+ addressing the hate

i started the show shipping yueer and xilun cuz their interaction was just straight out of a drama, tho xilun was hesitant at approaching yueer i was surprised to find myself liking hewen with yueer more, he seemed really charismatic, confident, casual and extroverted, i expected him to become really popular among the ladies (and i was right), his chemistry with yueer was insane but leaving this aside, if i had met a guy like hewen in real life i wud be soo intimidated by him at the beginning (+ he seems like a heartbreaker T-T) but as i kept watching him, i was starting to adore him alot, he is very considerate and kind and has a contrasting childish immature side AND HES SO CUTE LOL.

a scene that touched me alot was when all the casts moved to signal house and there were soo many guys into yueer (one of them being hewen) they all rushed to help her and stuff so it was very awkward for the other female casts but hewen handled it soo well, when all the guys went to go give yueer a tour hewen stayed down with the other female casts occasionally dropping random jokes and when all the guys were in tht library room with yueer, hewen stayed with the other female members and made up convo with them, hes such a green flag. however hewen is not perfect and has his own flaw that being overly concerned for other people i think his past experiences has made him this way and i can relate to him alot, during my middle school years i used to feel left out even within my friend group and tried really hard to grab their attention by trying to be funny and at times i made myself a fool but i still desperately wanted close friends and a friend who would always choose to spend time with me, so looking at hewen i remember my past but all i wish is for hewen to be himself and not try to please others, when he feels happy or sad he shd openly express it and be more confident in himself, i truly wish for him to find happiness and a partner who gives him emotional support and always looks out for him, may they have a mutual lovely relationship.

next i want to also talk about xiaoyu and mengmeng these two are such amazing people i truly admire them, they are brave (+xingxing) its a bit disappointing tht they cud not find a perfect partner here but all ik is these two are truly admirable and lovely, they will surely find a good partner that loves them alot. also their friendship is sooo cute (+xingxing) they uplift and look out for eachother, they are optimistic and are confident in their own self.

I LOVE THE FAMILY OF FOUR, bohan being a silly golden retriever and xing being calm and cool im so happy bohan found a partner like xing , he truly lucked out lol. may their relationship last for eternity. and siyi cp is soo damnnn cuteee aghhh i keep getting cuteness aggression, they have this highschool puppy love kind of vibe meanwhile xinghan cp has this old school 90s married couple vibe, i hope this family of four actually end up being a family and they all get married lol(cant wait for their marriage).

fang and yang are already married imo, their such mature people and they have this city love kind of vibe, i think they are literally soulmates and are meant for achother, cant wait for their marriage asw.

sunshine kaiyi and lover boy yiheng are soo cute, im convinced yiheng knows nothing other than art and kaiyi lol, they have this campus couple kind of vibe and their relationship is refreshing and optimistic, i love themmm.

now i wanna talk abt the hate yueer, xilun and hewen are facing, many fans are calling hewen "ugly" and using mean words, i think he is such a kind, sweet and good looking guy, he handled the situation really well, i do think he cud have put more effort towards the end but seeing him so unlike himself was disheartening, he tried his best and hence he has no regrets.

as for xilun, i do think some (maybe most) of his actions were displeasing and straight up annoying, he needs to be more mindful of others but again i do think he was glued to yueer cuz he wanted to prove himself and all but he needs to give her more space and give yueer the time to react and talk to other people asw, i see people mocking his eye blinking which i absolutely DO NOT SUPPORT, looking at him, he most prolly has a involuntary eye tics due to some neurological response (he might be neurodivergent) and this is smth he cant control hence making fun of this is so rude and sad, if u hate his actions criticize it but dont call out on peoples looks or conditions, he does have a few rumours around him which im not sure is whether true or not so i dont really have any comments for that, i do think he might have lost a bit of his personality and character when hes with yueer mainly because he wanted to turn himself into someone she will like hence losing himself which i think is smth u shd not do in a relationship, hopefully he learns smth from this experience.

