Z Flip phone screen is dead due to a torn hinge cable.

Just in case you have a Z Flip phone and wonder why the screen isnt working.

The video shows an older model Flip phone but the ribbon hinge cable is almost identical in size and location to my Flip 7.

FF to the 15:40 mark to see the amount of dust on the internal hinges.
FF to the 20:00 mark to see the cracked cable

This is the most likely reason for screen failures assuming the screen wasn't damaged for other reasons.

Samsung's official rating is 200,000 folds for the Z Flip 7 under typical conditions. Whatever that means. This may work in a dust free lab but in a real environment like your pant pocket or purse; its a pipe dream.

Many people have had Samsung deny a warranty claim. Hopefully this will help shed some light on the issue and get you further along.

Where to purchase Z Flip 7?

Preface to say: I am not a frequent redditor or tech consumer in general. I am sure I'm lacking some major know-how!

I've had a refurbished Z Flip 4 for over 3 years now, and just recently dinged the screen. Given it's now more expensive to replace the screen than buy a whole new Z Flip 4, I would like to upgrade to the 7. I love the flip, it's a great fit for me. But, I'm having a hard time finding somewhere reputable to purchase a new, unlocked model. Preferably the lower storage, as I havent even used up the 128 G on my 4. I'd love the coral colorway, but at this point I'm not picky.

I'm fine with a refurbished model- most of my tech is secondhand. But even the refurbished options are extremely slim...

Bestbuy is claiming none in stock, samsung's site is saying they only have a couple colors in the higher storage option, which is unappealing budget-wise and color-wise... so, if anyone has any advice or a recommendation on which shopping platform I should check, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks, y'all.

Heat dissipation tips when using android auto?

I bought myself a Z Flip 5 around january 2024 and so far it's been the best phone I had. 0 screen issues aside of having to change the screen protector film once a year (it would peel from the middle).

However I have started using android auto after discovering my car has such function and ever since I've been using it I realized my phone would get hot. Very hot. Left it out of my pocket while driving in case that'd help something but so far no change.

Now with the recent temperatures being constant 42/43ºC (110ºF) and despite the AC being on, my phone gets so hot that either it become laggy, can't touch it for a while or straight up tells me that it's overheating and I can't open any application.

I'm thinking on removing the plastic case and using it without but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Is there maybe a case that is much better at dissipating heat perhaps? Any tip on what can I do?

Thanks in advance

Edit: Just in case, I mean using the phone after driving. Not while I'm driving.

Need help making a phone decision from a current IPhone user.

Hi, I am currently an iPhone 16 user who wants to make a switch to Samsung (actually had a S10+ in the past before the screen turned green and I couldn’t use it anymore). I am deciding between either waiting for the Z Flip 8 or just getting the S26 Ultra. However, from what I’ve heard people say about the Z Flips is that the camera quality is terrible, is that true? Also, when sending videos/images to iPhone users through regular messages, and vice versa, does the camera quality come out blurry? That was my experience when I had the S10+ even though the phone itself was great.

Another thing, are there any setbacks on certain apps because they are catered more to iPhones than Android software? For example, when posting pictures on Instagram or something, does Instagram diminish the quality?

Lastly, can you guys say the pros and cons of the Z Flip and if you think I should wait for it? I think it comes out this month right? And if there are any S26 users could you also give some pros and cons?

Does anyone use the Flex Mode?

Hey guys, so I just discovered this feature (after a year and a half using a z flip 6😅) and I have been trying to find a use for it because it's really cool but it still feels kinda pointless to me. And I DO NOT MEAN THE PHONE FLEXED, that's useful for pics, split screen, etc, I mean that weird-cool-cutesy mouse pad, does anyone actually use it?

(I couldn't take a pic of my own phone, so I picked a photo from the internet for reference)

Would this be worth it?

I know the Flip 8 is coming out soon and I just got a flip 7 from verizon, they offer a "flex upgrade" thingy where if you pay off a certain amount (33% of the phones retail cost I think) you're eligible to upgrade your phone. I think the flex upgrade add on costs 10 bucks a month extra? Not sure but if it is would it be worth it to upgrade to a Flip 8 soon? Or should I just skip the flex upgrade option and stick with my Flip 7

Need tips so buyers remorse doesn't devour me

I REALLY want to like the z flip, I just got it and put it in a wallet case I thought would be good because it's padded and protects the hinge... but how tf is this supposed to fit in my pocket in a good case?? Like when I run i keep my phone in my leggings pocket, but this is BULKY folded up in this case and the slimmer cases feel too flimsy. Even the more 'tactical' style case i ordered looks like it's going to be bulky

Am I overdoing my protection? The hinge cover on this thing also stinks, so im open to case recs.

Samsung seriously needs to improve durability

This phone has been carried in a pocket dedicated exclusively to the phone - no keys, no coins, nothing. Yet somehow, the back panel ended up looking like this.

