George Brown Social Service Worker

Hello,

I’m curious as to know how difficult this program is. I tend to strive in these sort of things but fear heavy essays & extensive exams. I’m not always the smartest but tend to work hard when it comes to things I’m good at to make up for it. Anyone know what the run down is for a typical class? How lectures are structured? Frequent testing on theories, concepts, etc? Mid terms, exams? How are the placements like? I plan to bridge this diploma onto the University of Guelph-Humber to get a BSW after working for a year. Any and every detail would help, thank you!

Dental Hygiene

Hey guys, what’s the yearly schedule like for you? I’m planning on a vacation at April - September but some students are saying that there’s still “activities” to do in the summer

GBC or TMU for nursing

Should I do my BScN at George brown college or Toronto metropolitan university. I’m conflicted as I love the environment and campus at waterfront but it’s also a new program, Tmu is also a university, sometimes it feels embarrassing saying I’m going to do my BScN at a college. I want to later on go and get my masters at Tmu for nursing so I’m wondering if they would have a bias to pick their own BScN students rather than the new GBC BScN students.

Surviving Sem 2

It’s quickly becoming clear semester 2 of practical nursing isn’t for the weak. For those of you that have finished second semester, how did you get through it? Any tips with anatomy, pathology, etc would be great because I feel so defeated

I'm locked out of my student email and can't register for convocation

My old phone broke that was linked to my 2FA account and I couldn't link it to my new phone. Anytime I try to sign into my student email or stuview it says to 2FA verify. Who do I contact about this and will I still be able to go to convocation?

Cant login to StuView, is it down?

Everytime I try to login to StuView it automatically logs me out and sends me to this page. I tried it like 5 or 6 times and even tried on my phone. Was gonna email support but thought this might be quicker.

Kinda bummed about the quality of this school

For context I'm now in my third semester so thank goodness I'm about to graduate if I play this card right but I'm just so upset at how the quality of education in this school has deteriorated. Is this due to lack of international students and schools being "broke" because of so, why should all students whether domestic or international suffer so much with little to no resources. What is it like at St.James campus?

I'm starting in September and im nervous as HECK. It's a 1.3hr commute for me, so I need some sorta motivation to get myself to attend classes or im genuinely cooked, and I need a few friends, honestly, even one friend is fine.
How is it like at St.James so far? Especially the finance/accounting courses? The students and stuff? How is the social life there, clubs, etc.

Does PN require placement English test?

I just accepted my offer and they sent me an email that says I need to do a placement test, and to check Stu-View. It says there is not anything available. So do I wait or do I book it somewhere else? Is it hard? I did not know I needed to do a test!!!

George Brown Dental Hygiene vs PN to RN bridge, what should I do?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to decide between:

  • Pre-Health → Dental Hygiene or
  • Pre-Health → Practical Nursing → RN bridge later

My Grade 12 marks were:

  • Bio: 92%
  • Chem: 85%
  • English: 85%
  • Math: 73%
  • Overall average of 6 highest U level courses including the ones above was around 82%.

I’m willing to retake courses through TVO ILC (especially math) and/or do Pre-Health at George Brown if needed.

What’s stressing me out is that I keep hearing:

  • Dental Hygiene is extremely competitive
  • but also that not everyone who becomes an RPN successfully bridges to RN later

I’ve also heard people say RPN isn’t viewed the same as RN, which makes me nervous because if I do nursing, I’d eventually want to become an RN.

I’m also wondering — if I DON’T need to do Pre-Health, would it be smarter to take Dental Assisting while upgrading my marks through TVO ILC? That way by the time I finish upgrading, I’d already have a diploma and experience in the dental field and be able to work at a dental clinic maybe before applying to Dental Hygiene.

Would upgrading courses alone be enough, or is Pre-Health worth it too? And if you were in my position, which route would you choose and what exactly would you do starting from June 2026?

Any honest advice would really help 😭
