Any farms or Mennonite stores I can buy fresh baked sourdough bread or pastries ?
Hi guys, I’m 23 female and I don’t have any money right now and I am desperate to find things to do. I have POTs so the heat is getting to me pretty intensely so going to the park is kind of off the list of things for me to do. I also don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t do anything in the “party” scene as well. Do you guys know any free things to do around here?
Thank you
I have mostly lived in backwater areas my entire life and I’ve been living here for a year but unfortunately, running isn’t as fun anymore since I have been having to run though Walmart parking lot hell. Additionally, sometimes waiting at lights for five different lanes is draining as hell. Does anyone have a good running path mapped out?
Interview I did with Mikey Reisenberg on building Mashita where we talk about chasing dreams, the realities of running a restaurant, and why building something meaningful matters more than chasing a dollar. Lot of discussion and disagreements in the comments on this one. Honestly not sure how I feel. I've been on both ends of working as a server for years and also managing. Any advice for future interviews?
I urge you all to ask yourselves, why has Ben cline voted to cut veterans benefits several times. Most importantly for everyone, what has Ben cline actually done for you?
Hi. I am moving to the area in July. I am selling my house and renting there. I am looking now. I have 2 chi less than 15 pounds combined that are potty trained and sleep all day .. except when I’m home …they are so Velcro dogs. I have anxiety and depression and would seriously be lost without them. But getting an ESA certification seems extreme so fine I’ll pay the 500 dollar deposit but 50 a month as well that is non refundable is also extreme and is a straight up money grab imo.
it is no wonder that so many pets go to shelters.. the pet rent and the high cost of rental.. who can afford it—-
so hopefully someone here can help me find a reasonable house to rent.. I have no issues with a deposit that is smart business but paying pet rent as well! Should be illegal!
thank you for letting me vent— and hopefully some help finding a good rental agency or what not :)
I’ve been looking into indoor climbing in Harrisonburg, and there isn’t a public dedicated climbing gym here. The closest full gym option is in Charlottesville, which makes regular climbing difficult without driving an hour each way.
From what I’ve seen, past discussions about a private climbing gym in town tend to conclude it probably wouldn’t be profitable at current demand levels (or something about insurance costs). That made me wonder if a public recreation model would make more sense.
The city already has some recreation facilities that aren’t run for profit, like the golf course. A smaller climbing space like a simple indoor bouldering area attached to an existing rec center like Westover could be a more realistic scale than a full commercial gym.
Even a basic setup would lower the barrier for students and residents who don’t have the time or transportation to go out of town regularly. I’m curious if there’s enough interest to bring this up to Parks and Rec or start a petition to see if it’s worth exploring.
I have some friends who have unexpectedly become unhoused. I can't comfortably take them in, but I'm trying to get them closer to where I am (they're currently in Virginia Beach). They have no car and currently working on getting their VA driver's licenses (current state expired) so they'd need to be within walking distance to a couple places they could find work (both currently with at gas stations -- one at Wawa who can transfer to any other location so that would be the priority).
Does anyone have recommendation of where they might be able to get a cheap roof over their heads for a few months while they try to get back on their feet? (Again, two adults, 9 y/o, and a French bulldog). Any resources they could look into?
Thank you!!
Is the Virginia breeze discontinuing the service to Dulles? They cancelled my ticket saying the bus is cancelled after 5/31, but other stops are showing up as available...
Anyone know where you can buy a Tri-tip beef roast?
Not as easy to find this cut on the East coast.
I’m a local software developer and I’ve been quietly building a little web app called GoBeThere.app.
The idea is simple: share your informal plans to be at a real-life place and see other people’s plans so you can choose to “be there” together — without events, group chats, RSVPs, or complicated setup.
It’s in early rollout right now, and I’d love a few real humans to kick the tires and tell me honestly what they think before I push it wider. I thought I’d start with my local subreddit.
I’ve added a few public hangout spots I know around the Valley already, and anyone can add more. Thanks for taking a look.
Hey everyone! With JMU graduation this weekend, I figured I’d make a post and see if anyone might be able to help us out.
If any students are moving out and looking to get rid of a clean twin XL or twin mattress, I would gladly take it off your hands for my toddler. We’re also looking for any gently used neutral-colored bedsheets that would fit as well.
I know a lot of people end up needing to downsize quickly after graduation, so I thought it was worth asking before things get tossed or hauled away.
Thank you so much, and congratulations to all the graduates this weekend! 🎓
Any advise, is this place worth the time or not ? Any suggestions DM me.
Saw they posted that they will be closing in June. What does the music scene in Harrisonburg need to survive??
Hi there… Looking for a quiet place where I can work in Harrisonburg and maybe even take a call/do a zoom. Thinking of low-key coffee shops were me talking to my computer wouldn't be terrible. Any ideas?
Obviously I can buy just about anything at local nurseries, Lowes/Home Depot/Costco, some local grocery stores, etc. but i’m curious if anyone is aware of a farm or vendor who sells at a lower price point that what I could find at a “store.”
I am starting a veggie garden and trying to NOT join the millions of us who invest $800 into a garden and harvest 17 tomatoes, 46 beans, and 3 peppers.
TIA!
I’ve heard a lot of them are on strike, seems like they’re struggling at the restaurant, what’s going on?
