Making friends as a young adult?
Hello, I am a 27M who will be moving to GJ in the next few months. I have been before but don’t know anyone.
Looking for advice on things to do to find likeminded (I am outdoorsy + bi + left wing) friends. I am big into road and mountain bikes and already planning on joining the COPMOBA trail dig days to meet people.
I’ve heard Good Judy’s is the LGBT bar in town. Not a big partier but will go there too.
Edit thanks for the recommendations!!
Advice for an interstate move to GJ?
Hi, ya'll of the sub, I am starting to plan a move from Oklahoma to Grand Junction (possibly permanently, at the very least for a few years) and I wanna know how hard it might be to get a job due to me being relatively young (24) and mostly having worked food / service jobs before now (I work at a hospital currently). I .. also have no car at the moment.
I aim at the earliest for mid-November but if I have to endure Oklahoma longer to avoid the holiday traffic and whatnot, December or January. But I am in the midst of trying to plan this out finanically so I have at least some amount of savings for this.
How's it looking in GJ?
I'm waiting to hear back about an apprenticeship in GJ and would be moving from Las Vegas. The first year I'd be by myself until my family joins me next year. Looking for a place hasn't been too hard considering 1bd rooms/studios are about $1k which is a little surprising for a small city but it is what it is. I looked at the crime map and it looks like it's mainly assault and drug crimes so I'm not too worried since I live in Vegas now and that's everywhere and then some. What are areas I should stay away from?
I also have been seeing people say they hate it in GJ, tons of roaches everywhere and high food prices. I expect to be busy with school and work most of the time and will probably be tired the rest of the time but I have to check out the town and see if it's good for my family to move here in the future. I don't drink anymore and quit smoking weed for the apprenticeship so I'm totally sober.
What's GJ been like these days and what should I expect as far as people, places to see, places to eat and good areas to live? I like to snowboard, do photography, going to the shooting range and just got into archery.
I'm born and raised in Chicago, I saw there's a lot of people from Chicago and the areas around it, where do you guys hang out?
I'm open to living in Fruita, Palisade, Redlands and I've found one place in Mack but a little worried about being stuck in traffic or standstill from an accident.
Hey yall!
Looking for anyone instrested in playing tabletops I need anywhere from 1 to 4 players to meet me at bored fox games if your interested lemme know I'd love to set up a game with yall :)
City Market New Chili Find... Nope.
I had to check the expiration date based on the smell.
It is not thick. Possibly it was meant for a dip?
No idea.
The mop bucket in Satans kitchen MAY taste better.
Looking for a home base, would love any feedback or advice
I currently work on cruise ships and am saving up to buy a home base for myself. I lived in Colorado Springs for 4 years and find myself missing Colorado very much, but I'm not sure i want to live directly on the front range anymore. I have been looking at properties online in more rural Colorado and on the western slope, and grand junction looks so nice.
What is it like living there? Would you recommend it for someone who has to travel for work for stretches at a time? Are there other towns in Colorado you would recommend?
Thanks for reading :)
I have a 1996 Jamboree motor home that needs work. Free to good home! Seriously. All paperwork included.
Low mileage, good engine (Ford motor). Needs new roof, shower fixed, etc. Not running right now. If you're handy, it could be yours for free!!! You haul. I want it GONE!!!
UPDATE: Still available. Coordinating with my husband to schedule showing. I'm not interested in it becoming another drug hangout, trafficking/sex den, or eyesore by the Bookcliffs, thx. Family project was more my thought.
Doggie door installation services in town?
Trying to avoid Lowe's and home Depot if I can avoid it. Just need to replace a door with a door that has a doggie door built in (current door has glass and I don't want to put a hole in the house)
Thanks!
Best place to get glasses for a newbie with a rather complicated prescription
I'm needing some glasses for the first time and apparently my prescription is significantly complicated that Walmart (the only place in Montrose in network for me) can't help me. My other in network options are the following most of which are in Junction. Can anyone recommend one of these in particular with a wide selection of frames, can handle more complicated prescriptions, and good for newbies who know nothing?
The Optical Center
Valley Vision (both locations)
Michael Klaich and Paul Foutz
Eyemart Express
Western Rockies Eye Center
Pearle Vision
Morris Optical
Tattoo shop recommendations
Hey all, in need of help and advice.
Our family dog just passed and my mother wants to get a silhouette of her. I dont live in grand junction but she asked if I could help find her a good reputable shop. Shes worried about the artist being bored or feeling disrespected by asking for such a simple design. I told her not to worry but I do understand where she’s coming from. My mom’s a real cool lady, and wouldn’t be scared off if the shop is grungy. I just want to find a place that will be nice to her, this is a big loss to the family.
Any recommendations are much appreciated.
Thank you all!
Flock cameras?
TLDR: is think they're bad but I want to hear what the rest of us think too.
What's everyone thoughts on this?
Personally I think its mass surveillance. They're all over town and it will probably get worse.
Other towns have begun removing them to public backlash.
"But they help catch speeders?
Why do i still get amber alerts and why do people still go missing? Why are they're flock cameras in children's parks?
Too many questions for something that wasn't taken up for a vote and not explained well to the local population.
Also they use AI, sooner or later they'll want to put up a data center here too, they won't care about what we vote for. Look at what happened in Utah
But that's just my opinion, all opinions are welcomed but remember to be respectful.
Best places in town for a first date?
Going on a date soon with someone special. Her and I are in our lates 20s. I was hoping someone would know any nice places I could take her? I don't know the town well. Not necessarily a dinner date but maybe some fun activities as well. I dont think i wanna go to the fanciest place in town as that might be overkill. Or maybe I do? I was in a long relationship before so I haven't been on a first date in years. Hoping to get some ideas. Maybe give some examples of good first dates that you've been on. Any advice or ideas would be immensely appreciated. Thanks! 😄
Red lights
Witnessed multiple people running red lights today right in view of grand junction police. wtf, do something please.
Amtrak Stopover Ideas - No Car
Hi! I'm thinking of stopping for 2 nights in Grand Junction, as I take the Zephyr from California to Chicago. Will it be feasibly to get out to hikes without a car here?
Got Moths?
Is it just me or does anyone else have an infestation of moths? Some how they are getting in the house. They are driving me nuts.
Cheap clinic?
I have no insurance and have a suspected sinus infection and ear infection I want to get checked.
I would preferably would want to keep costs below $200 but mainly just want to avoid surprise charges.
Live Map of Western Slope Food Trucks
I wanted to share a free community tool I just finished building.
If you're ever trying to figure out what food trucks are actually open today (and where they are parked), I put together a live map that tracks their schedules in real-time. No more guessing or scrolling through old social media posts.
🌮 Food Trucks Map: https://foodtrucks.westernslope.digital/
Also, since it's the season for local produce, I built a sister site that maps out all the local farmstands across the Western Slope so you can easily find fresh veggies, bread, eggs, and more.
🌽 Farmstands Map: https://farmstands.westernslope.digital/
If you run a food truck or farmstand (or know someone who does), tell them to add themselves! It's totally free to join. Hopefully, this makes it a little easier to support our awesome local vendors.
Grand Mesa Conditions?
Has anyone been up to the Grand Mesa recently? What are the conditions like on the trails? Still a good amount of snow?
