Channel 7.1 not visible anymore in Miami.

It worked until a couple of days ago now I get an error saying “unable to play channel: no video data”.

Anybody came across this? Have Fox started encrypting their channel?

PS I have a HDHomeRun Flex Duo 2 x ATSC Tuners - HDFX-2US device and a mohu leaf antenna if this is relevant

Error invoking setpositionAsync

Latest firmware. Latest version of hdhomerun app.

Nvidia shield. Up to date with firmware.

Changing to a channel.

Edit: had to exit out of app in order to do anything. Froze the app right out at that screen.

Completely Unwatchable

Finding that my HDHome run is completely unwatchable. Stuttering or basically to not working. Spent a lot of money on this device and really really dissatisfied with it.

Is there anything I can do to improve it or is this it?

I'm having to stream live tv instead of watching a cleaner OTA live show.

All hardwired Ethernet using Apple TV and dedicated app. Tried on Plex but that's just not even working at all.

Any tips?

Edits:

Status of the HDHomeRun and have the following:
- Signal Strength - 100%
- Signal Qaulity - 79%

Apple TV connected via Ethernet

I was just watching on my iPhone and it does seem to be better on there, so maybe is the App on the Apple TV.

Worth getting the 4K vs settling for the Quatro

Subject TL;DR.

Been revisiting buying another HDHR tuner to primarily use with my Plex server. I do have a Prime that I had used for ClearQAM duties when my cable provider still offered that but it has since been decommissioned as that is no longer available to me so have been looking at going back to OTA.

I understand the issues currently surrounding the 4K/ATSC 3 model and the shenanigans going on with the industry as a whole. I live in the greater Columbus, Ohio metro and we have the one lighthouse transmitter covering our big networks. Now I thought based on the data on rabbitears.info that at one point it showed as encrypted but it is now showing as being open which is good! But given encryption still remains on the table makes me wary going into the future.

So I'm trying to get a feel from others if I should consider looking at a 4K model and gain the benefits for as long as the broadcasters here play nice but also have the ATSC 1.0 fallback or skip and go for the Quatro. The price difference doesn't seem drastic enough to make it a deal breaker either way.

Side note: I know the whole deal with ATSC 3.0 and the ac4 audio not playing nice with many devices including Plex and its clients. I'm aware of a tool out there on Github that essentially proxies the HDHR and uses the Emby version of ffmpeg to transcode to ac3 in real time. No personal experience with it but I figure if it does what it claims, I'd be totally ok with it. Not worried about the extra lossy transcode step on the audio side for OTA stuff.

Roku app update introduced a bunch of bugs.

The app ran on my Roku express and TV just fine until recently. It never handled low signal well and if it had to retune to a channel more than once it would freeze. I could live with that. Now, since about a week ago, both the express and TV exhibit these issues.

Will begin to tune into a channel and the bar will stop part way and freeze needing to restart the app and try again. These are channels with strong signal strength that I watch frequently. It never did that before, used to tune in fine consistently.

The bar will make it all the way across and then bring up a blank screen. I have to go back to the guide and try again. This is also with strong channels that I watch frequently.

When watching a favorite channel, going back to the guide used to drop you into your favorite channels. Now it drops you in the middle of the guide and you have to scroll back to your favorite channels.

Channel guide used to always be populated. Now it says no data and then fills in, so you have to hesitate on each page waiting for it to fill in the data. I had never seen this issue before the last update.

I've had to do this a lot in the last week. Sometimes trying 2 or 3 times before it will finally tune into the channel without freezing or giving me a blank screen, sometimes it works the first time, maybe 50%. This is on 2 different devices and it started at the same time.

I still love the hardware and what it does, I just wish the software would behave. I don't watch TV too much, that's why I dropped cable and put up an antenna to begin with, so I use the PC or phone apps rarely. Not sure about those, I will test them today.

Not sure which HDHomeRun to buy

I'm looking to buy a HDHomeRun, but looking on their website, I can't seem to find what i'm looking for. Hoping you guys have an idea.

  1. I don't need a DVR, I don't want to record local channels. I just want the ability to watch local stations.

  2. I don't care if it's 4k or not. I have one 4k television out of 4. So 1080p will fit me just fine.

  3. I don't care if it's an newer or older model. As long as it has at least 2 tuners that can watch 2 separate streams at once.

New Firmware 20260313, almost no channels?

Hi, I have 2 x HDHR4-2US units that I recently updated FW to v20260313.

Now I barely get 1 channel, before I was getting around 6.

Has anyone had an issue after updating to this FW?

TY

Can you guys please re-update 14.5

For some reason, 14.5 in the Green Bay Area went back to the default TV guide, and that is incorrect because it is no longer the DABL Channel. It's been the Quest TV network for a couple of months now. Can you please put the Quest TV Guide back on that channel so it shows the correct information? I would greatly appreciate it if you could update that for the Green Bay, Wisconsin viewer. I don't know why it updated by itself.

