GPD win 5 for 1600 USD worth it?

I currently have MSI claw 8 ai but looking for a more powerful handheld. Found 32gb model on AliExpress for 1600 USD. Wondering how is ergonomics and weight and if it's worth it. Also I mostly play with ar glasses so small screen doesn't bother me. Thank you

GPD Win 5 One Year Later - Finally Perfect?

I made a video on the GPD Win 5! I think it's genuinely the perfect size for a handheld. Having used the OneXPlayer 3 with the G3 Extreme chip, I think once you disable some of the CPU cores and download the GPDTool overlay. It's such a perfect little handheld gaming device!

GPD Box and GPD G2 - I have beta units! Ask me questions and make requests

Hey guys, I've been using and testing the GPD Box and GPD G2 beta units for a few weeks now and have moved over to them as my dedicated gaming PC set up.

I'm happy to answer questions and take requests. I know they're not super popular on IGG right now but I can at least say that I'm happy to have these. I'm using a 9070 16gb (Non-XT) in the G2. I was using my 4060 8GB for awhile as well.

Handheld Companion now supports Steam Input gyro through Steam Deck / Steam Controller / DualSense / DS4 emulation

Hi everyone,

I'm the main developer of Handheld Companion, an open source solution for Windows PC and handheld, and I thought this might be relevant to people here who own Windows handhelds and enjoy gyro aiming.

Since version 0.30.0.1, Handheld Companion can emulate several controller types that are recognized by Steam Input:

  • Steam Deck
  • Steam Controller
  • DualSense
  • DualShock4

The goal is to make Steam Input gyro features available on handhelds that either don't expose their IMU to Steam properly or don't have native Steam Input gyro support.

Under the hood, motion data from the handheld's IMU is translated and fed into the emulated controller, allowing Steam Input to handle gyro aiming just as it would with supported devices. This currently works across most Windows handhelds supported by Handheld Companion, including devices from ASUS, Lenovo, GPD, AYANEO, OneXPlayer, MSI, Zotac, and others.

For games that expect XInput, HC can also expose an emulated Xbox 360 controller for broad compatibility through its own gyro translation layer based on JibbSmart's JoyShockLibrary work.

I know many people here already have their preferred gyro setups, therefore I'm not trying to convince anyone but from the looks of it and because I hardly do any promotion on HC, not many people seams to be aware.

Hot pixel, how to fix?

I got this hot pixel on my GPD Win5.

Tried flashing it with rapidly changing colours for a hour, tried to massage it away, both did nothing.

Anyone knows of any other way to fix them?

Win Mini 2024 custom fan

So the fan in my 2024 win mini gave up the ghost a week ago.., still waiting for the replacement to be delivered but have a road trip in under a day....

So.... I ordered a couple of steam deck fans an well ok more like three... took one completely apart roughly an the second one I took apart gently an even managed to rewire it to have the same pinout as the win mini.

Popped into tinker cad an started reverse engineering the original fan for the mini an got to the deck fan motor an blower to fit in a similar shape!

now you might notice I have a extra fan an to my surprise my coolmodule I ordered right when the kickstarter went live... finally delivered like two months ago but no shipping was given or anything it just... showed up at my door

https://preview.redd.it/dut5zj9gz9bh1.jpg?width=1276&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b4a351edd9f7c43766baa97a9988b97cc7a03669

Anyways the new blower housing is made out of ASA plastic and while the deck fan is 3MM thicker I did make sure the outlet choked down to the 7mm for the heatsink so noooo air bypassing the heatsink!

But of course this made another hickup that well the fan is to thick so... grabbed the gpd win mini D shell off makerworld an loaded it into tinker cad an made a D shell spacer and a fill plate to go around.

is it pretty? sorta?... wasn't really the plan but I don't have a spare laptop sooo for a quick one day made dash to make my win mini cool down again is WOOOOO!

the trim is still a bit on the tight side but I have juuuust ran out of asa so its superfastmatt certified "good enough"

Also for the curious in least mechwarrior 5 at 18 watts handheld is staying below 60c with the default fan curve in bazzite, I can do the other HHD fan curves an the device quiets up a LOT

anyways thought I share my tinkering, depending on how well this holds up I might just keep it an have the OEM fan as a spare spare cause I do have another deck fan chilling in a box incase I fubar'd this one

GPD Win 4 7840U back buttons not regcornize

Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with the back buttons (L4/R4) on my GPD Win 4 (Ryzen 7 7840U) and I’m wondering if anyone with the same model has experienced this.