Coming from the S24 Ultra, I'm honestly shocked and disappointed. It feels like this thing scratches if you just look at it the wrong way.

At this point, my biggest question it's what phone to buy next. No idea to be honest.

Kinda torn/in a dilemma

Ive had a flip since the flip 3 first released and then upgraded to the flip 6

Unfortunately, the flip 6 i have is reaching its abuse limit from me lol..

Tmobile accidentally hasnt billed me for phone insurance the past 6 months (long story). I called if there was a way i could fix this or get my device repaired since it's not my fault, and they offered me $830 credited towards a phone upgrade instead. The 8 is about to release, so getting a flip 7 seemed a little unreasonable to be stuck with, and i also didn't like how much slimmer it was at all (or the colors). Its very rounded and thin compared to the previous flips so I ended up telling them ill take an s26 ultra instead, since i liked the stylus and privacy screen feature, but the "green line" issue worries me.

My main concern here is, did anyone else switch off a flip and regret it or did u end up liking it? Was the better battery life or capabilities of the other phone better and made u happy with your choice?

Im having second thoughts about my choice after thinking of all the different ways i used my flip (especially for long exposure photos of the sky at certain angles) , but i dont know if i can justify having a flip 7 for the next 2 years if i didnt like the design..

Anyone else have this issue?

I got a Z Flip 7 a few weeks ago and I noticed that dirt and dust LOVE to build up in between the back panel (both back panels) and the body of the phone and it's near impossible to clean up and or I don't know what tools I need to clean it up, any suggestions would be appreciated

Flip 7 crazy slow charging after OneUI 8.5 update

I noticed recently that my Z Flip 7 had been charging more slowly than it used to. I thought about it a little and it seemed like this didn't happen until after the 8.5 update. Prior to that, it was never the fastest charger at 25w anyway but now it's even worse. I notice the phone often gets pretty warm when it's charging, even with the exact same cables as I was using before. Sometimes it gets so bad that the battery even goes down when it's plugged in. A few days ago it took like 2-2½ hours to charge from 45% to 100%, which is just ridiculous. Has anyone else encountered this issue with theirs or is it my phone in particular?

Zflip 7 durability

Very surprised with the durability of the flip 7. A friend and I each got them on launch and he has not used a case or a screen protector and I've seen him drop it on concrete more times than I would like to have leaving it on his lap and stepping out the work truck, the single green pixel has been like that for about 4 months(closed it on something) but it has not gotten any worse. The durability has definitely been better than I expected just thought I would share for people seeing how it holds up

flip 5 external display glass problem

so I fiddled around with the phone and felt with my fingernail that the glass of the external display was not flush and/or even.

pressed it firmly now it is in place. Can I superglue it carefully?

I want to move to this phone as it works really good and battery life is decent for a 150€ phone. For the record, my main device is a iphone air and the flip is the secondary but in 4-5 days I have to change my esim again and decided to main the flip and if everythings is smooth I will eventually sell both phones to get a Flip8 when it releases.

Z flip 7 after 11 Months

Green Line Suddenly Appeared, no fall, no water damage. Last Updated to June Security Patch on 26-June.

The horizontal liine is slighty above the crease, screen protector around the crease is completely fine, the screen protector has lifted off exactly parallel to the horizontal line. This gets me into thinking is the screen protector stress caused the damage?

Green line appeared today on 1st July.

Update on 2-July: Went to the authorised samsung service center, they diagnosed and said it was caused due to the screen protector lift off.

It will be repaired free of cost they will replace everything except cover screen and motherboard.

Basically entirely a new frame with main display, new hinge, new batteries.

9 Flip Launcher — new update, and I’d love to hear your feedback

Over the last few days, I received a lot of useful feedback from you. Some of it was feature requests, some of it was bug reports and some of it was honest criticism.

So I tried to turn those requests into real improvements in the latest version.

What’s new:

  • Samsung Dual App icons are now supported
  • Favorite apps, also known as pinned apps, are easier to manage
  • You can now create, remove, and manage app groups
  • You can show or hide groups from Group Manager
  • DeX action has been added to Control Center (Z Flip 7+)
  • The Quick Menu action bar can now be placed at the top or bottom

I also removed the old Group / Flat layout option because many people found it confusing. Now, app groups can be managed more directly by long-pressing an app or a group.

A small note about Widget Launcher: it is still technically limited, especially for long-press actions and animations. For now, I’m using it mainly to mirror the Quick Launcher layout as closely as possible.

Next, I’m planning to work on:

  • Search app
  • Dragging / reordering app icons
  • More improvements based on your feedback

Software is never perfect. Bugs, fixes, and updates are part of how an app grows. So if you have a request, a bug report, or even a complaint, please feel free to share it.

I’ll keep listening, sorting the requests, and improving 9 Flip Launcher step by step.
If possible, please share how you use it or post your setup. I’d love to see it. Thank you!

Thank you for helping shape the app.
