How to bind right quick menu in SteamOS on GPD Win 5?

Hey, I just installed SteamOS on my GPD Win 5 and wanted to start using Decky Loader. Unfortunately, I can’t access the right quick-access menu.

Does anyone know how to remap or bind currently unused keys (like the back grip buttons) to open that menu?

++ UPDATE ++

Got it working by remapping the back button in SteamOS using keyd.

In my case I remapped the right back button from F3 to Alt + Meta + 2 (A-M-2 in keyd).

Steps

  1. Exit Gaming Mode and switch to Desktop Mode.
  2. Open Konsole/Terminal.
  3. Set a password for the deck user: passwd deck
  4. (Optional / not recommended) Disable package signature checks if you run into Pacman signature issues. Only do this if you know what you're doing. I only did this because I was too lazy to fix the keyring properly.

Edit:

sudo nano /etc/pacman.conf

Change:

SigLevel = Required DatabaseOptional

to:

SigLevel = Never

Save with:

  • CTRL + O
  • CTRL + X
  1. Install keyd: sudo pacman -S keyd
  2. Find the button mapping: sudo keyd monitor

Press the button you want to remap.

In my case the right back button generated:

f3
  1. Create/edit the config: sudo nano /etc/keyd/default.conf

Add:

[ids]
*

[main]
f3 = A-M-2

Save again with:

  • CTRL + O
  • CTRL + X
  1. Restart keyd: sudo systemctl restart keyd
  2. Enable keyd on boot: sudo systemctl enable keyd

Important

Using:

[ids]
*

will remap F3 system-wide, including your actual keyboard F3 key.

You can avoid this by replacing * with your specific device ID instead.
I didn't bother because I only use the handheld buttons.

GPD Win 4 w/ upgrades

EDIT: Link to the battery is in the comments :)

So I recently got a HX370 win 4 again and I put some upgrades into it and I gotta say this thing is now the perfect travel handheld. Inside I added PTM to the CPU, cleaned the inside a ton as it was used, new thermal pads, additional pads to help with heat, added tighter Hall effect sticks, and even upgraded the battery to a 55w battery. After the battery was added this thing is literally perfect for lower spec games. Almost 2.5 hours on Skyrim running at 12w, HD2 at 15w I get about 2 hours of battery life, and if I stay within that realm of things the battery life is fantastic and performance is great. This is the perfect setup to have along side my Apex as for the apex I didn’t want to travel with it because of the size and I wanted something small and compact I can do virtually everything with. Only thing I’m thinking about changing is the fan and some other internals to make them maintained. So far the battery has held up well and has been fantastic with no issues so far. Right side can get a bit toasty but at 12w I feel virtually no heat. This thing became the perfect travel companion. All I need now is a good front over plate for it.

Please Tell Me I Havent Irreparably Damaged my win mini

So, I got a win mini 2024 like a year ago, one of the first things I ever bought with my own money.

I go messing with some bios settings last night, (and I'm no computer whiz, I'm just not stupid, and somewhat know how they work) Specifically where it said custom p states. I thought maybe this was why I can't get anything to run above 30 fps even at 1080p it seems. So I changed the clock speed from 3300mhz to 4200.

Now my win mini boots to a black screen.

(PC issues give me stomachaches. It'd be awesome if somebody could help me out, I just wanna play my games at a reasonable framerate, like 30fps 4k, 45fps 1440p, stable 60fps 1080p.)

Gpd win 5 battery not charging.

I have the win 5 hooked up to included battery with the included cable. Usually it charges to full wifh a green light indicating its good. But today it was plugged in half the day and never went green and will not power the unit.

I have the battery hooked up directly to the console and am trying to charge that way (maybe a defective cable although I leave it on the device and battery).

Just looking for ideas. Thanks!

Update: charging through the console hooked up directly to the back so maybe bad cable. Don't know how it can bad already when I barely disconnected it.

After watching AMD’s 2026 annual shareholder meeting, I honestly feel like compact high-performance PCs are becoming more important than ever.

AMD talked a lot about:

  • AI PC growth
  • Ryzen AI platforms
  • power efficiency
  • stronger integrated graphics
  • mobile computing
  • expanding gaming technologies

And while they weren’t specifically talking about handheld PCs, it really feels like companies like GPD are naturally benefiting from the direction AMD is moving toward.

A few years ago, devices like the GPD WIN series still felt extremely niche.
Now the gap between compact systems and traditional desktops feels smaller every generation.

Modern APUs are getting powerful enough that portable devices are no longer just “backup computers” or experimental gadgets.
They’re starting to become legitimate daily-use PCs for a lot of people.

Honestly curious where handheld PCs will be in another 3–5 years if AMD keeps improving integrated graphics and power efficiency at this pace.

GPD WIN 5 (64gig +4tb) worth it?

