Morning everyone. This is my 2006 FZ6 I got as my first bike around 7 years ago. I used it for three years to daily commute and I've put 28000 miles on it now.

It's now just a toy for weekend fun and I don't think I'll ever need another bike. 100hp, plenty of torque and a screaming 14000 rpm is perfect.

I now want to refresh and do a light restore on the bike and I'm after some advice.

Firstly there is a buzzing non typical Yamaha tick sound especially when the bike is warm and I can't work out of its Alternator or Timing Chain tensioner related. Secondly the exhaust headers are very rusty now and the bolts are in very bad condition. How much am I looking at for new downpipes and gasket etc as I don't trust myself to try remove this one.

What are some tasteful mods you have all done? I've ordered a tail tidy and some led indicators and rear light already.

Hi all, wondering if anyone can help. I’m trying to get power to a carplay unit and not sure how to achieve this.

I’ve heard it’s best to connect to a switched live like the headlight or brake light or horn so it doesn’t risk draining the battery but not sure where to even start.

Would it be easier to connect a USB charger and just use that for the carplay power supply? Any help is appreciated

Considering going the XJ6N route but will enjoy it for a bit. Very excited! Any mods you guys recommend?

Long story short, when I turn the key the bike didn’t prime (fuel pump whirly noise*) after first checking the fuses than taking the tank off, I tested the two terminals going to the fuel pump. The white one worked everytime I tested, showing around 11v. While the green one, didn’t work 2/4 times, I’m guessing the green one is the one that primes, as it would show 12 volts for about 3 seconds than go out everytime. I set the tank back on, turned the key, and sure enough, it primed and started right up.
Now, where should I start to make sure this doesn’t happen again? Would it be worth replacing the terminal and or wires? Or am I better off putting it back together before I break something?
This seems to be a faulty wire, although there is no visible damage. Kinda like when your phone charger breaks and you need to hold it at a certain angle to charge.

I went to the garage for a tireswap and they told me that it was running on 3 cylinders. When I drove home, it felt indeed if it lost power, especially on the low rpm's.

I opened everything up for the first time in my life to check the ignitioncoils and the sparkplugs. They all seemed fine and had the right resistance.

While working on that, my eye fell on a hose with a hole in it. It was a capped vacuumhose coming from the throttle body. By further inspection, I saw another one was teared as well.

My question is, could this be the issue why they told me that it was running on only 3 cylinders or should I dig deeper?

I ordered new hoses so I'm going to fix that anyway but im wondering if I can close everything up after that or should I look further now everything is open already?

Feel like throwing it in the dumpster , change the handlebars and put the new throttle and everything on and now the bike literally won’t start but all of the electronics work, but it just keeps trying to start and will not. I’ve adjusted the throttle on the handlebar and still nothing it started up beautifully with the new exhaust, but now I don’t know what to do. Do I look at the throttlebody and how do I even reset or fix the idol? Idk man shits frustrating . This is my first bike and I really just wanted to work. I’ve been putting in crazy amounts of hours on it.

Hi everyone,

I was just working on the tail of my 2009 FZ6 S2 Fazer and found these two unused connectors under the left rear fairing. One of them even still has the foam plugs inside, so I assume it was installed at the factory.

Can anyone tell me anything about these connectors? Could one of them be a power connector for accessories? That would be awesome!

Polish came in this morning and works great !!! Just a little polishing today and took off old exhaust and the whole back end :) more to come !

Any advice on how to get the black spots off the exhaust ? Can I sand it ? If so what grit

This video is wide open throttle rev. After about 20 seconds of that sound it will eventually rev up fully but won’t bounce on limiter

Finished up getting the tank off, which was a pretty easy process because the fuel pump is apparently on the inside of the tank so it wasn’t too difficult not even a single drop leaked onto the ground. Was able to catch everything with a paper towel. I’ll be wet sanding this weekend and then priming and then wet sanding again and then applying that really cool grey from the concept photo I made:)

Wet sanded all the primer and we have our color on all of our plastics and tank:) can’t wait till the 2K satin automotive topcoat gets here!!!

I sanded everything with 400 then did two coats of primer. Used a little bit of that rainwater to wet sand outside😂 and then I finished off using my spray bottle, but I’ll come back tomorrow and wet sand the primer because I did do a few few coats on areas where there were scratches and imperfections so that when I go to wet sand the primer that should just disappear:)

Hey! I have a 2006 in the sort of dark cherry red color. I was wondering if anyone knew a paint code or where u can source a stick for a couple of touch ups on my tank.

2k satin top coat (apparently needed so that the gas doesn’t eat away and crinkle the paint. The first time it touches the tank.)