as for yueer, some of her actions were understandable and some were highly immature, she cud have handled the situation better, she shd be more open and honest and shd have had proper convo with hewen to resolve her feelings, this way they cud have resolved the misunderstanding earlier. she was quite hypocritical with hewen and shd have shared her worries openly instead of asking him to "guess" it. however i do believe there are some scenes the producers are hiding from us to sell their own narrative, but she surely was shady with hewen anyways, their misunderstanding resolved and she chose xilun as she liked him and thought their more compatible and tht is her own choice, anyways she might have learnt alot from this experience.

lastly i like all the members friendship with eachother is so pure, uplifting and lovely, i hope they keep meeting eachother and stay just as close. i will surely miss HS9.

Just reflecting it does not make sense that a person like Yueer who strongly and openly talks about all her emotions only gave signals to Hewen in the final about her changed emotions. Looking back at past seasons there were material held back that helped understand decisions that were just published weeks later. Tencent milks the show as long as possible and can publish extra material till November and they want people to be invested as long as possible.

With this premise 8.2 becomes even more suspicious to me. In 8.1 Yueer gave a positive signal to Xilun after the beach date. The next say they interact as a group and Hewen is really caring about her and in the evening he want a talk with her. Than we only see 5 minutes of a really long talk that lastet two hours. We can see Yueer less flirty and more serious than ever before, but we are not really shown her sentences. We mostly see Hewens message that Yueer is still his focus and that it never changed.

If we ask ourself, why Hewen see the necessarily to say such things, one possible explanation is that Yueer at least signaled him that at the moment her earlier strong feelings toward him are not there anymore. She does not need to say that her decision is final and she can totally open a small backdoor that they can come back.

After that honest long talk we see her coming back and crying over Xilun's letter that had no real serious content. If you consider her crying in 8.2 in Xilun's arms the tells him she cried because she sees him crying. So in this state Xilun's well-being already is connected to Yueers well-being.

From Hewen's reactions I don't get the feeling, that Yueer's final decision came as a big surprise. He wanted to stay true to his feelings, but did not expect Yueer to choose him. He already could see how Yueer behaved around Xilun the whole time and he showed respect towards both Xilun and Yueer.

So my thesis is that the production chose ambiguous scenes and left the triangle way longer open than the reality. Maybe Yueer was already 80% sure about Xilun, but if you favor her with Hewen you can still see mostly positive moments and can think she is more inclined to Hewen. That does not make her decision final, because she still had strong emotions to Hewen in the beginning and does not want to exclude the possibility of them coming back. She analyzed her emotions constantly trying to rationalize them with psychology and is really guarded. She only wants to enter a relationship when she is really sure.

The setting, dating show, not much sleep, set events, not much alone time to understand your own emotions and analyze them make it even harder for overthinkers.

So, just maybe, the strong critic towards Yueer may be a bit unfair and too extreme and we should wait for every released content, before judging if Yueer behaved unfair?

She was into XL earlier than people thought, she did not have to drag things with HW, thats why im confused

i was on a trip for a few days and now after landing and seeing the discussions for HS9, im shocked like wth happened to heyue cp? i was like 99% sure she wud choose HW i mean it was like so obvious or so i thought but anyways who am i to say this, its her wish and opinion but analyzing everything the sudden shift was crazy its either the producers didnt show some scenes or she thought to herself and decided to be rational instead. based off YE interactions she obv loved HW since she was jealous and happy cuz of him but she felt like being with HW makes her very insecure and she decided to go with for a more stable relationship which xilun provides, she liked both of them but liked HW more(from what i have seen).

