange upon that blue horizon. Through a kaleidoscope window where the horizon stretched endless we drove on.

Hey, y'all. I am AshfallWrites!

I am a fiction and fantasy writer, specializing in the architecture of the surreal. My work focuses on giving characters meanings, on letting the plot breathe, letting the agenda build naturally as the story progresses. Unreliable narrators, existential dread, surreal loops of fiction, a love story that inhibits a world that feels like the town five miles down that dirt road at the end of the lane – I love creating worlds that people fall in love with. That people can curl up with, beside the hearth of a dying fire.

Portfolio & Past Work (along with ToS)here

THE OFFERS

  • Academia based Insights: As a researcher in life with a background in Psychology, I bring a clinical level of detail to mental states, trauma narratives, and characters that feel organic, real.
  • Atmospheric Prose: I prioritize mood and sensory world-building. I do not just write plots; but craft environments to linger in the subliminal.
  • Surrealist Edge with a Touch of Romance: Because let's be real, who does not yearn to immerse themselves in reality-bending concepts, where characters break time in order to save their chosen one, or even incur the pleasures of the flesh upon a moonlit edge of the Abyss.
  • Game Content (Quest & Lore): Wanna see your world expanded like Elden Ring, want players to be fully enthralled by a questline akin to the Baron's questline. Or maybe you're creating something truly unique and you want a writer who understands the importance great characters can have that translates your world into something grander (cought Silksong, Expedition 33 cough). Whatever the reason, however the need, I am there to help you!
  • World Bible: Want to see your world taking shape? I design intuitive and sprawling world bibles which would expand the rules of the universe you imagined! This includes aspects of the foundation of the story, such as: Core Mythos & Lore, the Sandbox (setting of the world), Factions and System Mechanics, and many more, all packaged into one highly accesible format.
  • Literary Pleasure Reading: Writing pieces of content that makes a reader blush pretty red on a train ride, or make them sigh in pleasure beside a fireside in a log cabin, I consider to be one of the most accomplished sentiments of mine as an author. Be it straight or LGBTQ+, I write for all.

PRICING

  • Short Stories (Fantasy/Fiction or Otherwise): $0.10/word (for a 1000 word story it would be $100).
  • Game Quest Design & Lore: Starting at $100.
  • Flash Fiction / Short Scenes: Starting at $20 (approx 400-500 words).
  • Deep-Dive World-Building Docs (1,500+ words): $150 / Inquire for custom project rates.
  • Custom: DM me if you have some custom requests or specific criteria you want in your stories.

(Note: Base rates include up to 1 round of major & 2 rounds of minor revisions).

Working part-time during a fully-funded program?

Hi all! I'm 28, I've gone back and forth on whether to pursue an MFA for years, and I think I'm reaching the conclusion that I do, indeed, want to apply (to fully-funded programs).

However, the stipends alone (particularly those under $25K, which seems to be most of them) just aren't going to work at this point in my life. I would love to hear from people who did other part-time work (or full-time!) on the side still.

How manageable was it? Were you miserable?

Edit to add: My "day job" is freelance copywriting, so I work remotely.

Has anyone else lost a client to a "this looks like AI" accusation you couldn't disprove?

A detector spits out a number, the client believes it, and there's no way to prove you actually wrote the thing yourself. It's happening to good writers who never touched a model.

I've been building something around a different idea: that the process of writing has a signature a generated draft doesn't. Uneven rhythm, real pauses for thought, going back to rework a clumsy sentence. That could be captured as proof of authorship, and it only records timing, never your words.

Honest question before I take it further: would proof like that actually help you with clients, or is "having to prove you're human" a fight we shouldn't have to fight at all?

Looking for writers for a new app (YOU!)

Hey all!

I’ve always loved Wattpad. It’s where I discovered so many amazing writers. But I kept wishing there was a place where stories could do a little more than just text.

So I built one.

Loreum is a new reading and writing app that just launched (yesterday!). Stories can include sounds, images, videos, choices, and other interactive elements. The goal is simply to explore what storytelling can become on a phone.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Stories in all genre (romance, fantasy, thriller)
  • Very short chapters if possible (100-300 words)
  • Immersive elements if possible (on Loreum you can add images, sounds, even choices to your stories!)

No pressure to write a huge novel either. A chapter can be 100–300 words. One fun experiment is enough.

And yes, creators can apply for monetization directly in the app. I personally review every application in less than 24 hours.

If you’re curious, I’d genuinely love to see what you create. Happy to answer any questions here too. 💌

American Fallout Scriptwriter Wanted ASAP

so I'm hiring for something kinda specific right now and figured I'd throw it out there

I need American scriptwriters, like actual native English speakers based in the US, to write scripts for YouTube videos about Fallout, we're talking 10-30 minute videos diving into the lore, characters, factions, mysteries, all that good stuff that the community is into

this isn't a "knows Fallout exists" type gig, you gotta be an actual fan, someone who's put hours into the games and gets the humor and the vibe of it, cause the scripts need personality and jokes and storytelling, not some robotic wikipedia summary, and definitely no AI-generated scripts, we'll know, trust me

for reference on the style we're going for, check these out:
https://youtu.be/MPfyh5Nw4dU?si=2G9FiaiJblrmb03H
https://youtu.be/v91V5GJJsxw?si=agQCLcJO32vGt695

requirements real quick, gotta be based in the United States, native English speaker, dedicated Fallout fan with solid knowledge of the franchise, good at deep research and fact-checking, strong storytelling with personality and humor, high availability with fast turnaround, and your grammar needs to be on point

pay is $15 per 100 words, and on top of that we also do a referral bonus, $50 for every writer you refer that ends up getting hired, so once you're in, you're more than welcome to post about the gig yourself and have people apply through you, and whoever applies mentioning you, you get that $50 per person, pretty solid way to stack a little extra on the side ngl

now please don't send some generic copy-paste application, I'll know and I'll skip right past it lol, to actually be considered send me:

1-2 writing samples that are similar in style to those reference channels, your typical turnaround time for a 4,000 word script, a quick rundown of how you do your research process, your favorite Fallout game and why (curious to see what people say here ngl), and your current location, city and state

if you're interested and want a quick response, add me on Discord: ymagic.hiring

drop your stuff in the comments or DM me too, looking forward to seeing what y'all got

How much to charge as a newbie?

I got my first potential client and was planning on charging like 12 to 15 dollars for 1000 words. As I won't be using any ai assistance (my selling point) for writing or researching, I wanna charge accordingly. Is this fine or not?

[For Hire] Fiction, Fantasy, Game Content - Atmospheric Ghostwriter with a Background in Psychology ($0.10/word)

'The man in the field of corpses has got his heart broken twice now. Has lived a great age, and is destined to live a greater one. There are many realities waiting for him, on that rise over the horizon. The setting sun streams in buttery soft glows. The man raises his hands, upturned towards the heaven - in benediction, in absolution - and brings them down hard - in desolation. The light winks out as absolute darkness sets in. The last of the dying light reflecting off the blood matted in the man’s hair.'

How do you prove your content is driving SEO results?

I'm a freelance content writer and I'm finding that more and more clients want proof that my blog posts are actually helping their SEO. I provide the content, but I feel like I'm at the mercy of their web developers and SEO managers to actually get it optimized correctly and promoted. I can write a great copy, but if the site has technical issues or no backlink strategy, the post isn't going to rank.

I'm trying to expand my services to offer a bit of content strategy or SEO consultation to prove my value. I want to be able to show clients that my content isn't just words on a page, but it's driving traffic. Does anyone have a process for this? Do you get access to their analytics, or do you just have to hope they come back for more work?
