Those who finished their MBA: How has it impacted your career?

Curious to hear some stories since I’ve enrolled in an MBA program and I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. For those who finished their MBA program, how has it impacted your career? Were you able to finally break through certain positions? How have you utilized the network you’ve built?

I keep reading na it’s important to know what you want from an MBA and to try and build your network while studying. Now, I just want to hear some real-life stories from those who finished their MBA if it had some impact in your career. Whether getting that promotion you wanted, branching out to a different career path, entering the academe, or if you feel like it didn’t have any impact.

Is an MBA worth it for career growth after early corporate experience?

I’m currently working as an admin in a corporate setting and have been in the workforce for almost 2 years. I graduated from UP Diliman, but my degree is not business-related, and I feel like it has somewhat limited my upward mobility in corporate roles.

I’m starting to consider whether pursuing an MBA would help me pivot or accelerate my career growth, especially in business or management roles.

For those who’ve taken an MBA or are in the process—was it worth it for you? Did it significantly change your career trajectory or salary? Also, which MBA programs or schools would you recommend (locally only) that actually deliver strong ROI?

Would really appreciate honest insights, especially from people who didn’t come from a business background initially.

is it worth trying?

I am a BEEd graduate in 2024. I am planning to enroll in MA in Elem. Ed. or MA in Math Ed (Elem) in PNU - Manila. I know the institution's culture as to graduate studies. Sabi nga, "mahirap makapasok, mas mahirap makalabas". Please, help me decide huhu

Advice for breaking into lecturer/ instructor roles for teaching undergrad

Hello! Sa mga working na sa academe kahit part time, may advice ba kayo for how to get into these roles? What sites did you use to find job postings, and what was the process like for you applying for these jobs (interview, may teaching demo ba, resume, qualifications, etc?)

Currently still an MA student, but would love to try to get some teaching experience, kahit part-time sa isang uni.

Any advice or sharings on your experiences or insights are appreciated! Salamat!

When to Quit?

I'm just in my 1st year for Master's & I feel like I'm not competitive enough. I wanted to teach din sana sa college, but I don't remember what I studied during undergraduate anymore! I don't see any job possibilities din in the university I'm currently in. Any advice if I should quit, or persist? While this may be symptoms of "imposter syndrome", I'm pressed by time din kasi, so I need to decide asap. I'm hoping to graduate next year, so I'm scared I'll be unemployed with no clear career plan. Hoping for your kind advice. Tyia!

Officially enrolled today🥳

After waiting for so long, officially enrolled na rin today at AGSB 🤍
Honestly, I’m really excited for this new chapter in my life, but at the same time medyo kinakabahan din. For those who took or are currently taking their MBA, any tips, advice, or pep talks you can share? Would really appreciate some encouragement as I start this journey. 🥹

Planning to take Grad Studies while I still CAN.

to anyone who reads,

I would like to ask for recommendations as to where can I take up graduate studies that quite convenient today. I graduated in BS Arch. and I plan to continue on that path with any major I can be in.

Well, in what way it will be convenient you may ask? A few things: (1) are there full online options? - what university offers this? - because as someone who's working, this is important as my options of a f2f situation might not be advisable for me.

(2) If there are no more full online options which universities, offer hybrid classes? - still location is an important factor to determine how frequently I'll have to use leave credits or ask for favors for me not to use my leave credits.

(3) Universities that are not too pricy. I know that the first two notes might not be aligned with this part however, its nice to know all options available.

(4) Not so important but would be helpful, which universities are best for my niche besides Mapua and UST.

I would appreciate to know your opinions on these guys. Any information will be a great help for me to decide.

Peace out ! Keep on growing ☝️

online grad school

hello! so i had a batch-mate na DepEd Teacher na ngayon. And ngayon inaaya kami if gusto na namin mag enrol din sa full online master’s but our other friend and i refused due to financial constraints kasi less than 20k daw every sem. and at the same time mejo skeptical din ako if diploma mill itong Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation. tempting since leverage rin sana namin ng isa kong batchmate na tumanggi due to aforementioned reasons.

UP MBA vs. Mapua Online MBA

Gusto ko mag UP MBA pero ang layo kasi nasa BGC. Bulacan ako nagwework. Other option ko is MAPUA MBA dahil lang purely online sya. Gusto ko lang magmaster’s kasi feeling ko kulang yung Bachelor’s degree ko as someone na may 10 years of work experience. Ano sa tingin nyo? Sapat na ba ang Mapua MBA for my purpose? TYIA

Is it standard for a thesis advisor to demand co-authorship if they did not contribute to the paper? (Ph Grad School)

Hi everyone, especially those in academia.

