Off-Campus Housing

I’m coming into FSU in the fall as a transfer for Neuroscience and was wondering what some good off-campus housing options would be. I’m aware I’m pretty late to the party but live and learn. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Incoming freshman - Schedule Advice

I’m an incoming freshman at FSU with my AA degree already completed. I already have all of my gen eds done and 6 out of the 8 nursing prerequisites completed. The main classes I still need are Anatomy & Physiology I and II.

I’ve heard mixed things about the A&P professor at FSU, so I was thinking about taking them through the FAMU co-op/transient program instead. I’m also interested in adding a criminology/criminal justice minor and looking to take prerequisites for that and possibly OT school after graduating.

Right now, I’m trying to plan my fall schedule before orientation, but a lot of classes already look closed.

Do advisors at orientation usually help students get into needed classes, or once a class is closed, is it basically over? Also, has anyone taken A&P through the FAMU co-op/transient program?

Any advice would really help!

FSU vs UW Madison

Where should I go to College! FSU or UW Madison?

I was recently admitted to FSU off of the waitlist and was given 48 hours to decide.

I’m from Wisconsin and already committed to UW Madison for next fall.

FSU was my dream school before I got waitlisted.

But now going to Wisconsin seems like a great idea and I have everything set for next year.

Both schools are the same exact price.

I’m hoping to Major in Finance and/or Accounting

University of Wisconsin–Madison
Pros
Feels like “home”
Massive alumni network, especially in Wisconsin/Chicago but also world wide
Strong overall reputation nationally
Classic Big Ten college experience
Incredible social life, sports, traditions, and school spirit
I really like Madison
Easier travel/home logistics
Great outcomes if I get into the business school
I already have a roommate and dorm set up for next year

Cons
No direct admission to the Wisconsin School of Business
Need to apply later internally and only 1 chance
Freshman-year pressure to maintain strong grades
Its frustrating watching direct admits get ahead, and I tried to appeal and they said no to direct admission
Risk that you don’t get into business later
Very liberal and I have more Christian and conservative values
Cold and I’ve always dreamed of going somewhere warm like Florida.
I get bad seasonal depression in the winter

Florida State University
Pros
Direct admission into Finance already secured
No stress about internal transfer into business
Warm weather, palm trees, sunshine
New environment/adventure
Strong social scene and school spirit
Strong placement in Florida/Southeast
Would helps me grow independently
I loved the campus when I visited
More Conservative there

Cons
I may not be able to get on campus housing freshman year.
I don’t have a roommate and know absolutely no one going, so I may feel lonely for a bit
Far from home
I haven’t spent much time there
I may have romanticized it a bit
Less prestigious and connected nationally
Harder travel logistics
Could feel isolating at first being far away
I didn’t really love the surrounding area around Tallahassee just campus

Has anyone successfully found someone to take over their lease using Zublet or posting in Facebook groups? Which other websites should I try?

how hard is it to break a lease for an apt here?

i want to try and get out of my lease so that i can live somewhere cheaper despite my apartment being so close to campus. how hard is it? i’m like 90% sure it’s going to be impossible because i feel like they make these college leases impossible to break but i wanted to know if anyone has any experience with it

Parents’ weekend or game the following weekend?

We’re trying to decide if we should visit our freshman on parents weekend at the end of September, taking in all the activities and a football game, or visit the following weekend and see a game.

Any experience on this?

Are the scheduled activities on parents weekend worth it for the outrageous hotel prices? Or should we make our own weekend/game out of it the following weekend?

Central Arkansas is the first game and Virginia is the next one.

And it’s not as if the hotel prices for the Virginia game are reasonable either, just less than parents weekend.

Thanks for your input.

fsu bachelors -> fsu law school?

i was wondering if attending fsu for my bachelors would make it more likely for me to be accepted afterwards into the fsu law school?
i’m not too keen on getting my bachelors at fsu just because it’s a bit more pricey than what i wanted, and im definitely not into parties or sports/football. i’m pretty sure i could get accepted into fsu for my bachelors since some friends with similar stats have, but honestly ill try to get in if it makes law school admissions easier.

does anyone have any insight on this side of things? thanks for the help :))

application rescinded??

i got into FSU for fall 2026 and i am very excited!! however, this year i've had multiple familial and mental health issues, resulting in an academic decline. all of my highschool credits have been A's, with an occasional B here and there. but this year, i'm taking multiple aice and ap classes along with 3 classes online via flvs. i got 2 C's for semester one, one being in ap calc and the other in aice lit. this semester, im projected to have a C in ap calc and a C in aice lit again. those are grad requirements for me so i made sure to get the grades to at least C's. however, im taking aice global perspectives which is required to earn the aice diploma. i don't need the aice diploma and the class is not a grad requirement, but im projected to get a C or POSSIBLY a D. will i get my offer immediately rescinded for having a D? and if i get a C will i have to reach out to office of admissions? just looking for help because i am not sure how to navigate this situation :(

FSU FYA Program; Is it worth it and what would I potentially miss out on?