Current setup:
GPD Win 4 (7840U)
BIOS 6.0
Windows 11 (clean installation)
Gamepad firmware: X408K407 (updated from X406K406)
WinControls 1.4 (the version compatible with this firmware)

The reason I updated the controller firmware was because my L4/R4 back buttons and vibration were not working. After flashing to X408K407, the vibration started working again, so the firmware update appears to have been successful.

In WinControls, the back buttons are automatically mapped to:
L4 → Print Screen
R4 → Pause/Break
However, the buttons still don’t work at all.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:
- Remapping the buttons multiple times in WinControls.
- Reinstalling the GPD drivers.
- Clean Windows 11 installation.
- Removing Handheld Companion and ViGEmBus to avoid input conflicts.
- Testing the buttons using keyboard event viewers and gamepad testers.

The result is always the same:
- Pressing L4/R4 produces no keyboard events (no Print Screen or Pause).
- They also produce no gamepad events.

One thing I noticed is that Windows detects the built-in controller as an Xbox 360 controller (XInput). Since an Xbox 360 controller doesn’t have back buttons, I’m wondering if this is related, although I thought L4/R4 were supposed to send keyboard events directly through the firmware.

Has anyone with a GPD Win 4 7840U, BIOS 6.0, and controller firmware X408K407 experienced the same issue?

If your L4/R4 work correctly, could you let me know:
- Which BIOS version you’re using.
- Which controller firmware version you’re using.
- Which version of WinControls you’re using.
- Whether your L4/R4 send keyboard events (Print Screen/Pause) or work in another way.

I’d really appreciate any advice. I’m trying to determine whether this is a firmware issue, a hardware revision issue, or if I’m missing a required driver or service.

Thanks!

Does anyone have any idea what could possibly be wrong?

Once the device is switched on and gets to the home screen absolutely nothing on the device is usable. I can use a Bluetooth keyboard in the BIOs but I haven’t found a setting to fix it. I suspect it’s driver related but I can’t actually use the device to do anything with it. The light that shows keyboard/gamepad turns on when I power it up but turns off after it gets into the system.

Anyone got any ideas or know how to factory reset it without entering into device manager?

Started by degrading battery life by around 35% and suddenly when I picked it up a couple of weeks later is in this state.

Now in the market for a replacement. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also looking for back plate replacement too as this broke like three screw holes.

🎮 HandheldAtlas Soft Launch Is Live

Over the past few weeks I’ve been building HandheldAtlas — a community-driven database focused on handheld gaming.
The goal isn’t just another list of settings.
It’s to build a place where handheld players can share:
• Benchmarks
• Game presets
• Battery life testing
• Optimization guides
• Real-world device experiences
The first feedback from Reddit has already helped shape new features and confirmed something interesting:
People don’t just want “best settings.”
They want to understand why those settings work.
So now we’re looking for a few early contributors who enjoy:
🔧 Testing games
📊 Benchmarking
🎮 Creating presets
📚 Writing guides
🧪 Finding bugs and improving the platform
We already have a Discord with benchmarking guides, testing workflows and community discussions.
If you’d like to help build something useful for the handheld gaming community while it’s still in its early stages, we’d love to have you involved.

GPD Win MINI 2025 - was on the fence and now I love it.

It is a handheld that just works. I've had the Steamdeck, Legion GO and MSI claw - GPD can legitimately be my everyday PC. And whenever I get wooed by new stuff from AYN, Ayaneo and Retroid, I just fire up Retroarch and get my old school fix. (Games are TMNT: Hyperstone Heist and TMNT: Splintered Fate)

Also, the OG grips help quite a bit and I did the back panel swap w/ fan. Easy install and cools down the system a bit (no data, just anecdotally) Next would be getting the GPD egpu, make it a true powerhouse.

Cheapest place to get a gdp win 5?

From what I seen, is indiegogo the cheapest place to get a 64gb model?

EBay is second cheapest and Amazon is third, are there any downside from getting it on indiegogo? (afaik none should buy these on ebay because I hear support won't help people who get theirs from ebay).

Are the GPD Support in this sub still able to help me out with the GPD win mini 2025 shell?

I've been hit by the dreaded shell crack at the edge of the device, and I recall support here could help you out on these a while back. Are GPD still able to provide replacement shells for this device?
