Turning League Champs into E7 Heroes: Gangplank (Day 8)

Hey everyone, as an avid enjoyer of both League and Epic Seven, I’ve asked myself what if League had a collab with Epic Seven? I’ve been writing down my ideas for a *LONG* time, so I have decided to start a series where I finally post my theorycrafts. I don’t have exact stats and numbers figured out, so take them with a grain of salt and assume they’re basically relative to a full build version of the champ with most popular items.

For Day 8, I’m posting the champ that one of my friends likes to play: GP

**Hero Info**
> Class: Thief
> Element: Fire
> Constellation: Cancer

- S1: Parley!
> Gangplank shoots his flintlock pistol at an enemy, applying a Burn for 2 turns. A critical strike penetrates defense by 35% and ignores effect resistance. If the caster has Barrel, grants the caster increased speed for 1 turn before dealing additional damage to all enemies, consuming all Barrel stacks. Additional damage dealt penetrates defense by 50% and increases with the number of Barrel stacks consumed and the caster’s attack, critical hit chance, and critical hit damage.

- S2: Powder Keg
> Active: Gangplank plants a barrel near the enemy, granting himself increased speed for 1 turn and the unique effect “Barrel,” before increasing combat readiness by 30%. Barrel stacks up to 5 times. No cooldown.
> Passive: if the caster falls below 35% hp or is immobilized at the beginning of the caster’s turn, the caster consumes a citrus fruit, cleansing all debuffs and healing. Healing increases with the caster’s attack. This skill can be used even when the caster is immobilized. 3 turn cooldown.
> Barrel: Kaboom? Yes, kaboom.

- S3: Cannon Barrage
> Gangplank calls down several waves of cannon strikes over an area, damaging and inflicting Slow on all enemies for 2 turns. Increases Speed of all allies for 2 turns. A successful hit will deal 5000 fixed damage. Cannot trigger a critical strike or a counterattack. Gain an extra turn.
> Cooldown: 6 turns

- Artifact: The Collector
> Thief exclusive
> Increases critical hit chance by 25%. Additional, fixed, or burn damage dealt by the caster that would bring the enemy’s health below 5-10% executes them. The caster gains 5% increased speed for every enemy executed this way.

What made you main gangplank?

Is it true that Gangplank is one of the more mechanically difficult champions to play? I heard he is the 4th hardest but I don't know if that is true?

I picked GP into Darius one day because i was told as long as i act hyper respectful(scarredy cat in lane) and just farm until ER...so i did just that and I proceeded to stomp lane so hard I got full build within 24 minutes... I feel like I connected with this champ so synergistically to the point where it just felt natural.

I already have 120k Mastery just through the years of regularly playing this game(Started in season 4) but now I think I want to pick him up and learn how to be a great GP.

Why does he feel so naturally...I don't want to say easy but I feel like he's right up my alley? Easy to understand how kit perhaps.

None of the enemies realizes I'm dropping barrels in team fights until 80% of their health bar goes *poof* all I do is take a backdoor like an ADC and drop barrels on heads.. gangplank just feels so natural to me.

I've been running DFT+inspiration(boots and biscuits) and it feels almost natural.

I am usually finding that after ER+Collector I buy 2-3X cloaks of agility to fortify my damage early on(before 20) and naturally farm them into items and that seems to be my bread and butter. What do you do?

This isn't just one game but a great many of them I am finding big Ws in games with myself having a large lead.

What can I do to improve my gangplank? I have been watching Solarbacca and he has taught me the intricacies on barrel mechanics and timers, but I am still wondering what I can do to improve.

At what elo do people start paying attention to my barrels in team fights? I haven't found those people yet and I am just curious when that may happen.

What ultimate do you upgrade first? I go with death's daughter first into the barrage upgrade and then the team upgrade as the last one.

Thank you for your time and replies (:

Reached the funny blue rank with GP

Picked up Gangplank this season after finding myself bored with bruisers/singed. Immediately dropped from EME1 to EME4, but he was so fun to learn that i stuck with it and managed to climb all the way back up again. God i LOVE this champion

What's you most tilting matchup?

As said, not necessary the hardest. Just the one that makes you most dreadful to see in champ select.

