Sunborn or Elliott

I'll be going to a wedding at the Cathedral of The Holy Trinity and am weighing up options for where to stay. I've stayed on the Sunborn previously and thought it was beautiful but the Elliott is closer and seems similarly priced.

I appreciate that most people on the group live in Gibraltar so probably aren't staying in either, but I would appreciate any advice or input on where to stay.

ETA: thank you, seems as though the Elliott is the best option and I can wear heels to the wedding without worrying about too much walking!

Moving to Gibraltar with kids (3 & 7 yo) from Sweden - Education & long-term adaptation concerns?

Hi guys,
My family is currently considering a major move to Gibraltar due to a new job opportunity for my husband. I’d really appreciate some advice, especially from parents or expats living there.
Here is our situation: we all hold Swedish citizenship, and we currently live and work in Sweden. We have two kids (ages 7 and 3).
While we are excited about the opportunity, my main concerns revolve around our children's education and long-term transition:

  1. School System & Language: Coming from the Nordic/Swedish education system, how different is the schooling in Gibraltar? Is the curriculum taught entirely in English, and is it easy for a 7-year-old coming from abroad to adapt?
  2. Returning to Sweden/Europe later: We might move back to Sweden in a few years. Would spending a few school years in Gibraltar cause any major gaps or issues if they transition back into the Nordic education system later on?
  3. Overall Quality of Life for Families: How is life in Gibraltar for young kids in terms of outdoor activities, community, and healthcare?
Is it worth making the move for a few years, or would it be too disruptive for the kids at these ages?
Thanks in advance for any insights or experiences you can share!

Where is the Gibraltar FA store?

Hello, I'd like to know where the Gibraltar FA shop is located. I searched on Google Maps and it shows as permanently closed. I also checked their website and couldn't find any information about its location.

The Rock Hotel - John & Yoko

I am currently researching the wedding of John and Yoko from March 1969.

Most accounts state that after the ceremony they left within the hour on a chartered plane.

However, The Rock Hotel claims they stayed for two nights, with John even signing the guest book.

Can anyone confirm or provide any insight into what actually happened?

How cloudy is Gibraltar at the start of August on average ?

I'm planning to see the next solar eclipse happening 2 August 2027 and I want to know the risk of cloud since it was a problem for the eclipse of today.

I know it is impossible to know the weather 1 year in advance but there is probably a pattern for the weather of Gibraltar and its surrounding.

Looking for 2 wedding witnesses tomorrow (14 Aug) in Gibraltar - paid

Hi! Very last-minute request, but my partner and I are getting married at Gibraltar City Hall tomorrow, Friday 14th August at 2pm, and we need two witnesses.

We need to be at City Hall for 1:45pm, so we’re looking for two people who can meet us there, act as our witnesses for the ceremony and take a couple of pictures.

Happy to compensate you for your time.

If you’re in Gibraltar and available, please send me a message with what you’d expect in terms of compensation.

You would be saving the day for us.

Thank you!

Paddleboard Community

Hi All,

Gonna keep it short and sweet:
I have a paddleboard, i’m a local, but my friends don’t have paddleboards themselves.

  1. is there a paddleboard community in Gibraltar?
  2. if the answer to the above is “no”, want to make one?

Have a nice day :)

Getting from Tarifa to Gibraltar

I can’t seem to find any speedy public transit between the Port of Tarifa to Gibraltar. Does anyone know if one can arrange for a private shuttle? I saw there’s a bus to Algeciras but that is like a 3 hour trip. We’ll be starting in Tangiers and taking a ferry to Tarifa. We were hoping to make it a long day trip, But I get the sense that it may not be feasible.

Can EU citizens drive Gibraltar reg cars in Spain post treaty?

Before the treaty/border opening, EU citizens who were not resident in Gibraltar were not allowed to drive Gibraltar-registered cars in Spain.

Has this changed following the new treaty and the opening of the Gibraltar–Spain border?

In particular, can an EU citizen/resident now legally drive a Gibraltar-registered car in Spain, or do the old restrictions still apply?

Thanks!

Facilities Management companies in Gibraltar.

Hi all, I’m planning on moving to Gibraltar within the next few months and I’m wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I’ve worked in FM for a number of years now but I’ve been struggling to find open job positions in this field. I’m aware of one company whom I have worked with and used in the past for subcontracting work (Techtrolec) and most of the maintenance companies I’ve researched so far appear to me Government owned. If anyone within the field has any advice it would be greatly appreciated :)
