> A Texas appeals court on Thursday tossed out an injunction against a Houston-area midwife accused of providing illegal abortions, saying Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office hasn’t presented any direct evidence that she violated the state’s ban.

> The ruling by the all Republican Texas 15th Court of Appeals said a lower court’s decision to temporarily shut down Maria Rojas’ clinics “abused its discretion,” and that the state’s case relied on “probable-cause” affidavits centering on an anonymous email.

> Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's real estate holdings were already a political mess. Not only has the Republican been accused of using an address where he did not live while voting in recent elections, he also has faced allegations that he and his estranged wife declared three separate homes as their primary residence in mortgage documents — a practice that his party has, in other situations, characterized as an outrageous abuse.

> His 2026 opponent, Democratic state Rep. James Talarico, recently told MS NOW's Jen Psaki, "Since taking office, Ken Paxton has now become a multimillionaire, while our pay has remained stagnant for years, for decades. He now owns 11 homes, while most Texans can't afford one." MaddowBlog published a fact-check report last week that largely confirmed Talarico's claim: Paxton, either in his personal capacity or through the trust that oversees his assets, owns five homes in Texas, three in Florida, two in Utah and one in Oklahoma. (Publicly available materials also point to a Paxton-owned lot in Hawaii, although there does not appear to be any structure on the property.)

> Although it seems hard to believe, it now appears that Talarico understated matters.

> When asked by a reporter how it felt to see his love life become fodder for internet discussion, Talarico offered a broader reflection on the state of political discourse. 

> "This is what people hate about politics," Talarico said in a short clip posted to X Sunday afternoon. "I signed up to run for the U.S. Senate. My girlfriend did not. My family members did not."

> "Ken Paxton is throwing everything he has at us. He's called me a radical leftist. He's called me a fake Christian. He's even called me a vegan!" Talarico posted to X on Thursday. "I'm an 8th generation Texan—I've been eating BBQ since before Ken Paxton's first indictment." 

> Last month, Attorney General Ken Paxton waded into the explosive college football saga involving Brendan Sorsby, the Texas Tech University quarterback who had admitted to placing thousands of improper sports bets, including on his own team’s games, resulting in the NCAA declaring him ineligible to play.

> In a June 11 letter, Paxton’s office warned the Big 12 Conference on behalf of Texas Tech that any move to sanction the university for fielding Sorsby would be “unlawful” and potentially expose it to $200 million in damages.

> One day before he sent that letter, Texas Tech Board of Regents Chair Cody Campbell, one of Sorsby’s most public defenders, donated $274,300 to a fundraising committee supporting Paxton in his bid for U.S. Senate, according to campaign finance records newly filed with the Federal Election Committee Wednesday.

> After months of mudslinging in Texas' increasingly bizarre U.S. Senate race, Attorney General Ken Paxton is challenging his Democratic opponent to settle one debate over lunch.

> Ken Paxton, President Donald Trump's scandal-plagued pick in the Texas Senate race, boasted that more than 700 people turned out for his first and only campaign rally — but got fact-checked on the real number of attendees.

> In a post on X, Paxton's campaign had claimed 763 people were at the event.

> But according to myRGV.com, the location has a building occupancy of only 150 to 200 people.

> The case involved a 49-year-old lawyer, Adam Dean Hoffman, who was accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a young boy for years. As The Texas Tribune, The Texas Newsroom and KWBU reported in May, court records showed that the case ended in a mistrial, and the victim refused to testify for a second time, severely curtailing prosecutors’ options.

> Hoffman, as part of the plea deal, admitted to molesting the victim and surrendered his law license. The details of the deal sparked a public outcry, prompting protests outside the local courthouse, and gaining national attention.

> The family, for their part, has also spoken publicly about the case, through spokespeople, and joined state Rep. Jeff Leach and Pat Curry in a May news conference, also outside the McLennan County Courthouse.

> Leach read a statement from the mother of the victim who called the agreement with Hoffman a “sweetheart deal” and said “Ken Paxton must be held accountable.” She did not explicitly call on voters to support Cornyn. Dieterich that day said Paxton “does not deserve a promotion to the U.S. Senate.”
