Opener for Las Vegas shows?

Anyone know if Goo Goo Dolls have an opener for the shows at Venetian Theatre? Anyone who attended who can estimate approximate time show ended? Am on a tight table and trying to determine if I can pull it off one night.

Any Buffalo locals remember Last Conservative? I remember them a lot around venues in the Early 2000’s when Robby was starting up Music is Art. Fantastic album.

🎶"Black Balloon"🎶 is a song by American 🇺🇲 rock band Goo Goo Dolls. It was released in June 1999 as the fourth single from the band's sixth studio album, Dizzy Up the Girl 📀 (1998), and reached No. 3 in Canada 🇨🇦, No. 16 in the United States 🇺🇲, and No. 23 in Iceland 🇮🇸.

The song, according to lead singer John Rzeznik 🎙, is based on a woman who is struggling with a heroin addiction and her lover who is desperately trying to save her. He has also said that it is about "seeing someone you love that is so great just screw up so bad." Speculation had it that the specific person the song was based on was the ex-wife of bassist Robby Takac; she died of a heroin overdose.

Like many other songs by Goo Goo Dolls, 🎶"Black Balloon"🎶 uses an unusual alternate tuning. Several electric guitars used in the introduction and the acoustic rhythm guitar are tuned to an open D-flat fifth chord. It was half-stepped on the album version.

The track reached 📈 No. 13 and No. 28 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks and Mainstream Rock Tracks charts, respectively.🎶"Black Balloon"🎶 was the band's first commercially released single in the US since 🎶"Name"🎶 in 1995, reaching No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 💯 with its combined sales and airplay figures. In Canada 🇨🇦, the song reached No. 3 on the RPM 💯 Hit Tracks chart, giving the Goo Goo Dolls their fourth top-three hit there.Outside North America, the song charted in Iceland 🇮🇸 and the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, reaching No. 23 in the former country and No. 76 in the latter.

The video 🎬 opens with a woman blowing smoke into a soap bubble. It then moves into showing scenes from a 1950s era swim club while the band performs the song. The video was directed 📽 by Nancy Bardawil.

And I Don’t Want the World to See Me

… ‘Cause I don’t think that they’d understand’…

The songs lyrics carry a different meaning almost 30 years later. The “world” seeing me, is all my followers… all the likes I have gained throughout the years and the subtle reputation i’ve built.

I feel the need to uphold my social media narrative and obtain a partner who aligns with my story.

But F**k the world. I want what’s best for me. How do I let go of that narrative and not care what others think so much??

Album Discussion: Miracle Pill (2019)

Hello Again everyone, continuing our Goo Goo Dolls album discussions, this time we’re talking about Miracle Pill, released in 2019.

This album has always made me feel nostlagic for previous albums. This one soundsvery polished and modern to me, probably more than any other Goo Goo Dolls album. You can really hear how much the production changed over the years, but by listenting to lyrics underneath all of that it still feels like Johnny writing about anxiety, relationships, and trying to hold yourself together while everything around you keeps moving.

I remember when this album first came out a lot of fans seemed divided on it. Some people liked hearing the band try newer sounds, while others missed more of the rawness and guitar-driven feeling from the older albums (I was more on this side).

A few songs that stand out to me:

“Miracle Pill” A really interesting title track. It’s upbeat and catchy, but lyrically it feels pretty cynical. It almost sounds like a song about people looking for something to fix everything instantly. This one is my favorite on the album.

“Fearless” Probably one of the more emotional songs on the album. It feels honest and vulnerable without overdoing it.

“Money, Fame & Fortune” This one stands out because it has a little more attitude to it. It feels playful on the surface, but there’s definitely some frustration underneath.

To me, Miracle Pill feels like a band that’s comfortable doing whatever they want at this point in their career. It doesn’t sound like they were trying to recreate the past, and even if the modern production is not for everyone, there’s still a lot of honesty in these songs. End of the day for when this album came out I was just happy that my favorite band is still at it and still puttimg out music into the world.

Whats the consensus for you guys? How do you feel about Miracle Pill? Did the newer sound work for you?

