Hi everyone, I recently moved to Göttingen. I was wondering if there are places where the Formula 1 races are screened. And also, if they are in English?

Hi yall so I’m coming to Göttingen this October but don’t have any accommodation so far. So I joined some FB groups and I got reached out by this one person asking for my email so they could send me more details. So I shared my email.

They sent me the video of the apartment, rent, location and honestly it’s really decent considering the size of the apartment and rent. But since it looked too good to be true I asked whether they can do a live video call, send ownership certificate and I asked for any official listing.

They replied that they are travelling so can’t show the room live lmao. Then they said they want to rent out privately so that’s why they didn’t create official listing. But they did say that they can send out the ownership certificate and contract and I can pay the security deposit only after I sign the contract and pay rest in person.

Do you guys think it’s most likely a scam or it might be legit? Any replies would be very helpful :) Thanks for reading ik it was a long one 😭😭

Hi yall so recently I got an offer from UMG which I accepted and I’ve been looking for accommodation ever since. Recently I posted in a FB group and I got a contact from there. Upon contacting the owner she sent me the pics of the apartments and stuff and tbh the apartment looks rly nice (good location, decent enough rent too). But she wants me to pay deposit first before anything. She didn’t even disclose the full address of the property. She’s saying she will send everything after I paid the deposit. I feel this is kinda sus lol. So yea… thoughts?

Gibt es in Göttingen einen Buchclub für Menschen ab 30 Jahren? Ich sehe immer wieder Angebote für jüngere Menschen - was ja auch voll ok ist - aber würde gerne mehr Leute in meinem Alter kennenlernen und mich gemeinsam über Bücher austauschen (Romane, Fantasy, Kurzgeschichten, SciFi, Krimis). Kitschige Liebesromane sind nicht so mein Ding. Bislang habe ich noch nichts passendes gefunden. Habt ihr Tipps?

Hii everyone! I’ll most prolly be coming to Göttingen (intl student) by mid September for my masters degree starting from October 2026. It’s my first time in Germany so not sure about the accommodation processes and choices asw. I’m wondering are there dorms I shd apply to or renting websites or smtg? How difficiult is it actually to get an accommodation and around when shd I start looking? Or are there any other channels I can look through for renting alone or with other ppl? Like Facebook or WhatsApp groups?

Heute so gegen 9:20 sind bei mir Strom und Internet für eine halbe Stunde ausgefallen. Das war auch außerhalb von Bad Lauterberg, einige Freund*innen hatten das auch, die im LK wohnten.

Ich will hier wirklich niemanden schlechtreden. Wir haben ein paar solide Läden. Döner King, Rosdorfer Kebab, Crunchy Kebab und Istanbul Grill in der Goslarstraße fallen mir da sofort ein. Da kann man echt gut essen, man nicht traurig raus, ist schon alles sehr gut essbar.

Aber trotzdem bleibt meine große Frage:

Warum hat Göttingen keinen richtig geilen Döner?

Ich meine nicht: "Jo, kann man gut essen."
Ich meine: "Dafür fahre ich durch die halbe Stadt."
Ich meine: echtes Scheibenfleisch, gute Qualität, verlässlich, nicht nur mit Glück am Freitag, wenn man früh genug da ist und der Spieß noch nicht weggefuttert wurde wie Freibier beim Dorffest.

Döner King macht freitags Kalbscheibenfleisch, wenn man früh genug dran ist. Super Sache. Istanbul Grill traut sich ebenfalls freitags an Lammfleisch, bravo! Bei Crunchy Kebab kann man am Wochenende manchmal auch Glück haben. Aber genau das ist ja das Problem: Man kann sich nicht darauf verlassen.

Warum ist das in Göttingen so?

Wir haben hier wirklich viele Dönerläden. Wir haben Studierende, Familien, Leute aus den Dörfern, Nachtschwärmer, Handwerker und so weiter, viele essen gerne Döner. Der Markt ist doch da. Und die Preise sind inzwischen sowieso bei 8, 9, teilweise 10 Euro angekommen. Klar gibt es auch günstigere Spieße und die haben sicher auch ihre Berechtigung, aber man sollte doch nicht so tun, als wäre Göttingen eine Stadt, in der alle nur den billigsten Hackspieß wollen.

Wenn ein Laden sagen würde „Wir machen richtig gute Qualität, echtes Scheibenfleisch, gute Zutaten, sauberer Aufbau, dafür kostet der Döner 12 Euro“, ich denke, der Laden würde hier doch funktionieren müssen, oder? Genug Leute würden das feiern. Andere Städte bekommen das doch auch hin.

Göttingen diskutiert sonst über alles. Radwege, Buslinien, Innenstadt, Wohnraum, Uni, Parkplätze, Weende oder Weende, aber beim Döner nehmen wir einfach hin, dass „ziemlich okay/gut“ offenbar schon die Spitze der kulinarischen Gefühle sein soll.

Also ernst gemeinte Frage an euch:

Gibt es in Göttingen wirklich keinen Dönerladen, der regelmäßig hochwertiges Scheibenfleisch anbietet? Gefühlt kenne ich alle Dönerläden in Göttingen, aber evtl. habe ich ja genau den einen verpasst, der das schon anbietet?!

I swear to you I went to almost every retail store / big supermarket in Goettingen looking for a fan (Ventilator) for this heatwave and found nothing!! Where does one buy a fan here? Obi? It’s far away (in Grone) and it’s crazy to me it’s the only option where you can find them. Any other recommendations??

Are there any cyclists here that would like to link up for a ride? I've tried out a couple of the cycling groups in the area, but they're a bit too fast for me and also their timings often don't work for my schedule. I have both road and gravel :)