but the thing that makes me confused is her saying she only liked HW's courage? during dinner date HW took initiative towards her so she started noticing him but thru their moments tgt she cud have found more reasons to love him considering how much she liked him but ig that was just smth she said cuz she had moved on.. i kind of understand why she chose xilun since she was more open with him and they had a lot more in common + he was veryy "possesive" of her and stuff but i think she could have choosen a direction to go a little early instead of keeping the love triangle open for soo long. i mean how can someone be this indecisive, she hated some of HW's actions for being "indecisive" but says shes indecisive cuz of HW and shes right to be so? considering tht then HW has the right to be indecisive asw since she is indecisive, rather than making HW seem like a bad guy. moreover did she forget abt their stargazing date and all their dates? they even went on a date after everything resolved resolved between them (the badminton date) so its unfair for her to blame on HW when he already explained their misunderstandings.

so in short she shd have just admitted or atleast shd have been open abt her thoughts that even tho HW resolved the misunderstanding she started liking xilun during that time so shes more inclined towards him smth like that, that way she cud have made it less hurtful to HW, theres many ways she cud have solved this situation. feeling sad for HW and xiaoyu asw, maybe a bit for xilun considering he might potentially be her 2nd option but wtv this is their lives, wish them all happiness esp HW

This is purely just an appreciation post to put my thoughts somewhere because I really like Hewen and think he's a great guy. My favourite participant of s8 was Duoduo, and I felt almost attached to her as I watched s8, and I felt the same way watching s9 about Hewen so I think he's my fav participant this season.

I just think he's a great person with a great heart. And he is so considerate. During their first day in the colour rooms he kinda took the lead and kept the conversation going. Same with their first dinner together, he took the initiative in a group of strangers and got the ball rolling, like being the first to stand and start picking each other's cards. If it wasn't for him, it probably would have been slightly more awkward. Of course Kaiyi the female extrovert helped as well.

What really stands out about him is how often he takes the initiative, which is a little contradictive since a lot of people say he's the opposite when it comes to Yue'er, but I'm not even going to go there lol. I remember in the starting days at the cabin/house, he would be so inclusive of everyone and get everyone involved in the group conversations. He looked out for Sisi while she was still very much in her shell and didn't have her sister, and many viewers also noticed that hence their ghost ship lol. During that scene where Yue was in the study and all the guys were crowding her, Hewen was one of the first to break off and join the rest of the women to not leave them alone despite his urge to obviously be near his crush. He took the initiative by being the first person to use the fountain date, and the first man to active both the stargazing & city date. During the theater/simulation experience, he was the first person to volunteer for the compliments activity. There are probably multiple other instances where he steps up first that I don't remember. But all of it shows how natural of a leader he is. He is definitely the 'Class President' of the group because of how he's constantly reading the room, elevating others, making sure everyone feels okay. He has always put others' feelings above his own and steps back for others to do what they want, which obviously has it's downfalls especially in terms of his love life, but it just shows how selfless of a person he is. Something Xiaoyu noticed and praised him for, while Yue'er hated him for.

What prompted this post was watching him in episode 9. His conversation with Xilun and his words were so so kind. Idk, the way he fussed and told him to sit on the bed and just how warm his words are. I also think Xilun spoke greatly in that conversation too. And finally, when the guys all reflected on their HS journey after >!reading Xiaoyu's letter!<. The way Hewen spoke about the others' relationships and how much he admired and rooted for them, pointing out moments of other couples that remained in his heart, just showed how insightful and attentive of a person he is. Just like how he had a little notebook where he wrote little facts about all the participants. That's a person with a genuine caring heart.

I think he, Meng, and Xiaoyu are such lovely people. I find it fitting that Hewen has become the>! sole bachelor !<of the friend group. It just suits him really well, he has that carefree vibe and it suits the natural leader/male MC (Kaiyi is obviously the best female MC) position he has too.

Perhaps a bit of Xiaoyu possessed me as I wrote this lol. It only comes from a place of admiration, I'm not a crazy fan that's in love with him and thinks he can do no wrong. But from what I've seen onscreen, I think he is a person with a wonderful heart & soul and deserves so much kindness and love. He's the type of person I'd love to be friends with or just have in my life. Hope a lot of happiness comes his way.