Review of alternative apps Apple TV and Android TV

I would like to edit this post and say the hd Homerun app is great and will work for almost anyone just my abnormal situations and signals have some issues with the app. Most people won’t.

I’ve been trying so many alternative apps on Android and Apple to find the perfect experience and I have found the two perfect ones for each device.

Apple: Multiview Sports it allows you to watch up to 4 channels at once and allows you to channel surf. It also pulls the limited guide from HD Homerun. If you have very weak signals or receive interference from EMF and your channels pixelate here and there but are still watchable this app does not try to encode audio that it shouldn’t. A lot of apps try to encode bad audio which can cause ear piercing high pitches while you are watching TV. This app is perfect for Apple devices.

Android TV: Google Channels this is a very old app that was discontinued by Google in 2022 with no updates since. It is still available to download and works flawlessly with hd Homerun even better than multiview. This app allows you to channel change as quick as a cable box it shows you what channel you are watching with guide data and also can surprisingly decode very weak audio while other apps can’t. The picture may freeze or pixelate with a weak signal but this app regularly can play the audio still while other apps can’t. This app also does not try to decode bad audio with high pitches.

Apple TV best app: Multiview Sports

Android TV: Google Channel app

If you need more advanced features then Kodi or Channels DVR app may be for you but be warned that these apps try to decode bad audio and may not know how to handle weak signal pictures appropriately. Since HD Homerun is for OTA signals it is common to receive weak signals or bad audio so it’s in your best interest to be able to handle those situations the best as possible.

DVR Watch In-Progress Recording From Start?

This should be easy to do, but I guess I'm missing something. When a recording is in-progress, but I want to watch it from the start, how do I do that? Don't see an option from the main menu (the only thing I can do is click the in-progress recording to go to the live feed). And to make things worse, I can't seem to get it to scrub to the start either.

ATSC 3.0 Channels Look Washed Out on Apple TV

I’ve looked through some similar threads but couldn’t find a solution.

I have a new Apple TV 4K (3rd Gen) and a Panasonic Z95A TV which runs Fire TV. When I set up the Apple TV, it asks if I want Dolby Vision which I chose yes. I opened HDHR and went to my local 3.0 fox station and it was super washed out. The funny thing is that the regular station (ATSC 2.0) looks like what the ATSC 3.0 channel looks like on the native OTA app on the TV.

I have tried to change the settings to regular SDR, and that didn’t work. I also tried fiddling around with the range and frame rate match and no combination of that changed anything. I also tried to change the picture settings on the TV but that didn’t seem to do anything.

I believe I’m on the latest update with everything.

Open to suggestions. Thank you for the help.

Does not work with 2026 Amazon Firestick

Since the 2026 firesticks are on Vega instead of Android, you cannot use the HD Homerun App to watch live television. If you use another method to watch TV (through Plex, for example), that will still work. Just a friendly warning with Prime day upon us.

Finding the HDHomerun across VLANs

Hello all - has anyone had success accessing the HDHomerun device across VLANs?

For example, our "trusted" devices live on VLAN #1 but the HDHomerun lives on VLAN #2. If I connect a device to VLAN #2, the app can find the device just fine - but it doesn't seem to be aware enough to broadcast across the VLANs. All ports are open so I don't think this is a firewall issue.

I'm curious if anyone has found a way to forward VLAN #1 traffic to VLAN #2 - and more specifically, find the HDHomerun device on the second VLAN.

Thanks - appreciate any tips or suggestions that could be shared.

Local Channel 2.2 should be StartTV, but WCBTV comes in instead, Los Angeles area

My television's tuner still gets 2.2 as StartTV, but my Flex 4K is bringing it in as WCBTV. I am in the Los Angeles area. Searching for this issue online, it seems people who use Xfinity Cable have the same issue, an Asian language program plays instead of what is on the guide. So, I figured the "signals are crossed," so if I rescan the same will come-up until Silicon Dust can determine the cause.

Thank you for your help with this, SD.

UPDATE: Silicon Dust corrected it. A new scan after they asked me to put the channel back.

Apps for Apple TV and Android tv that allow channel changing with hd Homerun.

I’m looking for apps for Apple TV and Android boxes that allow traditional channel changing. I’ve tried multivew and the app doesn’t work very well for me on some channels it lags and has tons of app issues on Apple TV. On Android the app doesn’t allow channel changing in vlc mode. Channels for HDHomeRun can not handle weak channels sound. The channels app makes horrible noises if your signal is weak and drops out.

I’m just looking for some alternative apps that I may not know about to see if I can try them out and see if they will work for me.

Apple TV HDHomeRun App - Favorite Channels

I have a couple of Apple TV 4K boxes and installed the HDHomeRun app on them. I get to the guide and I do not see the favorite channels. I see them when I use a Roku or Google TV but not with the Apple TV. I see favorite channels on my iPad app. Is this an issue with Apple TV app only?
