Can someone break down the difference between HHC and UKHC?

I was at EDC 2026 which had a dedicated happy hardcore stage and heard a fair amount of both but am confused where the border lies. My current perception is HHC has a distinctly older kick with a rubber band sound with more piano sections while UKHC has a more modern bouncy kick.

TBH I like the UKHC sound the most but what confuses me is that S3RL for instance calls his music HHC while to me the kicks are clearly much more UKHC.

The point of this post is mostly just to identify what what I like is called so I can find more :P.

First track

Been dabbling in production for many years but never properly completed a track. This is my first happy hardcore track I’m reasonably chuffed with. Was aiming to make something that could’ve featured on one of the early hardcore heaven or bonkers albums.

Mixing and mastering are still a bit of a mystery to me but it sounds good on my headphones and in my car.

Who enjoys a bit of scratching?

Despite being an MC, I've always dabbled on the decks as well, and dedicated a lot of time into trying to learn to scratch. As you can hear it's all just pretty basic patterns and nothing crazy or fancy. I don't know the technical name for it, but the pattern used a lot by Chris unknown is the one I've found the hardest to do, I call it the 1.5 time pattern, it's the one at 19 seconds, 2 minutes 26 and right at the end.

This was fun to write... and not fun to mix. I hate mixing.

A slightly more "modern" track than I would usually make. Tried out some new techniques looking for a wider mix. Not totally happy with the result but sometimes you've just got to call it a day and preserve your mental health.

Artists/time periods that used pitched-up vocals

i've heard that pitched-up/chipmunk/nightcore vocals were once common, but this hasn't been the case for me i think because i browse relatively newer selections. where are they?

thank you for the suggestions. i've also taken to key shifting ukhc tracks on the fly in an app when i know would sound good nightcored

Trying to recall this song

It first started with lyrics that went something like "you were looking for the mirror (forgot some of it) you were looking for the passion (forgotten lyrics) tonight" and then the instrumental started, it was a female singing in something like a somber yet still upbeat melody

I think it came out in 1995, but it could be later, doubt it was earlier

The most likely nation of origin is either the UK or Spain

This channel might've uploaded it around early 2011, with an image of something like this

There were multiple uploads of it as far back as 2019 if I recall

So if things rings a bell for anyone, do let me know :]