Need some honest perspective because ang bigat talaga sa loob. I just finished my Master’s thesis and I’m publishing it online, but my advisor suddenly instructed me to be the one to tell our Dean to include her name as a co-author. The reality is that she had zero intellectual input, gave absolutely no help or solutions when I hit roadblocks, and never even checked up on me during long, stressful silences. Her only contribution was proofreading some parts of the paper, yet I am the one carrying the entire intellectual weight and paying for the heavy publication fees through my tuition.

Now, she wants me to do the talking to the Dean, which feels like she is making me authorize it so she doesn't look bad. Is this really the standard in Ph grad schools, and does basic proofreading actually warrant authorship ethically? I want to respect her, but I’m terrified of getting power-tripped if I refuse, yet giving in feels like my hard work and sleepless nights are being stolen. How do I navigate this without risking my graduation?

Edit: Publication fee is included in our tuition which costs a lot.

Salamat po.

external scholarships for psychology graduate students

hello! just wondering if you know of scholarships that offer support based, but not necessarily, on the academic merits and background i have below.

currently in my first year MA, i (under)graduated in the top 3% of my batch, topped my board exam in psychometrician, and have industry experience in educational consultancy (e.g., we prepare students of various levels to ace their admissions interviews, do editorial reviews for their application materials, and many more) and in teaching college students. i also do comprehensive survey questionnaire validation (not rating) as my private practice.

i define external scholarships as those that are not linked to any educational institution but ones that fund students with or without return of service. more ofen than not, these are non-profits or corporate entities with mandated social responsibilities.

my tuition fee is manageable (500 per unit), but i’m hoping to use the scholarships to fund my personal mini research projects and small outreach programs in underserved communities.

SUCs

Hello,

Not grad school-related, pero meron ba dito na employed sa State Universities and Colleges as faculty pero di pa complete yung master's degree?

I know na depende to sa city pero ano yung usual load and salary?

  • Part-time load, full-time load, and part-time with full-time load.

Planning kasi ako to apply, kasi aligned sa master's ko yung available position.

Teaching na den ako, but in a private college, tas part-timer den as an industry expert. Bale yung position ko is as a consultant/special lecturer.

Salamat po!

UPDATE: Na-interview na ako, and I think masaya naman sila. Most of the questions ay sa classroom at student management, research, and all. I informed them of my research interest, and very interested den ako don kasi I posted last time here sa group na to about my paper being a candidate for publication. Voter den ako sa city where the SUC is located. They advised me that I will receive an email either mag-psych test daw ako or demo na. They verbally informed me that they will not force me to resign from anything if I get accepted. I think very positive naman yung naging impression ko during the panel interview.

DGAT Online Setup

Hi! I’m planning to pursue my master’s degree at De La Salle University Manila and understand that I’ll need to take the DGAT as part of the admission process. Since I’m currently staying in the province, I would prefer to take the exam online if possible.

May I ask how the online DGAT setup usually works? For example, is it conducted through a specific exam link or platform, and does it require an open camera or live proctoring during the test?

I would really appreciate any information or advice regarding the online examination process. Thank you very much!

Influence me on taking MBA please. DLSU or Miriam?

I want to have another degree kasi feel ko wala na ako matunguhan in life kundi ang 9-5 job ko wfh ako so medyo madami akong time, gumagana utak ko sa work pero minsan autopilot na rin. Gusto ko pa mag gain ng more knowledge. I’m 27 now, I feel so old..yet so young pero parang huli na ako in life.

My mom is willing to pay for my grad school, she’s been pushing me dati pa pero ayoko lang masayang pera niya pero naisip ko leap of faith nalang din. Sabi naman niya kahit units lang eh. Pero since working na ako, I’m thinking of grabbing that opportunity and half nalang siguro kami sa pagbabayad? Tska ito pa, tbh natatakot ako sa mga profs profs huhu.

Please be nice to me peeps. 🥲🙏🏻

Miriam - quality education and, mas mura daw compared sa DLSU pero taga South ako. At okay din yung ibang track nila.

DLSU - mas malapit and syempre gusto ko rin matry ang big school at big 4 kasi from an all girls school ako eh. Mas mahal but pag commute dito sa amin may train station na. Ito po ba how much per sem if ever?

Also, gusto ko po ng face to face. I tried online pero wala talaga. Okay lang din if hybrid