Think it has to be Tryndamere. I play him too, know the weaknesess, know the build variation etc. By any means not an unwinnable matchup

And still, any game enemy locks him It makes me want to q myself in the face at at draft already.

Just hella anoying matchup. So much FUN to get uuga buuga spinned on lvl1 and lose third of my hp bar in one aa. In a way volatile whole game, theres always a chance that he just murders you if you missplay. And ofc. forces you to basicly just sit sideline matching him any point of the game.

And if he gets ahead? Yeah...

When to go LDR/Voltaic/IE after ER?

And is serp 2nd ever an option? It applies on ult so thats why I kind of like getting it pretty soon. If only healcut applied on R.. (too op ik).

I know in terms of barrel dmg, LDR>>IE>Volt usually.. but volt applies on R i think, and sometimes u have a bf sword gold on back so it tempts me to rush IE.

Also, is it bad to run TP and not play for kills? I feel like ignite is great but sometimes if lane isn't going well or I'm weaksided, TP seems more valuable to have more split push potential and overall map presence. On other champs I almost exclusivey play tp because I had a very tempo/split playstyle. If it's bad on gp though I'll just adapt to ignite I guess.

How do I beat GP after Essen Reaver?

Hi,

I dont want to call your champ op, but it becomes extremly unfun to lane against GP after he gets ER. First of lets get this: Im bad player, I should uninstall, I am bad player, skill issue and so on.

Now we should be on same page and can focus on the post:

I play champs like Renekton, Gnar, Rumble. I just reached dia4 and while I dont see many GPs, Its still kinda annoying to me. Also when I sometimes play normals with friends I will see some GPs.

After ER, he will sit back and litterly spam Qs and do crazy damage with that. When I get in range he will place barrel use his W and passive to kinda statcheck me.

What really makes me kinda mad is, that he statchecks me in melee and in range (short trades).

I just want to learn how to play against GP after ER. When Im squishy champ I kinda feel like get 3 shot just by hist ER and point and click Q. He also kinda keeps spamming barrels after level 10 or so, contesting them becomes so annoying. Concepts of early game dont apply anymore, contesting barrels becomes really hard since he kinda spams them and will punish me comming in range with his point and click Q.

What is the downside of Q spam after ER? How do I contest barrels after around level 10? Because he kinda just contest me and ults when I try to engage and also statchecks me which I am really confused about. GP has somethine like 51% winrate, so he isnt op right? So there has to be some kind of balance after ER item.

I appreciate any help.

Back again

You guys are abusing the most broken champ in the toplane your all terrible off ur champ. impossible to lane against for 99% of champions 0 downside in lane miss all 3 barrells just w and run away or use ur passive auto ignite! broken champ pisslow players dropping millions of points on nerf. for example I just did a 1v1 against one of your shitters using random champs and since ur high skill playerbase should win explain why he went and lost 10 in a row to me crying about every champ. Dogshit playerbase abusing the best laner ever created.

Can't carry games as GP.

i have garnered almost 400K points on GP now and am a gold elo player. Lately the champ has kinda clicked for me and i have been winning lanes nonstop. Well at least 80% of lanes i have won. In most of my games i have even farmed well (7,8,9 cs a min) and yet i cant seem to carry my losing team. I am kinda getting tilted which is not really my thing. I have 3 items by 18-20 minute mark i fight with the team we win team fights and next thing i know i have defeat on my screen. What could be the problem. Do i gotta side lane more, pick my team fights better? i need a little help.

GP Bot ?

Hi guys, gp main here currently plat 2.
I left toplane for a while and mid gp feels so much better than top (around 61% win rate mid).
Shorter lane so u can’t get frozen if u make a mistake early and can’t farm or get xp for the rest of the laning phase.
Playing against more melee champs than top (yep u read that right).
Most of the midlaners don’t know how to play against u and u can get some easy kills.
U can prioritize dragon more and have an impact.
No more non-stop ganks.
Better quest (in my opinion). Not much of a difference in xp gain so u get lvl 13 almost at the same time.
I get deathfire against melee champs and fleet against ranged heavy poke champs (where i can survive no problem since the lane is so short).

So that said, i have been thinking about bot gp.
The quest is soo much better bot. More gold more items.
And came here to ask for ur thoughts on this.