Robby’s songs live

I really wish Robby would sing Burnin’ Up or Somethin’ Bad instead of Slave Girl or something else. I also think it would be cool if they did String of Lies where they alternate lead vocals.

5/22/26 show Vegas

Im flying in and arriving at 7pm to the airport on 5/22. The goal is to make it to my hotel and make it to the venue and buy a last minute ticket before show starts at 8:30. Obviously if my flight is delayed its a no go. Can I get entry after the show starts if I buy a ticket at 8pm but arrive at let's say 8:45/9pm?

Their best song?

Fun fact. The Goo Goo Dolls first performed Cuz You're Gone in 1991 during the Hold Me Up tour before they recorded it for Superstar Car wash. Then, in 1996 live performances, Johnny began improvising the A Thousand Words interlude.

The New York Times named the 30 Greatest Living American Songwriters

Line for line, lyric for lyric. Rzeznik has a strong case for the greatest lyrist ever. Joni Mitchell, Bon Iver (Justin Vernon), Sting, and Sarah McLachlan all have equal claim as well. Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, are all very clever but lack the beauty and simplicity of Rzeznik. Rzeznik is able to write deeply personal and specific lyrics that become universal in their specificity. He also is able to create original lines without sounding like a cliché or Hall Mark card or dripping with oversentimentality which is nearly impossible to achieve...and yet he does so consistently.

For anyone who is searching for brilliant lyricists and AMERICAN BORN SONGWRITERS:

Justin Vernon of Bon Iver
Chris Carraba of Dashboard Confessional
Jewel
Natalie Merchant of 10,000 Maniacs
Ethel Cain
Sam Beam of Iron & Wine
Jason Wade of Lifehouse
John Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls
Maynard James Keenan of Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer
Michael Stipe of R.E.M.
Mark Kozelek of Sun Kill Moon
Evan Stephens Hall of Pinegrove
Moby
Cat Power
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails
Brandon Flowers of The Killers
Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem
Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse
Queens of the Stone Age

And to sell you on some of these artists' prose:
Bon Iver: “I wear my garment so it shows. Now you know”/"Honey, understand that I have been left here in the reeds, and all I'm trying to do is get my feet up from the crease"
Dashboard Confessional: "So kiss me hard 'cause this will be the last time that I let you You will be back someday And this awkward kiss that tells of other people's lips Will be of service to keeping you away"
Jewel "'Cause your hands are in my hair, But my heart is in your teeth, babe"
Natalie Merchant: "Contempt loves the silence, it thrives in the dark. With fine winding tendrils that strangle the heart"
Iron & Wine: "There are things that drift away Like our endless, numbered days Autumn blew the quilt right off the perfect bed she made And she's chosen to believe In the hymns her mother sings Sunday pulls its children from the piles of fallen leaves"
Lifehouse "A strangled smile fell from your face"/"Would you catch me if I fall out of what I fell in? Don't be surprised if I collapse Down at your feet again"
Goo Goo Dolls "I'd give up forever to touch you"/“And even though the moment passed me by, I still can’t turn away”/"Tell me lies that you know I need"
R.E.M. "I've watched the stars fall silent from your eyes"
Sun Kill Moon "Can't count to all the lovers I've burned through So, why do I still burn for you? I can't say Sorry that I could never love you back I could never care enough in these last days"
Pinegrove: And there's brambles scratching at the window And there's silver shining on the thorns I could've sworn the moon's singing to me Shining a phase so strange and torn
Nine Inch Nails: "I believe I can see the future. 'Cause I repeat the same routine. I think I used to have a purpose. Then again, that might have been a dream"
The Killers: "And the decades disappear like sinking ships But we persevere, God gives us hope But we still fear What we don't know The mind is poison Castle's in the sky Sit stranded vandalized The drawbridge is closing"
The Gaslight Anthem: "In the deep, dark parking lot pressed up against my car With your hands around my neck I felt the pounding of your heart And the summer night was giving in to the lure of Autumn’s sway I can’t seem to forget that night or how I heard you say"
Modest Mouse: “We made ourselves a pillar We just used it as a crutch”
Queens of The Stone Age: “Tears of pleasure. Tears of pain. They trickle down your face the same”