I recently purchased the God Win 5 (32 gig 2tb) from Newegg through a third party seller, which was a bad choice because I didn’t know I could change the shipping to DHL, so now I have to wait almost a month to receive it, and they’ve overpriced the product. I wasn’t thinking clearly at the time when I bought the GPD 5. I was so excited about getting it. I forgot gpd had an official site. I went to check 2 days ago after looking at the price and I was definitely overpriced then I was thinking hmm I have enough for the (64gig 4tb) and I want it to replace my pc so I need to ram and I personally want the tb. so yesterday I emailed them about canceling my order so I can purchase the item on its official website, the third party seller emailed me back hours later and said “We already shipped it by UPS, it's in HongKong now, we can not cancel it” I emailed them back saying “once it ships to my house can I return it” they haven’t replied yet but I just want to know should I just enjoy what I bought and waited for. Or should I just consider returning it back which I don’t know how to do and wait until I get a refund and get what I want. This will be my first ever pc handheld and I want it to be an amazing experience and something I want to keep for a very long time

Why do people complain so much about prices for brand new tech so much.. let me share how it was baxk in the 90's 😆

Back in the 90's if you wanted the latest tech before it comes out on main stream systems you were actually paying 4k- to sometimes 9grand!! For a sub netbook !

So for us to get something like the gpdwin5 395ai for 1500-2grand yea we're winning! :) (joking ,but still wild to see old 90's tech prices)

Gpd win mini, Whats worth better 8840u or hx.

The 8840 currently 1100 and hx is 1700. Is it worth the extra perf. I saw a vid where 8840 u is getting barely 50 fps cyberpunk and hx is getting nearly 90!

Win 4 + Bazzite = Expanded BT Codecs? YES!

Something that I've never seen mentioned by anybody when talking about Bazzite. Mostly people just about how much lighter Bazzite is vs Windows and how everything just "works" vs something like CachyOS...

But yeah, apparently Bazzite gives you a bunch of Low Latency BT Codecs that Windows doesn't have - including what I consider the Holy Grail: Bluetooth LE Audio (LC3) - as shown here connected to my Samsung Buds 3 Pro (through HSP not A2DP but it works the same).

Which is amazing as while the Win 4 2023 7840U THEORETICALLY supports BT5.2 and LC3, none of the drivers available online could enable it for me in Windows (a dongle would work... but yeah).

AptX LL also works out of the box in Bazzite with my Creative JAM V2s, vs having to buy a 3rd party driver (or a dongle) to enable it in Windows.

And there's also the ever useful SBC-XQ (aka the poor man's AptX) for any headphones that don't support either of the above - which is also kinda hard to enable for Windows.

You just need to install Pwvucontrol via Baazar in Desktop Mode to allow for manual changes in the codec used... and your choice should stick in Game Mode and persist across reboots.

The more brilliant part however, that this (probably) means that, given the right hardware, Bazzite should enable the codecs for ANY x86 handheld with compatible hardware. Also, this probably means that you can do the same with CachyOS too, given the right components.

OOOOOORRRR you could just run a wired headset and save yourself all this trouble... but what's the fun in that lol.

I didn’t really think about it at first, but using a handheld PC daily kind of changes how you treat it.

With my GPD device, I noticed I’ve slowly started adjusting how I use it without even realizing:

  • I avoid placing it on rough surfaces
  • I’m more careful with cables while gaming/charging
  • I tend to store it in a specific spot instead of just leaving it around
  • I think twice before tossing it into a bag

It’s not that anything bad happened — it’s still perfectly fine — but when you actually use something every day, you naturally start being more cautious with it.

Kind of interesting how a “portable gaming device” slowly turns into something you treat more like a small PC than a handheld toy.

Does anyone else feel like their usage habits changed over time, even without any damage actually happening?

Is this AliExpress shop safe/legit?

Hi guys, from the Philippines here and it's currently hard to find a store here that has the Win Max 2 (2025) in stock. I found an AliExpress Shop that sells it, and although it has reviews, I'm still a bit nervous buying from it. Just want some second thoughts from you guys, do you think it's worth a shot? And do you recommend any other shops that could be good too?

P.S. I also want your guys' feedback if it's worth getting other models of the Win Max 2 (202-2024). Those are somewhat cheaper so I would love some input too. I plan to use this for gaming and academics as well. It's a very small and portable laptop which helps since my college campus is quite big and a big laptop would be too much of a hassle to carry around lol. Thanks again!

Reviving this Win 2

Hi all!
I acquired this gpd win 2 in a lot of various electronics and i’m trying to revive it, so i can play some games.
I’m completely new to this platform…
The issues:
No charger obviously…
Hinge a bit loose
When plugging it in my usb c macbook charger i get a red blinking light, when i power it on the screen stays black and the fans are running…
Anyone an idea on how to get some life back into it?
