20Lbs of Pork Butt

Beautiful weekend in NJ and my wife has a pot luck, so I decided to do pulled pork (one for her event and one for us at home.). Costco dual pack of pork butts weighing in at just under 20lbs….

Smoker: Green Mountain Lodge
Pellets: Lumberjack Competition Blend
Binder: Yellow mustard
Rub: Bone Suckin’ Rub
Temp: 250
Start time 10am
Wrap time: 6pm
Wrap temp: 165 (remote probe for ballpark then thermapen for accuracy.
Wrapped in double foil with 2tbs cider vinegar and half a stick of butter each
Into the 250 preheated oven inside at 6:15pm
Temp of 203-205 hit at 8pm
Removed from oven and rested 1.5 hours before pulling.
Added a sauce of 1 cup cider vinegar, 1 tbs franks red hot, tbs black pepper. Half tbs salt. (Each butt)

So moist and delicious. Wife and I ate a couple of sliders with pickle chips before refrigerating and calling it a night.

Great way to spend a Saturday!

Fireboard + GMG Jim Bowie Choice

takes some simple rewiring / splicing (I opted to remove the Molex connectors from the FB harness and swap for a 4x2 connector - latch is one wrong side, but friction fit is fine).

note, the old style choice has AC components. Which is why this works.

Replaced my Trek’s combustion fan 💨

I noticed that the fan mode wasn’t working so I checked underneath and the fan was twitching. So I found a replacement fan on Amazon and replaced it myself and everything worked perfectly after that. I was bummed out because this grill was my older brother’s who was a chef that passed away in 2024 so fixing this felt like a big pat on the back 😆🙌🏽

Help with auger issues and trouble shooting

Hey there! I inherited this Daniel Boone Green Mountain grill from my dad about 6 years ago when I bought my house. I’m guessing it’s at the very least 10 years old but just had some auger issues and was looking for help with how to trouble shoot next.

The issues started when my pellet starter went out, so I replaced it. However now when I fire it up the auger stops running when it hits 3 and I hear the fan kick on to get the pellets going. However after that the auger never starts feeding the pellets into the pot again since the initial start. I’m starting to wonder if it is a wiring issue but have no idea what to check next. I did empty out the hopper (by hand since I don’t have the nifty slot to dump it out) to make sure there were no jams and even watched the auger turning.

Any help and suggestions are appreciated because I’m out in the middle of nowhere and would rather not have to load the thing up and drive 1.5 hours to take it to a shop to be worked on.

I have a Daniel Boone and the auger motor stopped working so I bought a replacement. It came with the “t pin” separate and I am at a loss as to how to get it to stay in the hole. I’ve tried to screw it in but there are no threads in the hole. Am I supposed to bang it in with a hammer? Does anyone know how to do this? Of course I’ve gotten zero help from gmg on their website.