Hey, I'm an incoming freshman admitted OOS to FSU for the Fall semester. As is, FSU has a much more reasonable OOS tuition, roughly 8-10k more per year than my in-state school here in Maryland. If I had to, I could make it work somewhat comfortably, I'd work a job for most personal expenses, and tuition+board would be covered by the parents, so nothing crazy. But with the FYA program, I'd be able to reduce the tuition to around 6.5k a year, I think it is.

The thing is, I don't need in-state tuition to attend, as is I am perfectly in decent financial standing to attend and go through FSU in four years. But by doing so, I'd save close to 50k while also having a great experience in Europe for my first year, and that type of money would make my parents' lives more than mine a whole lot easier. Basically, I don't have to do this out of pure need; I can afford to attend FSU OOS, but by doing so it would greatly help my parents and my brother, who is attending college in two years.

My only worry with the program is missing out on freshman year entirely. Friends, social life, networking (I'm a finance major, so for some of the exclusive clubs sophomore year-ish), potentially rushing a frat, and all the details of freshmen year that make it unique. I would still have friends in Europe and make some lasting relationships there, but if anyone could give me input and advice, and if anyone has done this, please let me know how it went.

Apartment advice

I'm looking for an apartment around $500 a month. Just needs to get the job done but preferably without a roach infestation. I've been looking at Townhomes, The Capitol, and Semiole Trails. Any advice on those or other apartments to look at? I have a car so driving I don't mind busing or living 10-15 min away from campus.

Not me, but a friend is having an issue

Hey everyone. So I didn’t know really what to do or who to ask. My friend is trying to send over transcripts from PBSC to FSU using parchment. And NOTHING is working. It keeps saying transaction declined. And trust me when I say we tried everything, hell I got on my phone and tried paying for it instead, it just won’t budge. You can’t email yourself the transcripts or send it to FSU. He tried talking to both schools and parchment and literally they aren’t doing anything. Is there any other options? I tried looking for a subreddit specifically for the parchment website, and I couldn’t find one (maybe I didn’t look hard enough?) but thanks guys!!

FSU track team

Question about the track team. My son is an incoming freshman. He is 6'1 150lbs and runs a 10.7 100m

22.3 200m

He LG 6.45m but only jumped 3 times in high school. He's SunSentinel All County 1st team for the 100 and 200. He also went to states in florida for the 100,200 and 4x400.

Does he have a decent shot to walk on? Who can he contact to start to maybe work with the team in the off season? He's not looking for a scholarship or anything. He's covered academically. He also received his AA in high school if that matters and is the team captain of the track team at his high school.

Thanks

Dual degree/double major is doable??

Incoming freshman and I really wanna get one of the above in Neuroscience and Linguistics and I’m a little scared it won’t be doable as someone on the pre-med track. I don’t want to be taking 17 credits per semester (I need minimum 15) as I’ll also be volunteering, doing research, working, etc, but I really want to do both majors.

Input??

Schedule Advice!

Hello! I’m an incoming freshman majoring in Cell and Molecular Neuroscience, and I’ve been trying to map out a potential schedule/4-year plan based on my major requirements and pre-med prereqs. I’m also in the Honors and Honors Med programs, and I’m really interested in pursuing Honors in the Major research since I know it usually requires multiple semesters of involvement before graduation.

I’m mainly looking for advice on things like:

  • whether the course sequencing makes sense (credit-wise too!)
  • how manageable certain classes are together,
  • recommendations for professors/classes,
  • and any suggestions for balancing research, pre-med requirements, and honors opportunities.

I already completed my A.A. degree, so most of my general education requirements are done except for the courses included in the plan.

I’d appreciate any tips or feedback before orientation!

Possible to get a dorm as a junior transfer?

Hi. I just got in as a junior transfer a few days back, and I would like to go to FSU but worried a bit with the housing. Do you guys think I have a realistic chance of getting a dorm? Or should I just not even try that and go right for off campus housing? What off campus dorms would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

FSU Next Program

I’m very confused on what classes I need to take at TSC in the fall to still be eligible to transfer to FSU in the spring. Here are the requirements for the program I’m doing:

FSU Next Program Requirements

Enroll and successfully complete a minimum 12 semester hours of graded coursework at Tallahassee State College in the fall.

Earn a minimum 3.0 fall term grade point average (GPA) with no grade below a C at TSC.

Earn a grade of "Satisfactory" in the in-person, one credit hour "Gateway to Garnet and Gold" course at FSU in the fall.

Complete ENC 1101 (English Composition) and either MAC 1105 (College Algebra, preferred math), MGF 1130 (Mathematical Thinking), or MGF 1131 (Mathematics in Context) depending on math placement and the major's math requirement, unless comparable or higher-level course credit through AICE, AP, CLEP, IB and/or dual enrollment has been earned.

I already have 50 credits from dual enrollment, which includes ENC1101, ENC1102, and math courses up to pre calc. Based off of these requirements could I just take whatever classes? Looking at the academic map from FSU I’ve already taken all the recommended classes for the first term besides Calculus which I plan to take if the class isn’t full. Is it recommended that I take easier classes this semester? But also on that note I feel like I already took a majority of the easier classes with dual enrollment. Any advice would be helpful.
